Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Jessica and Liv
What: Jessica meets Liv for the first time; Liv is on social media brain
When: September sometime
Where: The city morgue
Rating/Warning: Low/none. There is a dead guy.
Status: Complete

Jessica had been working the missing person’s case for a little over a month now, and still hadn’t come up with any leads. Normally at this point, there was something. But there was no activity on any of his financial accounts, or social media accounts. She’d done everything she could think of, and nothing had turned up. Which meant either this guy, or whoever had him, were really, really good at covering his tracks, or there were no tracks to cover.

She’d taken to visiting the local morgue whenever a report of a John Doe had come in, though this was the first time she’d managed to come in during the day. “Hello, I called about the John Doe,” she said to the medical examiner when she arrived. “Jessica Jones.”

Liv was busy updating her Instagram when Jessica entered the morgue. Because everyone wanted to see pictures of her in a lab coat… in a morgue, right? “Oh-em-gee,” Liv greeted when Jessica announced herself. “Hi! It’s so nice to meet you in person! I’m Liv.” Because she had been the one that talked to Jessica on the phone earlier. “Right, John Doe. Let me get his report for you.”

Jessica had thought that the medical examiner had sounded a little perky on the phone, but she definitely hadn’t expected, well, this. “If you just want to show me the body, that will be fine for now,” Jessica commented. She’d request it if it was the guy, but it wasn’t like Jessica had the time or the inclination to read the ME reports on everyone who wound up dead in these parts. Besides, the quicker she could get away from… well, this, the better.

“Sure!” Liv replied with a smile on her face. “This way,” she added leaning Jessica over to the cold chamber the John Doe was being kept in. However, before she opened the drawer she paused whipping out her cell phone, she took a selfie sending it straight to Instagram. Time to check out a victim!

Jessica stared for a moment, disbelief written on her face. “Are you serious?” she asked, deadpan. She didn’t have time for this. Well, it wasn’t like she had anything that was pressing afterward, but she didn’t want to make time for this. Instead, she moved to pull the drawer open herself.

Liv was so busy posting her photo that she didn’t noticed Jessica opening the drawer until it was actually opened. “Hey!” Liv protested. “That’s my job.” Also no one was supposed to touch the drawers unless they worked there.

“Oh, my bad,” Jessica said, feigning shock. “And here I thought your job was to stand around taking selfies.”

“I wish. You know how much social media influencers make?” Liv replied pulling open the drawer for Jessica. “Here you go. John Doe.”

“I don’t really care,” Jessica responded, but she had a rough idea. She’d been asked once or twice to work cases on them too. Mostly from obsessed fans that Jessica always turned down. She looked at the man and frowned, then pulled out her phone to compare the two faces. It looked as though the guy had been dead for a while, but it looked to be a match. “Shit,” Jessica swore, putting her phone back in her jacket pocket. “How did he die?”

Liv was much more interested in talking about Instagram than the John Doe. But unfortunately that wasn’t her job. “Stab wound to the gut.” It would have taken him awhile for him to bleed out. But he had. No one found him in the alley until about a day after he died. Liv had discovered the body was twenty-thirty hours post mortem.

Jessica frowned to herself. “Well, thanks,” she said, not entirely meaning it given the complete lack of help she’d received from the ME. “When’s you’re shift done? I’ll make sure to send the wife over to ID the body when you’re not here.”
