Who: Kitty and Diana
What: A birthday date
When: September 27th
Where: Fancy restaurant
Warnings: Family friendly
Diana was looking forward to what Kitty had planned this evening. Normally birthdays weren’t that big of a deal for Diana, but that was just a cultural thing. Name Days were more important than birthdays in Greece, and Diana’s Name Day was on the twentieth of October. The phone call with her mother that morning had partly been a birthday wish and partly a ‘I’m coming to visit for your Name Day’ call.
Knowing the dress code, Diana spent a while to get ready, wanting to be perfect. She went for a statement dress and put her hair up. She accented the look with earrings, a necklace and a bracelet. She then waited for Kitty to arrive, curious as to what her girlfriend was going to be wearing.
It was mostly an excuse to go out. Not that they needed one, but Kitty had been wanting to go really fancy for awhile now. It had been too busy for them both, she figured, until now. The timing just worked out really well.
She arrived in a blue wrap around type dress, parking her car and managing to jog on heels to the door. She knocked almost nervously.
It had been busy, but it had also been trying with the state of both of their dream worlds recently. Diana hated having to fight off emotional bleedover from her dream self in relation to Steve Trevor, but she’d managed to finally push most of that aside. Hearing the knock, she went and answered the door, a warm smile on her lips as she saw Kitty.
“You look stunning,” she said warmly.
“Not as stunning as you.” Kitty openly stared at her, then brushed her hair behind her ear shyly. She was having one of those moments she couldn’t believe was real and felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise as she wondered when the shoe would drop.
No. Nope. She wasn’t going to sabotage herself.
“So beautiful. Ready to go?”
“I am,” she responded with a warm smile. Diana grabbed her clutch purse and ensured she had her keys before she stepped outside and closed the door behind her. She held her hand out for Kitty to take.
Kitty took it immediately, trying not to feel desperate for the contact. Or at least look desperate. “Sometimes I feel like I’m dating the goddess you’re named for.”
Diana chuckled, giving Kitty’s hand a squeeze. “Technically, I’m a demigoddess, so you’re half right. Though I’m not certain if that is a bigger compliment to me or to Diana herself.” Or, well, Artemis as she’d be called in Greek mythology.
“Diana could only be jealous of your hotness.” Kitty led Diana to the car, opening the door for her as one ought to do on proper dates. It honestly didn’t matter to Kitty as long as she spent time with DIana, but it was nice to dress up, be girly, and do the whole dating thing. She resolved to make date night a monthly thing at least.
“Let us hope that she does not see fit to smite me for it. After all, she is one of the three goddesses involved in leading to the start of the Trojan War. Well, Athena, at any rate.” Athena being the Greek version of Diana. Because the Romans basically just stole the Greek gods and renamed them.
Diana got in the car and made sure all of her dress was safely inside so it didn’t get caught in the door when Kitty closed it. She was also a fan of just spending time with Kitty, but she also enjoyed dressing up and going out like this.
“You could take her in a fight too,” Kitty pointed out, as if challenging the goddess herself to come down and prove it. She even looked around, but nothing happened.
Winking, Kitty got in as well and started driving. “I hope you’ve got room for dinner and dessert.”
“Let us not tempt fate. I do not wish to begin a repeat of the Trojan War, thank you,” Diana responded bemusedly. Though she did wonder if the gods actually existed here. All of them had more or less been dead in her dreams. Her brother Ares had killed most of them.
“Oh believe me, I brought an appetite fit for the gods,” Diana replied with a suggestive smirk.
“Good. And then after dessert is dessert.” She grinned, wondering if Diana would think she was perving or if Diana might think she had other plans.
To be fair, she did intend to jump Diana’s bones later, but the secret was in the locale.
Dinner turned out to be an upscale Mexican restaurant. “I didn’t think there was any Greek place in town that could compare to your cooking.”
“I look forward to dinner and both desserts,” Diana responded. She hadn’t exactly expected Kitty to jump her bones tonight, but she was certainly open to it. Kitty did make Diana think that she had other plans for after they ate. Which was completely fine with her.
Diana chuckled softly. “Yes, I can be picky when it comes to Greek food. Outside of Greece, I believe the best option would be a small, family-owned restaurant, so long as the family was actually Greek, of course.” She certainly didn’t mind the choice of restaurant.
“I’ll keep an eye out. But tonight, a little bit spice and a little bit nice.” Taking Diana’s hand, Kitty walked into the restaurant with her, more than happy to showcase how lucky a woman she was.
Once they were seated, Kitty picked up the menu. “Good thing I know Spanish.”
“I look forward to the spice and nice,” Diana responded. She gave Kitty’s hand a little squeeze as they walked into the restaurant. Once seated, she started looking over the menu. “That’s certainly a good thing.”
Technically, Diana spoke Spanish fluently. Along with many other languages. A gift from her dreams. However, she didn’t show off such knowledge unless she needed to. So for tonight, she’d let Kitty handle the Spanish.
Kitty was definitely a polyglot, and she definitely liked to show that fact off. She just didn’t have Magic Amazon Language Bullshit like Diana did.
And you could quote her on that.
“How spicey do you want to go?”
Having lived on a peaceful, remote island for thousands of years, it left a lot of time to learn languages. Even though Diana had preferred her lessons from Antiope. She was a warrior through and through, after all.
“I’m feeling spicy tonight.”
“All right, don’t blame me if your mouth catches fire.” Kitty grinned at her girlfriend and then ordered for both of them. As good as Tex Mex was (and Dani Moonstar had made the best), there was something about authentic Mexican food that was impossible to match. “Spice spice, baby.”
“I can handle the heat,” Diana responded smoothly. She took a drink of her water and wagged her eyebrows at Kitty a little bit. “Have you eaten here before?” She asked more mundanely.
“If you say so.” Kitty rubbed her toe up Diana’s shin. “And I haven’t. I picked it based on reviews and Logan’s recommendation.”
Logan might be a gruff, rustic person, but he knew good food.
Diana smirked a bit as she felt Kitty’s toe rubbing up her shin. She shuddered slightly and shifted her leg into the touch. “Well, I look forward to seeing what the food tastes like. It certainly smells wonderful.”
Kitty rubbed her hands together. She’d ordered water and a margarita, but was waiting until she had some food in her stomach before trying the later. But boy did she want to try the latter.
“Did you have a good day?”
Likewise, Diana was saving her alcoholic beverage for when their food came. She didn’t want to overdo the alcohol.
“I did. I talked to my mother and aunt this morning. Otherwise, I’ve just been looking forward to tonight with you.” She smiled at Kitty. “Though, Pyrrha wanted the details on what we were doing,” she added with a chuckle.
“Any news? How are they doing?” Kitty had a fondness for both of them, in part due to her wishing to be on their good side. She still sometimes felt like she wasn’t good enough for Diana; that she couldn’t compare to an Amazon as kind, strong and beautiful as she was. Kitty knew that was stupid but she’d watched her dreamself make mistake after mistake and replicated many of those while awake.
She had made a conscious effort to ignore the anxiety and enjoy her time with Diana.
“They survived the medicane, a type of Mediterranean cyclone, that hit Crete a couple days ago. Luckily they both had minimal damage to their homes.” Diana was thankful for that. Medicanes were rare, but even so it wasn’t a walk in the park either. “As for other good news, my mother is coming to visit next month for my Name Day.”
“That’s crazy. The storm, not your mother visiting. I’m kind of excited about the latter.” And terrified. Diana’s mother was, after all, a medicane of her own. “She’ll get to see how you live all the way out here.”
“It was definitely crazy.” Diana was glad that things weren’t as bad as they could have been with the storm. “Yes, she will. I may even see if Pyrrha would mind if I bunked with her so my mother wouldn’t have to stay in a hotel.” Of course, that also meant no funny business at her place while her mother was in town.
“I’m watching our sex life go on hold for the duration,” Kitty joked. “So we’ll have to stock up on it before then.”
Diana chuckled and smirked a bit. “Indeed, we’ll need to behave ourselves while my mother’s around. But I can guarantee that she’ll be cooking dinner for my Name Day. So you can look forward to that.”
