WHO: Lexi Branson and Sirius Black

WHERE: Park
WHEN: Backdated: 24 August
RATING: Family Friendly
STATUS: Complete
A day off without being outside was a day wasted if you asked Sirius. Tiny was with him, sniffing along the grass as they walked through the park. It was tempting to remove his wand from his pocket and do something to unbore himself, like hex some ears on a park goer or make them start pecking at the ground like a chicken.
But Sirius was still unused to doing magic and was a little afraid the ears and pecking might just stick forever. He’d give it a little more time to work out all the kinks, then he’d return to the park whenever he was bored.
Tiny trotted beside him until he saw a girl he was interested in. Sirius had a good hold on the dog and had control, but he didn’t mind saying hello to pretty people in the park. So as Tiny went, so did Sirius. It didn’t take any effort to turn on the charm as it was always there. It was a gift, what could he say?
“Top of the mornin’,” he greeted in his best Irish accent.
Lexi also had the day off and considering she worked at Disneyland, one would think that she would go somewhere with less kids and people in general, but Lexi didn’t really mind the kids and people, besides being in the park and being in The Park were two very different things and besides, who wanted to stay in the house on a beautiful day? So after grabbing a coffee, she’d wandered into the park, her long blond hair pulled back in a braid, which hung over her shoulder as she walked.
She had just sat down on a nearby bench and closed her eyes to enjoy the sun when she heard a voice beside her. If she were honest, she’d heard his heartbeat first and had known he was there even before he opened his mouth.
Opening her eyes, she smiled up at him, “Good morning yourself.” There was something vaguely familiar about the man, but it was early so Lexi couldn’t place it just yet.
“I hope you don’t mind us bothering you,” Sirius said, his tone indicating he didn’t actually care, “But you see, my dog requires a pet from everyone he sees. Would you be so kind?” Anyone with brain one in their melon would know this wasn’t this man’s normal way of talking and that his dog could have been led away from people he was interested in, that Sirius was just taking the piss.
“Not at all.” Still smiling, Lexi quirked a brow at the name, “And is that so? And what exactly happens if he doesn’t get a pet from every single person he sees?” Lexi certainly wasn’t naive enough to think that the man was serious, but she would happily play along, because he seemed harmless enough and even if he did have ulterior motives she could take him easily considering her enhanced vampiric strength and speed. However, she didn’t think that it would come to that.
“He gets very upset,” Sirius said, motioning to the dog to cover his face with a paw as if he were upset. “Just gives up on life, you see. Eats all my ice cream, watches court show reruns on television.” Sirius shook his head, heaving a sigh. “It’s terrible to watch him go downhill.” There was plenty of woe here, clearly.
“Well we can’t have that, now can we?” Lexi reached down so the dog could sniff her hand before she started scratching his head, “And what’s his name?” She asked, glancing up at the man as she continued to scratch the dog’s head. She was still pretty sure that he seemed familiar, but she saw so many people a day that sometimes she just thought people looked familiar, but they really weren’t.
Now how did one tell a stranger that his dog was named Motherfucka? Sirius didn’t really have a name for the dog. It was always Pal or Chum or Buddy, or Motherfucka. “Black Dog,” was his answer, since the dog often answered to that one as well. Black Dog was leaning against her hand, grunting appreciatively, the greedy bastard.
“What’s yours?” Sirius asked, as charming as you please. It was only fair Black Dog should know her name after all.
Lexi has heard worse pet names before so Black Dog wasn’t exactly strange, but it did make her wonder why some people couldn’t get more creative. She continued scratching Black Dog’s head as she looked back up at the man again, smiling, “I’m Lexi. What can I call you?”
Well wasn’t that an invitation for the boring ‘You can call me whatever you want’ answer? However, Sirius was leagues ahead of that and hadn’t used it since he was about thirteen years old and one of his cougar neighbors asked him his name. Black Dog wagged his tail some more, lavishing in the attention as Sirius answered, “That depends on who you ask, but most people call me Sirius.”
He offered over the hand that wasn’t holding the leash. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lexi.” She was cute, but his agenda was much more for Black Dog who’d seemed more interested in guaranteed pets, or an Oreo if she had one on her. “Are you one of the network people?” he asked, trying to gauge if she was a dreamer or just a resident.
As he introduced himself Lexi knew then why he seemed familiar even before he asked if she was from the network. “I am. In fact, we’ve talked a few times.” She smiled at him, recalling their conversations, “We tried to make plans to get a drink, but those plans fell through.” Part of her wasn’t the least bit surprised that they were now meeting randomly. It seemed to be the way things worked around here. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Sirius.”
Sirius made a lot of plans to meet people for drinks, but he thought now he remembered who she was. Flirty little thing that he’d enjoyed speaking with. “Ahhhh,” he said out of realization. “Maybe we’ll finally go get those drinks soon then.” He smiled back at her as Black Dog sniffed around the nearby grass. “I think he’s about to do his business. I’m sure it’ll make a brilliant impression.” With that, he dipped into his pocket for a bag. While he didn’t follow very many rules, picking up after his dog was one he refused to rebel against, lest he not be able to bring him to the park again.
“I’m always up for drinks.” Lexi smiled and sat back as Black Dog moved away to do his business. “Just let me know when you’re free.” She’d also enjoyed speaking to Sirius the handful of times they had spoken on the Net already so finally meeting him in person was somewhat exciting. Making new friends was something that Lexi enjoyed doing and she was generally good at it.
