Alice was enjoying the fact that Kurt still slept pretty solid through most of the night even though her dad kept telling her that would change soon and reminding her that his offer of the baby sleeping in his room now and then still stood. She might have to take him up on that but right now - she loved having her son in the bassinet near her bed where she could get to him quickly if he needed something at night. She heard him making a little crying sound through the baby monitor and quickly went upstairs to get him, lifting him up carefully as she made a soft soothing sound, rubbing his back as she tried to calm him down, subtly checking to make sure he didn’t need a change. “What’s wrong baby? Mommy’s here. Are you hungry? You didn’t eat much of your lunch…” she murmured, moving to sit in the rocker with him so she could take care of whatever he needed.
She heard the doorbell ring and stood back up. “Let’s go see who that is. Maybe it’s somebody to see you. Come to see the sweetest most adorable baby boy in the world.” Okay so maybe she was biased but - this was her son.

Tyler had meant to come by sooner, but Klaus had kept him nearly run off his feet lately and it was hard to remember that normal life, outside of Klaus’ demands, still existed. Still, he’d promised Alice burgers, and burgers he would deliver.
He showed up at the address she’d told him, take-out in his hand. He hadn’t gone for cheap fast food burgers, but had actually gone to one of better burger joints in the OC. After all, it wasn’t like he couldn’t splurge for a good burger every now and then. “Hey,” Tyler said when Alice opened the door, and he held up the take out bag. “I thought you could use a cheeseburger.”
***
Alice was surprised to see Tyler on the other side of the door as she opened it but after a moment she smiled at him as she stepped back to let him in. “I was just getting ready to have lunch so you've got perfect timing. Come on in,” She told him, closing the door behind him and adjusting Kurt so he could see the man. “Not someone here to see you but do you want to say hi anyway Kurt?” she asked as the baby made little sounds.
***
Tyler hoped she hadn’t started cooking yet, but his enhanced sense of smell didn't pick up any of the smells usually associated with cooking, so he was pretty sure he was safe.
“Hi,” Tyler said, offering a smile to the baby. “So, this one’s yours, huh?”
***
Alice had just been planning on a sandwich for lunch and she would have been fine with it but the burger was a much more tempting option. She was slowly coming to terms with the fact that some of the changes she'd gone through with the baby were sticking around. Like her craving for red meat.
She smiled at him, shifting Kurt in her arms into what she'd discovered to be a comfortable position for both of them. Or at least comfortable for her and not causing him to fuss endlessly. “He's mine. Kurt this is Tyler. Tyler this is the reason everyone keeps telling me I'll stop being able to sleep through the night soon, Kurt.”
“How far am I pushing my luck hoping there are fries too?”
***
“Hey little guy,” Tyler said, offering a little wave to the infant. He didn’t have much experience with kids, and if dreaming of Caroline’s baby shower was any indication, he should probably keep it that way, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t talk to them from afar.
“Not at all,” he said. “I brought soda too.”
***
Alice kissed Kurt’s cheek as he made little sounds at Tyler. “Such a sweet boy.” She whispered to him.
“You’re the best Tyler. Let me go take care of his lunch and then I’ll be back down and you can fill me in on your new job and we can figure out a schedule for my training right?” She asked, excitement at the chance to start getting control of her life back obvious.
***
“Uh, yeah, you do that,” Tyler said, trying very hard to hide his awkwardness at the idea of the baby getting lunch. Babies in general kind of made Tyler awkward. He’d never really had cause to deal with them before, and now that both he and Caroline were vampires, it seemed unlikely he ever would. Assuming that she never got magically knocked up with some dead witch’s twins here in the OC.
“Take as much time as you need,” he added, a little less awkwardly. “I’ll just make myself comfortable?”
***
Alice really was trying to hide the laughter that was coming up at Tyler’s awkwardness when she mentioned having to finish Kurt’s lunch but there was a definite amusement on her face as she headed for the stairs. “Make yourself comfortable. Kitchen’s to the left. Living rooms to the right. We’re pretty relaxed around here about where we eat. Sometimes it just works out best with our schedules to not make a big deal about it.” Well lately her dad’s schedule but she was looking forward to getting back to work now.
***
Tyler didn’t have any use for going in the kitchen; it wasn’t as though he could eat human food anyway. So he made his way straight to the living room, and put the burger, fries, and soda on the coffee table for Alice when she came back. Lacking anything else to do, he turned on the TV and turned to TSN.
***
Alice took Kurt up to her room and sat down in the chair to feed him, humming a little lullaby to him as she did and rocking the chair gently as he ate. “Now...mommy is going to put you down for a nap after your lunch and then go downstairs and have her own lunch with her friend. You’re going to be a good boy right?” She asked, smiling at him as she moved him up to her shoulder to rub his back for a few minutes.
“Of course you are. You’re my good boy.” She whispered as she stood up and moved to lay him in his bassinet, making sure she was covered up before checking to make sure the baby monitor was on before leaving the room. She’d brought the other end down to the living room with her this morning and she checked to make sure it was still on before sitting down on the couch. “You might be my dad’s favorite person if he ever finds out you watch TSN. He’s always trying to find people to watch with him that actually get what’s going on.” She joked as she leaned forward to get the food where he’d set it down.
***
From his seat on the couch, Tyler could hear Alice speaking softly to her baby and he couldn’t help but smile a little. Motherhood seemed to be a good fit for her, so far at least.
“I like to keep up on what’s going on,” Tyler said. “It’s my job after all.” Though, he’d been watching it long before he’d gotten a job as a college football coach. “So, when were you hoping to get back to training?” he asked.
***
“How is the new job going anyway?” Alice asked, unwrapping and biting into the burger he’d brought her. She swallowed and took a drink before answering his question. “The doctor said as long as I’m being careful and not overdoing it I can start back whenever. I’ve pretty much accepted that means I won’t be back to my old size for my premiere but is there a better reason to have to go shopping?” She said trying to sound like it wasn’t bugging her that she wasn’t going to be back in shape like she’d hoped.
***
“My girlfriend would take any opportunity to buy a new wardrobe,” at least, she would have in high school. She’d matured, though he was still pretty sure she enjoyed finding new outfits, “so at least there’s that. The new job’s been great. I’ve got to wake up too early, but other than that it’s fine, but it does mean that any sessions we’d have would have to be in the afternoon or early evening.”
***
“Well if she ever wants a shopping partner I’m going to be having to hit the stores for a while I think.” Alice said, joking with him just a little bit. “Afternoon or early evening works best for me anyway since I’ll have classes during the day. And any projects that might come my way. Although I’m not looking to get back on television any time soon so hopefully we won’t have to work around that schedule too much. And Kurt’s dad is going to be keeping him some while I’m at school and helping with babysitters so we won’t have a baby screaming all the time.”
***
“It will make it easier if we can just concentrate on the working out instead of worrying about Kurt too,” Tyler said. It was important to maintain a workout for at least twenty minutes at a time for there to be real improvement in. “So, you and Kurt’s dad. Are you together?” he asked. He didn’t think so, he hadn’t heard of Alice being involved with anyone, but who knew? With someone like Rita Skeeter breathing down her neck, Alice might have wanted to keep it quiet.
***
Alice shook her head as she reached for the fries he’d brought. “No. We’re just friends. Kurt...I don’t think he was in either of our plans but we’re making the best of things. And he’s the best accident I’ve ever had.” She said quietly. A relationship with anyone wasn’t in her plans right now. She needed some time to focus on herself and the baby and adding a relationship to that mix just wasn’t something she was willing to chance. Someone would end up suffering as her attention got split even further.
***
“It’s good you guys are still friends at least,” Tyler said. And even better that the dad was willing to step up once in a while. “It looks like you’re going to kill it at this whole mom thing.”
***
Alice knew she was using the food as a way to delay answering him. She just had no clue how to explain that they hadn’t known each other at all before she got pregnant. “I’m going to try. I...I feel like I’m going to mess it all up somehow somedays.” She said, face turning bright red as she realized what she’d just to him. “Sorry. That just slipped out.”
***
Tyler put a hand on her knee and gave a gentle squeeze. “If TV’s taught me anything, it’s that all new parents feel that way. I think all that matters is that you do your best.” It was a problem Tyler would never have to deal with; he couldn’t have kids anymore.
***
Alice gave Tyler a grateful smile at that reassurance. “I’m going to try to at least. If nothing else I’ve mastered that rocking walking bounce thing already. It soothes him.” She took a sip of the drink he’d brought her. “But as much as I could talk about my son all day...we should probably try to figure out which days will be best with your schedule.”
***
Tyler nodded. “Yeah,” he said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. “Well, the coaching job normally has me working early mornings and…”
