Who: Poe and Finn
When: After Poe first dreams
Where: Local bar
What: Dream talk
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Completed gdoc

Poe had been absolutely convinced all the dream talk wasn’t something to take seriously and instead enjoyed it like he was watching an interesting drama unfold, that was until he’d had one himself. He couldn’t really explain it but it felt different. Much more vivid and tangible than a normal dream. He was definitely glad he had Finn to talk to about it, that definitely made it easier to deal with.

They’d arranged to meet up for a drink and a dream chat, and Poe had gotten there a little early so by the time Finn arrived he’d already grabbed a nice booth and was nursing a beer. “Hey buddy” he smiled in greeting, “How you doing?”

Finn was practically buzzing with excitement, though he kept it under wraps best he could. After all, so far Poe was having dreams that predated his own. Even so, it was a start!

He made his way across the mostly empty bar - probably what they got for meeting early afternoon as opposed to after work hours - having spotted the recognizable pilot across the room.

“Hey,” he grinned, enjoying the fact even here he called him 'buddy’, as he did in the dreams. Then again, he called BB-8 buddy too, but still, the familiarity was nice.

He slid into the booth. “Doing okay. Glad to be out of the house. I'm starting to have entire conversations with Chewie.” He flagged down a waitress and ordered a Yuengling on tap.

Of course Poe had no idea he would eventually meet Finn in the dreams, or that he already displayed mannerisms his friend recognised.

“Oh that’s definitely a sign you need to get out more, we should do something regularly” Poe suggested, he wished he could help Finn find a job but he hadn’t come across anything that sounded like they’d be a good fit.

Finn grinned at that. “Yeah that would be great.” In the dreams he and Poe had been friends for all of ten seconds before being separated, and even when reunited they hadn't had much time to get to know each other considering they were constantly on a mission with the Resistance. So he was excited for this and future times to hang out.

“So the dreams,” he got right to the point. There was no beating around the bush with Finn. “Childhood on an alien planet huh?”

Poe smiled, it was good to have a friend here even if he and Finn had met under weird circumstances. He was a nice guy and Poe enjoyed his company.

“Yep, it was nice. Definitely had an alien feel to it you know? Like the trees and plants were just a bit odd and there were no buildings like there are here. It was good though. I like the idea of having a rebel pilot for a mom” he grinned.

Finn reflected his friend’s enigmatic grin with one of his own. Of course Poe’s mother would have been a Rebel pilot, and one of the best. He wondered what his father had done.

“That is pretty badass. What about your dad? Was he in the Rebellion too?”

His beer came and Finn took it with thanks, then deciding to order some french fries. Beer always tasted better with some munchies. “So, is that it? Just little Poe Dameron ace kid pilot on some alien planet? Nothing else?” He was practically bursting at the seams for the guy to dream something Finn could actually say ‘Guess what! Same universe!’ to. But if it was just Poe’s childhood at the moment, revealing he was a reformed bad guy probably wasn’t the best idea.

“Yeah, he was a sergeant. They have some incredible stories about fighting against the Empire, who are these big bads in this world” Poe had actually rather enjoyed the dreams, once he got past how strange they were. “That’s all so far, but I get the feeling they’ll carry on, I’m one of you all now” he winked, “As crazy as all the others”

Finn chuckled. “Yep. I'm sure we've got pins somewhere.” When the fries came he pushed them to the middle of the table so he could share with Poe. Finn munched on a few fries, which were hot and crispy, straight out of the fryer. His dark brow furrowed a little as he mused trying to figure out what to talk about next. It wasn't like Poe would want to know about Finn's dream childhood with the First Order. How do you begin to explain being raised by what were essentially space Nazis?

“I’ll definitely need one of those” Poe laughed, stealing a fry when Finn pushed them to the middle. “So how are you anyway? Apart from going crazy from a lack of job” Finn had told him he was finding it hard, and Poe could definitely feel for him.

“All right.” He shrugged. “Been hanging with Rey most days. Trying to learn stuff and not get in the way while she's fixing stuff.” She was working on something huge, he knew, but so far he hadn’t been allowed to tag along. He totally understood: he was a soldier, not a mechanic. “Otherwise, it’s been me and Chewie. I took him to the beach for the first time the other day. That was interesting.” He chuckled.

Poe nodded before chuckling too, “So is he a sand fan or not?” he asked, imagining the fun that must have been for both dog and owner. Poe had to admit one of the perks of living here was the proximity to the beaches, he quite liked walking along the shore himself.

Finn grinned. “He didn't know what to do at first, it was hilarious. He kept barking at it and wouldn't step in it after his first few steps. Had to convince him with his favorite toy. Then once we cleared that hurdle he saw the ocean and started barking and running back and forth, afraid of the surf.” He laughed. Then he remembered something. “I took some video hold on.” Finn turned and pulled his phone from his jacket, finger swiping over the screen until he found it. He held it out to Poe.

“Poor doggo, it’s a confusing thing. Shifting sand where it should be solid and then something that must look like a massive bath” he grinned before accepting the phone and watching the video, chuckling at the dogs antics, “He’s determined to tell it off” he laughed as it ended and he handed the phone back. Part of him still really wanted a dog but he knew it wouldn’t be fair just yet.

“Yeah,” Finn laughed. “Then I picked him up and dropped him in the surf a little and helped him get used to it. I think if we ever head up to a national park he'll enjoy swimming in a lake now.”
He plucked another fry from the basket. “So what about you?” He said around it. “What have you been up to?”

“That would definitely help” Poe chuckled, “But you’re right, he’ll appreciate the water more now”

Poe shook his head, “I am afraid I am really boring. Other than work and settling into a routine of sorts I’ve done very little” he admitted.

“Well I guess for both our sakes we're gonna have to change that, huh.” Finn chuckled. “We could all go see a movie. You, me and Rey.” He offered. “It's been a while since I've gone anyway.”

“Sounds like a plan to me” he said clinking his glass against Finn’s with a nod, the start of a social life coming into being was definitely something to celebrate.
