Freya was back home, but she was clearly sick. And who knew how she was emotionally after everything with Dahlia. Klaus had immediately rushed her home and put her in bed. While he let his sister sleep he headed down stairs to his studio to paint. There were quite a few new paintings since Freya had left. All full of dark colors, portraying Klaus’s mood. However there was one that stood out. One that he hadn’t painted in this life. It had come from the dreams. created with Mikael’s ashes. He had received just a few days ago and left it in the studio for now. Looking at it caused a small smile to form on Klaus’s face. He had finally won against Mikael, and now he had a reminder of it.
Klaus remained in his studio painting for he didn’t know how long. The hybrid tended to lose track of time when it came to his passion. In fact he was so into his painting that he barely heard Freya make her way downstairs. But he had heard her. Vampire hearing and all. Setting his paintbrush down he stepped outside of his studio, leaving the door open behind him. “How are you feeling?” he asked his sister as she reached the last step. “Can I get you anything?”
It had been a lot. The fighting. And just everything she’d been dealing with for months because of work and the constant travel. So while her body did need the rest, it wasn’t like she could just go to sleep and wake up fine. If only. So it had been a few hours before she woke up. No new dreams, just being thirsty really. It took a moment to place herself - especially since it had been nearly a month since she’d been in her own bed.
Right. The fight with Dahlia. Klaus showing up. Channelling his strength so she’d be able to destroy the body of her aunt once and for all. Which had allowed in Klaus’ mind and while that hadn’t been the plan, it did give closure on some things even if Klaus would forever be too proud to admit it.
So she had been on the hunt for water when Klaus showed up at the bottom of the steps.
“A bit better.” She had to smile slightly at the offer. It usually was in the actions and not the words to know that things were back to their version of normal. “I was just getting water.”
At her words Klaus sped to the kitchen filling up a glass for her. He didn’t use his speed on the way back though, he didn’t want to spill it. “Here,” he said handing it to her. “You should get some more rest.” She had been through a lot. She wasn’t immortal like him. She needed her rest. And Klaus was here to make sure his sister got better.
All things considered, Freya was pretty used to the use of vampire speed at this point and didn’t even react when Klaus sped off only to return (at a normal pace) with water, which she took gratefully.
“I may be sick, but I’m not an invalid. I can handle getting things like water.”
Well. At least she wasn’t saying that she was fine when she clearly wasn’t? That had to count for something. Then again, Freya was the type to trying and save her family while poisoned and dying so it wasn’t all that strange if she would try to work despite being sick. Which admittedly she did want to but she also knew that she needed the break and rest. She’d make those calls later though.
“Thank you, though.”
She was going to need to check later to see if there was anything in her magic bookcase where her supplies were for some ancient herbal remedies she had picked up over the centuries in her dreams. That could wait for now.
“I know you’re perfectly capable,” Klaus replied. Stubbornness ran in the Mikaelson family. Perhaps not quite on the same level as Klaus. But when it came to her work or her morals, Freya could be just as stubborn. Klaus didn’t want her to push herself too soon. Even if he was sure she was ready to get back to saving the world. “That doesn’t mean your brother can’t help you out.”
Well at least he could acknowledge that. No, Klaus was usually good about that but given how he could get when paranoid about her wellbeing, sometimes it didn’t always feel like he knew this fact. Luckily for her brother though, Freya was actually acknowledging that she was sick and was going to take the time to get better. Yes that meant that eventually she’d need to make sure she had what she needed to make that ancient herbal remedy but it was better than what she’d been doing of pushing through despite being sick. “Which is greatly appreciated and I’m sure there will be some things I’ll need your help with.”
“Don’t hesitate,” Klaus replied though it came out a bit harsher than he intended. “I’ll be here,” he added trying to soften his tone a bit. Freya had been through a lot with Dahlia. Klaus wasn’t here to make it worse. He did care for his sister. Even though they fought, he wanted to be there for her. “I have a painting to finish.” Not this moment, but it was his way of letting Freya know he didn’t plan on leaving the house. He would be around to take care of her.
Freya nodded some. She didnt’ take much offense at the initial harshness of the comment. It was Klaus and she had just been in his mind recently so she knew it was more….Klaus than any sort of anger he might have at her.
“I won’t.”
She was also aware of what the comment on a painting to finish meant.
“Oh? Can I see it?”
“Shouldn’t you be resting?” Klaus replied with a raised brow his tone light. As much as Klaus did enjoy showing off his works, he wanted, needed his sister to rest and get better. “There will be plenty of time to look at my paintings later. They aren’t going anywhere.”
The comment about resting was met with a brow quirk. She had already stated that while she was sick, she wasn’t an invalid and that comment held to this as well. Besides, it had been nearly a month of them fighting. She was going to take the time to look at her brother’s work.
“Looking at your paintings is hardly strenuous. Besides, it will be good to stretch my legs. And if I need to sit down, I can.”
“Fine,” Klaus replied knowing how stubborn his sister could be. Especially when it came to staying still. He knew better than to try and force her back into her bed. Besides, at least looking at paintings meant she wasn’t working. It was almost resting.
“You know where it is,” Klaus replied referring to his studio. “Make yourself at home,” he even managed a small grin at that comment.
A universal truth that could be spoken of when dealing with any of the Mikaelson siblings was to take your wins where you could get them. With Freya, that meant even if she wasn’t resting in bed, if she wasn’t finding some way to work and seemed relax, then she was resting in some sense of the word.
A slight smile was given at the comment on making herself at home but she said nothing to it, instead heading to the studio to see what it was her brother had been up to in her absence. Tyler had mentioned that he’d been called on a lot in that time but beyond that…. So she was both shocked but also not entirely by how dark the paintings seemed to be as Klaus always did paint his feelings.
She was about to comment when something else caught her attention though and she just quirked a brow at Klaus.
“And what are you planning to do with this particular piece?” Because really. The painting with Mikael’s ashes. Of course it would show up. Of course.
“Ah,” Klaus said the smirk back on his face. He had a feeling Freya knew exactly what it was. Or rather what it was made of. She was ahead of him in the dreams after all.
“It’s too bad Father’s Day just passed.” Or well like two month ago, but still it was fairly recent. “Perhaps it will make a nice Christmas present.”
Oh Freya definitely knew what it was made of. It was hard not to given she had seen Klaus murder Mikael in the dreams after their father had been helping her get what was needed to stop Dahlia. Of course she had been wrong on the ingredients because she never mattered but that was neither here nor there and things were just different.
Nor was she surprised that Klaus was debating giving the painting to their father.
“Oh yes, such a shame Father’s Day has already passed. Christmas though. It would more than fit the season.” Families coming together and old wounds being reopened and the very strong need to drink to forget.
“Christmas it is then,” Klaus said with a grin. He didn’t care if Freya was being sarcastic or not. He had every intention in giving Mikael a painting made from his ashes. It was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
