Elena glanced up at him through lowered eyelashes, gaze fond. The compliment was well-given and one that he certainly believed. At least he didn't think that she was the second coming of Katherine. She loved her twin but the dream Katherine had been venomous and vindictive.
But at his confession, her heart strings tugged. It wasn't always true but she could understand some of the resentment there. "Founder's Day," she reminded him softly, her hand stretching out to rest over his. "You told Stefan to get me out of there but I wouldn't leave without Jeremy. You almost burned. Stefan ran into the flames to get you." Elena squeezed his hand, eyes sincere. "I would have run in after him if Bonnie hadn't stopped me." Even then.
