Who: Thor and Valkyrie
What: Talking about what happened to the Valkyrie
Where: a bar
When: End of July
Rating: PG-13
It had been a couple weeks since she’d dreamt about what had happened to the Valkyrie. It still reverberated through her, haunted her. She was still drinking heavily, but that was nothing new. However, she finally felt like she could maybe, maybe tell Thor about why the Valkyrie were gone by the time he came around. So she’d texted him and asked him to meet her for drinks.
Valkyrie was already there with a beer, trying to keep herself as calm as possible to be able to tell Thor the horror that she’d dreamt.
He was pretty sober himself, but he’d reflect on his own dreams later, not wanting to be the kind of person to make something about themselves. There was that fine line between doing that and just offering examples as an expression of understanding, anyway.
“Getting started early?” He took a seat next to her.
“I always get started early,” she commented with a smile as she raised her beer before taking a drink of it. “You want a beer or are you going for something else?” It was definitely going to be a multiple drink night for her. Especially recanting the trauma of seeing her sisters die at Hela’s hands.
“I think a good beer sounds fine.” He almost said ale, and it had been very hard to not actually say that.
Very, very hard.
Valkyrie signaled the bartender for a beer for Thor. And another for her since she went about downing the rest of her glass in one breath. “So. I dreamt about what happened to the Valkyrie.” She said. But waited for their new beers to arrive before continuing.
“Oh?” Thor had never learned of that. He’d wanted to join them but no one talked about them. They were these warriors of myth and legend and yet… he’d never asked why there were none around. His expression shifted, darkening as he considered it. “What happened?”
Valkyrie took a slow breath, keeping her gaze focused on her beer. “Odin had been a conqueror, with Hela leading his armies. However, she grew too power-hungry and turned her own army on Asgard when Odin resisted her. Odin sent us Valkyrie to fight her. She killed every single one of us, save for me. I’m the last of the Valkyrie. So, I did the only sensible thing. I left Asgard, never to return.”
And with that, she down her entire beer in one go. The image of her sister saving her life flashing before her eyes. Putting her glass down, she closed her eyes and rubbed at them with her other hand. She was traumatized by the experience.
Thor blinked at that, unable to make that connection, “Father was a warrior, yes. He brought the Nine Realms together. BUt...but….”
But his father was as good at half-truths as Loki was, and Thor grew upset, because there was just enough to make it true, even if he wasn’t inclined to believe her. “I am sorry. I grieve with your loss.”
“Perhaps in your time he brought the Nine Realms together. In mine, he was a conqueror until he decided not to be, and Hela turned against him.” Valkyrie took a deep breath. “But thanks. It was not easy, and I’m not sure why I even survived. I should have died along with the rest of them.”
She also should’ve died along with her family in this life. Her trauma ran deep and strong, and now she had it twice over. And at this rate, she’d probably destroy her liver before 2018 was over.
“You survived for a reason,” Thor pointed out. “Perhaps you don’t know what that reason is, yet. And maybe you won’t for some time. But you’re alive for a reason, and your sisters would prefer that at least one of you to be alive. To carry on, if nothing else.”
He wasn’t sure that was enough, but sometimes not quite enough had to be enough.
“Or maybe it’s just dumb luck,” she retorted. She shrugged a shoulder. She had intense survivor’s guilt, especially in this life. “But what good are the Valkyrie when there’s only one left? I’m not an army, and I certainly can’t fight Hela alone when she just...slaughtered my sisters without breaking a sweat.”
He didn’t have an answer for that, even if, deep in his heart, he knew that there would be a way, “She was defeated eventually, because I do not even know she exists in the dreams. She does here, though she is estranged from the family.”
“Glad to hear someone put that bitch down,” Valkyrie practically spat. “Though sorry, given she’s your sister. I just hope she doesn’t show up here. I have enough issues without having to see her face around here.”
“From the sound of it, I can’t disagree. She’s enough of a bitch as it is. A lot less pleasant than my other half-sister.” Thor scratched his beard, thinking of Angela. “Granted. Not all that much less pleasant.”
“How did your family end up with the little ray of sunshine that is you?” Valkyrie asked rhetorically. But seriously, she wondered how he could have a sister like Hela. Maybe one of them was adopted?
“That’s a very good question,” Thor said, almost cheerfully. He had so many siblings it was kind of hilarious. Both of his parents were, well, sluts, “I like to thank my mother.”
“Mothers tend to be the ones that are responsible for that.” Valkyrie eyed him for a moment before taking another drink. “Though I shouldn’t say you’re a little ray of sunshine because you’re not little in any way, shape or form.”
Thor’s grin widened, and he was glad to have gotten Valkyrie’s mind off of her dreams, at least for now, “You would have personal experience with that.”
It was definitely a welcome distraction. She grinned at him. “Indeed I do. Gotta say, I do love climbing you like a tree.” And Thor really did know how to use his hammer.
He threw his head back and laughed, then reached over and brushed some hair off of her cheek, “A redwood, I hope?”
“More like a blondewood, but yes. You’re also the perfect level of being hard in all the right places.” She smirked, her gaze dropping to a rather specific part of his anatomy before she looked back up at him.
“It’s pretty obvious where your mind is going,” Thor replied. “Mayhaps we can do something about that.”
“I’m definitely game to doing something about that. The only question is, where shall we do something about it?” Valkyrie had no limits on where she liked having sex. Besides, sometimes it was more exhilarating to have sex outdoors, or in public places. It just depended on their mood. Though right now, Valkyrie wanted Thor to hammer her and didn’t care where that happened.
Thor tilted his head, “I know a place, and we might not even get arrested.”
“That sounds perfect. Lead the way,” she said as she finished off her drink and left money for it. Valkyrie was definitely ready to rumble. At the very least, it would keep her from thinking about bad things for a while.
