Something was bound to give eventually and it seemed to be Freya’s health. Though with constant travelling, constant stress, and no real time to decompress? It made sense. But even though Freya was well aware of the fact she was sick? She wasn’t sitting back. There had been two days of demon invasion and so she’d been using magic to fight and putting more strain on her body but it had seemed that the demons were gone.

Only for the dead to rise. Because of course. So with minimal sleep, Freya had been dealing with that as well. She wasn’t really thinking about what that could mean, about who could show up. She just knew that along with the risen dead were other creatures and they needed to be stopped and she had her abilities so that was what she was focusing on. In some ways it was at least something physical she could fight and defeat as opposed to her work where some progress would be made only to be unmade. She could see the demons die instead of being in immigration court or listening to children say their parents abandoned them because the people in the detention centers told them that and unable to do all that much to help. Demons died, the bigotry and hatred that led to her work didn’t and there were always excuses and setbacks.

There was a lull though and Freya was hoping that whatever it was that was going on was coming to an end. As much as she appreciated being able to see an outcome to what she was doing, using magic was putting a strain on her heart and lungs right now because she was actually sick and thus she was expending energy she didn’t actually have to spare.

“Well well well, look at that. You’re alone. Unsurprising really.”

No. Freya tensed as she slowly turned around. She should have expected this, she really should have expected this. Because this was her life, if something could go wrong? Well. It would go wrong. So noting that the dead had risen probably should have pointed to the possibility that Dahlia would show up.

Feeling the magic crackle in her hand, the tension and need to lash out, Freya’s eyes narrowed before she waved her hand to snap Dahlia’s neck.

“You should have stayed dead.”

Watching her aunt’s body collapse to the ground, Freya let herself breathe before coughing only for Dahlia to rise again. Okay...so much for that plan.

“And leave you to your own? Clearly your siblings have finally seen you for what you are and just as I predicted, left you in the cold. I’m the only one who will ever truly care about you.”

She needed more power. And she had left her amulet in her bag. Around them, birds had started to drop dead, Freya’s breathing quickening from the strain and stress of being around Dahlia. Of her words seeping into her mind and all those fears she thought she had buried. But with work bringing up those wounds and lies, and the current state of her relationship with Klaus, of worrying the same would happen with her other brothers, of seeing Elijah die in the dreams…

“Tell me, darling. How long did it take for them to see the truth? That you’re nothing and of no use to them?”

“Shut up!” Neck snapping didn’t seem to work but there had to be something she could do. It was too risky to do a fire spell. But she had to find a way to kill Dahlia. For good. Even as her heart was erratic, the wind picking up and more birds dropping dead. She just..needed to destroy the body that was currently walking towards her and into her personal space.

“Oh, my Freya. You should know, you’ll never be free from me.”

Of course in Freya’s absence from their home and his life, Klaus finally began to dream about her. How she showed up only wanting to help her family and Klaus didn’t trust her. He couldn’t exactly blame his dreamself. It wasn’t like he had the best track record with family. His own parents were trying to kill him after all. Hell, he barely even trusted the siblings he grew up with for over a thousand years, so a new one showing up out of the blue? Why would Klaus trust her?

Still even though he knew the reasoning behind his dreamself’s actions, it was difficult to watch how he treated his sister, because he knew that Freya could be trusted and he had a feeling her dreamself wasn’t all that different. It wasn’t like he varied that much from his dreamself. Seeing his sister in his dreams, it made him miss her more than he already did. Especially each morning when he first woke up. But Klaus had his pride. He wasn’t going to apologize to Freya. She had still betrayed him.

Along with his dreams the county seemed to be having another one of it’s attacks. This time by demons. Klaus didn’t have much problem killing them, he enjoyed it. At least he was killing something that wasn’t an innocent victim for a few days. However, in the back of his mind he was worried about Freya. She wasn’t immortal, and while he knew she could hold her own, he still worried.

And then came another night of dreams. His family had all turned on him. They believed the worst in him, that he had killed Aiden when it was really Dahlia. But Klaus let them believe it. If they wanted to believe the worst so be it. He would use it to his advantage. He figured it would prove to Hayley the wolves couldn’t protect her and Hope and bring his daughter and her mother closer to him. His plan backfired however, only isolating him even more from his family. But when Dahlia links herself to Klaus he did the right thing and dagger himself to knock them both out. But when the dagger melted he woke to find Freya over him with the white oak stake, ready to kill him in order to kill Dahlia. Luckily he was able to stop her but then Dahlia got ahold of the white oak stake and with the linking spell now broken she was free to kill Klaus. His bitch of an aunt ended up turning the stake into ashes almost killing him and his siblings as they inhaled it. For some reason Esther actually saved them by making Dahlia powerless. Freya broke the spell that kept her protected and Klaus was finally able to kill both Esther and Dahlia. That was the day his dreamself accepted Freya into the family. Klaus woke up with a small ache in his heart for his sister.

Klaus ignored the urge to go find his sister instead heading to his gallery, distracting himself with work. That was when he noticed the dead had risen. And if the dead was alive, that meant Dahlia could be back. No, he was just being paranoid, probably because he had just had so many dreams about her. But still he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling to go find Freya. Make sure she was safe. Mad at her or not, she was his sister. Klaus did love her even if he would never say it. He made his way to the Pimpernel Outreach where he was sure Freya would be. Either there or with Evie. His first guess was wrong so to Evie’s it was. He kept his ears focused on Freya’s voice, good thing to because he heard her while he was still on his way. And she wasn’t alone.

Klaus heard everything Dahlia said to Freya. The way she spoke to Freya? It reminded him so much of how Mikael would talk to him and Klaus was instantly furious. He rushed over to the pair, eyes already glowing yellow. “Don’t make me kill you again,” he growled threatening Dahlia. He didn’t care if she was a spirit or a ghost or whatever the hell she was. He would find a way to kill her.

There were many similarities between both Freya and Klaus as well as between Mikael and Dahlia no matter what the woman would want to believe. All Freya knew was that she needed to find a way to destroy Dahlia since neck snapping wasn’t working. She even tried a heart extraction spell but seeing at how she was dead, that did nothing as well. She could feel herself getting dizzy but pushed it to the side. There wasn’t time for dizziness.

Dahlia had just reached out to grab Freya’s throat when Klaus showed up, rolling her eyes.

“Just like before, it won’t hold.”

And in things that Freya hadn’t anticipated that day? It would be Klaus showing up. Perhaps not the most shocking of things. She knew that they seemed to make up in the dreams whenever there were issues. So it wasn’t like she felt there was no chance of it, but with how long it had been going on and everything else in the crazy that had been her life the past few months, the constant reminders of her time with Dahlia in her interviews with children torn from their families, well… it had been a trying time and so it hadn’t even been on her radar that this would be when they would see one another after the fight.

She wasn’t going to complain though. So besides the momentary shock, she pushed it to the side. It was always possible he had just been close enough and overheard. Either way, there was a more pressing matter at hand. Dahlia.

“We need to destroy her body.”

“Hush you stupid child.” And getting knocked to the side by Dahlia who turned to look at her, still close enough to do some damage, causing Freya to stumble but glare at her dead aunt through her hair.

Seeing Dahlia knock Freya to the ground not only pissed Klaus off. But it also meant she could be touched. She wasn’t some ghostly figure. Klaus didn’t hesitate to take advantage of that. In a blur he came at Dahlia, placing his hand to her throat pushing her back into the nearest building, hand remaining firmly on her throat to keep her in place. “No one touches my sister!” he growled.

“The one we buried?” Klaus asked Freya for clarification because there was a body right in front of him. One that scoffed at his question.

“Be quiet!” he yelled at Dahlia even if she hadn’t actually spoken anything. “I may not hear a heartbeat but I would be more than happy to rip out your heart again.”

“Pretty sure that’s the one you buried.” She had seen something about the undead. Freya hadn’t gotten to any cemetary or the like to see if they were literally rising from their graves, but she had a feeling that was the case. Either way, destroying the body was needed.

“I don’t have the strength alone to do the spell I have in mind though.”

Freya hated admitting that but given what they were up against? She was going to have to do so.

“Pathetic child, never could do things by yourself. Always--”

And a neck snap. It wouldn’t last long, she’d already learned that. But listening to Dahlia was grating on her nerves and she didn’t have the energy to put up with it. Not right now.

Klaus was about to go ahead and rip out the unbeating heart when Freya snapped Dahlia’s neck. No one talked to his sister like that. He wouldn’t allow it. But Freya handled it on her own. Deep down Klaus knew that was for the better. This was her fight. If it was Mikael, well he would want to do all the torturing on his own.

“You can use me,” Klaus said while Dahlia was down for the moment. “Channel power through me.”

Freya hadn’t been sure Klaus would offer and she wasn’t going to ask. Given where they had left things, even if he had shown up and was threatening Dahlia, it was hard to say if he’d be willing to let her channel him. That answered that particular question though. And she wasn’t going to argue it either. She might have her pride but she knew her limits and as she’d already been pushed past them as evidenced by the dead birds around them as she lost her grip of control and general sense of being sick… well, she knew it was the only real option here.

So grabbing her brother’s hand, Freya began to channel his strength as she chanted the spell. Even with Klaus’ strength, Freya was weak from pushing herself so hard the past two months but she pushed through it. And soon the body of Dahlia was destroyed and as the spell ended, Freya all but collapsed coughing.

Right. That whole sick thing.

Well that worked. A satisfied smirk crossed Klaus’s face. That was until his sister collapsed. In an instant he was kneeling down next to her, placing an arm around her and picking her up. “Come on,” Klaus said as he began to carry her. “We need to get you home.”
