Exactly one week ago Andromeda had had a strange dream that didn't necessarily feel like a dream. If she had been honest, it felt more like a memory than anything else. The strangest thing about this dream/memory thing was that she had been trying to induce it again for the greater part of the week with no success. Naturally she would dream it again on Thursday and Friday night when people were having some sort of panic over things.
Despite Lily's offer to be a phone call away, Andromeda chose to drive the twenty-some minutes to her parent's house on Friday night. What she had hoped to gain, she wasn't entirely certain. It wasn't as though her parents would be particularly comforting. In fact, Andromeda was mostly certain they lacked what ever chromosome that was specifically responsible for empathy. Her parents had not been home according to the Housekeeper that came to the door when she had let herself in. Nor were her sisters. Given the hour, she went up to her old room and slipped into her bed for the night. Perhaps her sisters would be back tomorrow morning, and she could ask them if they had been having strange dreams as well. Lily seemed to mention it, so it was possible.
In the morning, however, the house was still empty save the housekeeper, probably. Andromeda was in the kitchen making herself some toast when she heard a crash from another room.
"Teresa," she called out as she reached for the phone in her back pocket. As she peered into the room, a figure darted out from behind the sofa and took off in her direction. Andromeda jumped, letting out a scream, but calmed when she realized that the figure was a cat. When had her parents gotten a cat? Maybe it was Narcissa's, they always indulged her the most anyway.
Returning to the kitchen, she went for the purse she had left on the counter only to discover it wasn't there. Odd, she thought and turned in her spot before seeing it float away on the floor toward the laundry room. There was no way a cat could have done such a thing, she reasoned, and made her way back to the entry hall to retrieve one of her father's golf clubs from the closet. Once armed, Andromeda made her way back through the house. She approached the laundry room quietly and reached for the door, taking a deep breath as she placed her hand on the handle.
"What am I doing? This isn't a movie," she muttered to herself. Thankfully she wasn't in her pajamas anymore or this would have been even more embarrassing. If someone was in that laundry room and they killed her for trying to get her purse back, her mother would be furious. Most of all if she left any blood behind. The thought eased her anxiety just long enough for Andromeda to cross herself, though she was certain she had done it incorrectly. Teresa had always done it in times if distress, and now seemed as good a time as any to do it.
Andromeda pushed down the door handle and burst into the laundry room, screaming and wielding a golf club that was incredibly heavy for the way she was holding it. What she saw int hat laundry room looked like it was out of Kingdom Hearts, or Legend of Zelda more than real life. There were at least a dozen tiny little creatures sifting through her purse and emptying its contents on the floor. If she could only get her wallet, which was on the floor beside the little thing currently pulling things out of the bag.
It was time to go, Andromeda decided and swung the golf club at the nearest little... gnome? No, they didn't look anything like the cute little statues people put in their yards. Her decision riled them up when they saw their little friend fly into the wall. Almost instantly they all turned on her, their little teeth showing. She swung wildly as she cleared a path to her purse, and used the end of the club to shoot her wallet across the floor toward the kitchen.
Andromeda turned and smacked another little imp straight into a group of others, and ran. They chased her out of the laundry room and as she scooped up her wallet from the floor, one jumped on her. Her scream filled the lower level of the house, and she slammed herself into the wall to get the little creature that was burning her shoulder off.
Where these little things had come from, she wasn't sure but she did notice that there seemed to be more of them. She clutched her shoulder, perhaps the slam had been a little too rough. She slid her wallet into her free back pocket and picked up the golf club again. When one of those little demons came near her she swung, usually sending it flying into the wall.
"Teresa," she called out gain as she made it to the stair, but there was no answer. There wasn't any more time to wait, Andromeda had to get out of the house and call the fire department, or the police, or... the Ghostbusters, she wasn't entirely sure, actually. Pulling the front door open, Andromeda came face to face with many more of those little beasts. "You've got to be kidding me..."
The car. She had to get to the car, and if she ran them all over... oh well. Andromeda swung her way to her car and got into it as quickly as possible. She fished her car keys out of her pocket, glad she had not left them in her purse, and began the car. She was halfway out of the driveway, and a little sick to her stomach from all the crunching and bumps she was running over when a much bigger monster appeared in front of her. In her panic, she slammed her foot down on the gas, closed her eyes, and ran right into the thing. The impact sent her lurching forward and eventually back against her seat. "Ooph."
There were a few moments during which Andromeda was waiting for her head to stop spinning. When it did, her first thought was that her father was going to absolutely kill her for ruining her car. She was dead. If these monsters didn't kill her, her dad would. It had seemed to work though, the little imps were backing away, and the... bigger thing was laying on the ground under the car.
Now was her chance, she ran back toward the garage and took her mother's car. Luckily, Druella always left the keys in the visor when she was out of town so that her car could be taken for detailing. Where she would go, she would decide as soon as she left the house. Provided she could drive without any more of those things following her. It took a bit of maneuvering, but she was out of the gates as soon as her panic would allow.
Still shaking, she remembered reading that morning that the two Baxter Bakeries had been a safe place to go. Now she understood what that had meant, as well as why people had been saying the other things they said. Once Andromeda got to Baxter, she would text her friends and family. Yeah, that was a good plan for the shaky girl driving what was essentially a stolen car. At least at Baxter she could also stress eat.
She was there within a few short minutes, and parked the car horribly. Normally, she would have tried to do a better job, but her nerves were completely shot at what had happened. The moment the door of the bakery closed behind her, Andromeda fell into a chair and took a deep breath.
She needed a few cream horns.
