It had been a little over a week since Klaus had flown to Virginia and killed his father. That hadn’t been his attention of course, but when Ansel denied Klaus was his son, Klaus couldn’t control his rage and ripped out Ansel’s heart. Since returning to Orange County he had been hiding out at Tyler Lockwood’s place. That sire bond sure came in handy. Klaus hadn’t been ready to face his family. He still wasn’t. So he did what he did best, went out and killed whoever he damn well pleased each and every night.
Finn had been worried about his brother. Ever since Freya had told them that he was going out of town, Finn couldn’t help but wonder why Klaus had asked their sister to tell them instead of him telling them himself. Something was up, but when was it not when it came to Klaus? Finn loved his brother, but he also knew what he was like in the dreams and worried he was turning into that person.
He had decided to go out for a drink and was just leaving the bar when he picked up on a, now familiar, scent. Following the smell of blood, Finn frowned as he recognized another familiar scent.
“Niklaus?” It was strange, knowing his brother’s scent so particularly now, but he supposed it simply came as part of the whole vampire package.
Klaus was browsing the bar for this evening’s selection when he heard a familiar voice. Finn. What the hell was his brother doing here? Probably looking for him. “What do you want?” he snapped. Assuming that Finn was indeed here for him and not just out for a drink.
Finn quirked a brow at Klaus, “I’m guessing your trip didn’t go well?” All he knew about his brother’s trip out of town was that he had gone out of town and had asked Freya to tell them all. He knew no other details and especially didn’t know why he smelled of blood, but then again, considering the fact that they both drank it on a regular basis, he must also smell a little like it.
Klaus didn’t even want to think about his trip, let alone talk about it. “It was fine” he growled at his brother. Making it very clear it was a subject he wasn’t going to discuss any further. Though it was also probably clear to Finn, that his trip didn’t go well. “Now if you’ll excuse me,” Klaus said before taking off at vampire speed to the other end of the bar where he started to compel a pretty blonde to meet him outside.
Common sense told him that he should just leave Klaus alone, but being Klaus’ older brother, he simply couldn’t. Making his way over to where Klaus was now talking to a woman, he came to stand beside his brother, “Why don’t we have a drink and catch up.” He’d picked up on snippets of when Klaus had said to the woman as he’d gotten closer and he had a pretty good idea of exactly what sort of drink Klaus was really after.
The blonde was already making her way outside when Finn came over. Of course his brother wasn’t going to leave him alone. “Fine,” Klaus replied. “Grab yourself a drink and meet me outside.” As in a human. That was the only drink Klaus was interested in at the moment. If his brother wanted to talk to him it was going to be on his terms.
Of course unlike Klaus, Finn didn’t drink from humans. He hadn’t since the person he’d killed shortly after he’d turned. “Niklaus, why don’t you let her be.” Part of him knew that it was fairly unlikely that he’d be able to talk Klaus out of something he wanted to do, but there was always the possibility and besides, he was concerned about him. “If it’s blood you want, I have blood bags at my place.” He was determined to try.
Klaus was stubborn on his best of days. But today he was in a mood like no other. Everything was going to be his way. “You go enjoy that, Finn. My meal is waiting for me outside.” With that Klaus took off for the alley, not caring if his brother followed or not. Probably better if he didn’t. Klaus wasn’t ready to deal with his family yet.
Finn sighed and while part of him wanted to just leave Klaus to do whatever he wanted to do, he also knew that he couldn’t just leave without knowing if the woman Klaus had compelled was going to be alright. He didn’t yet know if Klaus left his victims alive.
As his brother headed outside, Finn followed, stepping out into the alley moments after.
Finn stepped outside just as Klaus drained the woman dry, letting her drop to the ground. An evil smirk on his face, blood still dripping from his lips as he turned to face his brother. “About time you showed up.”
The smell of blood hit Finn harder than before, seeing as it was fresh and he used all his willpower to resist it, “Did you have to drain her?” If he’d been only a few moments sooner he might have at least gotten Klaus to leave her alive, “People are going to start noticing if this continues. This isn’t like the dreams.” For the most part people in their dreams appeared to be a lot more oblivious to the supernatural.
“And?” Klaus questioned licking the last drops of blood off his lips. “I’m Klaus Mikaelson,” he growled. “I’m the original hybrid! What could anyone possibly do to me?” He questioned his brother. Dreams or real life, he was still the most powerful being alive.
Finn sighed, “That doesn’t mean you have to play that role. Things can be different here.” Even as he said it, he knew that his words were likely to fall on deaf ears, but he had to at least continue trying. After all, he had no intention of giving up on his younger brother just because he did things that Finn didn’t agree with.
“I’m fine with things just the way they are,” Klaus shot back. Really, you’d think his brother would know by now there was no point trying to change him. Klaus was going to be how he wanted. Do what he wanted. Without a care in the world.
Finn honestly didn’t know what to say to that and knew that he wasn’t likely to change Klaus’ mind no matter how hard he tried, “I only worry about you.” Being the older brother meant that Finn had always tried to watch over his younger siblings and that didn’t change now that they were older. “I don’t want you to get caught.” He didn’t know what would happen if a non dreamer caught Klaus in the act.
Klaus suppressed an eye roll. “Finn, I’m the Original Hybrid. There is nothing anyone can do to me,” he relied. “And where exactly was all that concern when Mikael was beating the shit out of me?” He couldn’t keep the words out of his mouth. Killing Ansel had apparently awaken some feelings he had about the man that raised him.
This wasn’t what Finn had expected to get into tonight, but here they were, “I tried to stop him whenever I was around. You know that. I never just stood by with any of you.” Finn knew that there were many times he hadn’t been there for his brother and he felt awful about that, but it wasn’t as if he could have been in two places at once.
“You just ran off and became Esther’s little pet,” Klaus spat back. He didn’t care if Finn hadn’t stood around when he was there. There were plenty of times that he wasn’t around. And he knew the hell Mikael put Klaus through. All thanks to what his mother did with Ansel all those years ago.
Finn knew that his siblings didn’t really understand why he had decided to work for Esther, but he wasn’t about to explain himself. Especially not when Klaus was acting the way he was, “What do you want me to say, Nik? Do you want to hear how guilty I still feel for not being there to protect you from him? Because I do. And I hate him for the things he put us all through.” Whether it had been physical or mental, none of the Mikaelson children had gotten out unscathed by Mikael.
Klaus’s siblings may have thought Mikael put them through a lot. But nothing compared to what he put Klaus through. Because Klaus wasn’t his son. He was the bastard, and Mikael sure as hell made sure Klaus never felt like he was part of the family. “Perhaps you should have stuck around then.” No matter what Finn said now, nothing would make up for what Klaus had been through. What the combination of his parents and the dreams had done to him.
Finn sighed, arms crossed over his chest, “Since we can’t go back in time and change things, why don’t we try and move on.” Finn could understand Klaus being upset, but he didn’t think he’d hold it against him forever. “After all, we have an eternity and Mikael doesn’t.” Unlike in their dreams Mikael was very human.
“I have moved on!” Klaus snapped. He had found his real father. But that was information he wasn’t about to share. Besides it didn’t matter now. Ansel was dead. “Just because you’ve suddenly come back to town, doesn’t mean you know anything of my life.”
“You’re right. I don’t know anything about what you’ve been doing lately.” Finn knew that he’d missed a lot in his siblings’ lives while he’d been living in Paris and he had been trying to make up for it since he’d come back, but he knew it would take a lot to make up for it with Klaus, “But I’m trying to make up for it.”
“I’d rather you just left me alone,” Klaus replied anger still evident in his voice. “I don’t need you interfering in my life now.”
It was clear that Finn wasn’t going to get anywhere with Klaus that evening so he decided it would probably be in both of their best interests if he simply called it a night and contacted his brother in a day or two, “Alright. I’ll leave you be.” He glanced at the body of the young woman Klaus had drained before turning his gaze back to his brother, “I’ll talk to you later.” He wanted Klaus to know that this wasn’t him turning his back on him, but simply giving him the space he probably should have given him sooner instead of trying to convince him that he was there for him. Even if that were true.
