Who: Myrcella and Spencer When: Backdated to April Where: Myrcella’s home treatment room What: A new client and friend Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Completed
Myrcella always liked it when she had new clients, she was a naturally friendly person and tailored everything she did to the person she was working with. Word of mouth helped her get most of her clients though the posters she had up in some stores helped too. Some people were willing to take a chance on someone new and Myrcella wanted to ensure they didn’t regret it.
Today she had a facial and manicure to do so she had set up her manicure station and facial area so she was ready once Spencer arrived. Hearing the doorbell and Dragon’s bark she made her way to the front door, opening it with a smile, “Hi, please come in”
Dragon was wagging his tail from behind the baby gate Myrcella had set up in the doorway, she wanted to make sure he couldn’t come over and jump up people especially those not used to animals.
Spencer was in dire need of the day off. She’d been doing so much school lately, and seeking an internship to last through the end of the year was taking up a bunch of her time, too! And moving. Moving was the worst. She felt grimy and sweaty all the time. She was embarrassed by the state of her fingernails.
So a little pampering was just what the doctor ordered. She headed in for her appointment, and grinned down at the dog behind the baby gate. This place was friendly so far. “Hi. I called ahead? Spencer Hastings? Here for a facial?”
“Hi, of course. It’s nice to meet you Spencer. I’m Myrcella and that big lump is Dragon. He’s harmless” she added in reassurance, “Can I take your jacket?” she offered, “My studio is just down the hall” she explained, it wasn’t unusual for a beautician to work from home and thankfully Myrcella’s studio looked very professional. She made sure she kept it that way.
Spencer glanced over at the animal, smiling softly. Dogs were okay. They weren’t her favorite, but she didn’t hate them. And this one seemed nice enough. “Hello, Dragon.” She said, giving the animal a closed-lip smile. (Because didn’t showing teeth mean aggression? Or something.)
When Myrcella asked for her jacket, Spencer nodded and shrugged it off her shoulders. “Thank you.” She held the jacket out to the other woman, then followed her down the hall. “Also thank you for taking my appointment at such short notice. I really need this today.”
Dragon was happy enough with hearing his name and seeing a smile and he wagged his tail happily. He liked seeing the people Myrcella had to visit and had learned some were more friendly than others. He just liked everybody.
“Oh that’s not a problem at all, I was just glad I had a free spot for you” she smiled after hanging up Spencer’s coat and leading her to the treatment room. “Shall we start with the manicure first?” she asked, it was the usual way she did things but she was happy to change it should Spencer wish to have her facial first.
Spencer stretched out her shoulders and upper arms for a moment as she made her way into the room. “Sure, that’d be fine.” With a smile, she slipped into the chair to offer up her hands. “Whatever order you think is best.”
“Perfect” Myrcella said with a smile, as they sat and she took Spencer’s hands in her own, “So would you like a french manicure or were you looking for some colour?” she asked as she began working on cleaning up Spencer’s nails.
“No, a french even sounds a bit fancy,” Spencer admitted almost sheepishly. “I normally just go for a clear polish. I used to have this really bad habit of biting my nails. Though I’ve outgrown the habit, keeping them trimmed close and with clear polish has lingered.” Because it wasn’t as noticeable when she chewed on nails polished with clear polish.
Myrcella smiled, “Don’t worry a lot of my clients do the same. I can definitely sort you out with a good clear polish, I have a new one actually that strengthens your nails too so they break less easily - makes them harder to chew too” she winked.
Spencer grinned. “That sounds great. Anything to try and break me of this habit. I tried chewing gum instead, but it gave me a headache.” She offered up her other hand for Myrcella to work on the nails. They were in fairly good shape, actually, considering how much she liked to chew on them.
“It’s a hard habit to break, I weakened my thumb nail terribly by sucking my thumb well into my teens” Myrcella admitted, “But your nails look good and your skin is lovely and soft” she commented as she finished the preparation on Spencer’s hands.
“Thank you,” Spencer said, giving her a warm smile. “I’ve been taking these crazy vitamins, and I really think they’ve made my nails super strong.” She wiggled her fingers as she settled into the chair and slipped her hands into the other woman’s hands. “You’re so kind. I guess you feel a lot of hands, don’t you? You can tell when someone’s hands are really soft.”
Myrcella nodded with a grin, “All part and parcel of what I do. Some people don’t look after their skin at all so it’s nice when I see someone who cares” she replied, as she continued working on Spencer’s hands, “So what is it you do? If you don’t mind me asking” she added, always giving her clients an out should they not wish to talk.
“I’m a student,” Spencer responded, giving a smile. She would love to chat, it made the time go faster. Not that being pampered was much of a strain, but it was nice to be pampered and have a chat. “I’m studying business at UCI.”
“Oh that must get quite intense” Myrcella said, “I’ve had to learn a lot since starting my own business but I’m sure that’s nothing to the depth you go into it all. Is it always something you’ve had an interest in?” By now Myrcella was practically an expert at talking while working.
“A little bit. I think my parents have been grooming me for this for my whole life, though,” Spencer admitted with a gentle shrug of her shoulders. “So it’s not too bad. I’m sure you know a lot more than I ever will.” Spencer didn’t own her own business and wasn’t sure she wanted to.
“I’ve had a lot of help from people” Myrcella said, “But it’s been worth it, I like being my own boss and it gives me a lot of flexibility with hours and things like that” And Myrcella liked working, something her mother simply couldn’t understand.
“Hmm.” Spencer thought about it for a long moment. Being her own boss sounded really nice. She nodded. “I might have to ask you some more questions later.” A smile broke out across her lips.
“Of course, I’ll help in any way I can” Myrcella said, “It’s been a learning experience” she grinned.
