Who: Tyler and Caroline What: Caroline wakes up with a hybrid bite When: Early this morning Where: Caroline's place Ratings/Warnings: Fairly low - mentions of dying Status: Complete
Not only had Caroline seen the sire bond first hand, she was now seeing it in her dreams. It was enough that dream!her broke up with him. And then came her birthday. The first birthday she didn’t want to celebrate. She was a vampire. She was never turning a year older again. Something that hadn’t hit her yet in her waking life. But that wasn’t even the worst part. Tyler bit her, because Klaus told him to. The birthday almost ended up being her last. At least Klaus decided to save her.
Unfortunately for Caroline the cure didn’t carry over. But the bite did. She woke up sweaty, feeling as though she was slowly being crushed. “Tyler,” she breathed out weakly to her boyfriend sleeping beside her.
Caroline’s breathy call to him pierced Tyler’s sleep, and he woke up, a smile on his face. Waking up next to Caroline was something that would never get old, especially since she very rarely spent the night, or let him spend the night, when they’d been together in the dreams.
“Yeah?” he murmured, and reached for Caroline. It was only after his hand touched her skin that he realized that something was wrong. Her skin was wet with sweat, her flesh burning under his hand. He woke up quickly and turned to her. “Caroline? What’s wrong?”
“You,” Caroline began taking a breath. She was feeling pretty weak and a little dizzy. It wasn’t exactly easy for her to get her words out. “Bit me.” In the dreams, but she didn’t have the strength to explain that right now. Hopefully Tyler knew what she meant. He didn’t exactly bite in his sleep.
Tyler’s eyes widened, and for one horrifying moment, he was scared he had bitten her in his sleep. He’d never done it before, but who knew what would happen. Then, he realized that she was probably close to the dream where Klaus had made Tyler bite her. For a moment, he felt a little better, but then he realized it really didn’t make a difference how she was bit, the fact was, if she didn’t get some of Klaus’s blood, she was going to die a slow and painful death.
“We need to get you to Klaus,” he said, getting out of bed and finding his clothes. He slipped them on quickly, and went to find something for Carolinen to wear. “He’ll help us.”
“No,” Caroline said softly. She knew his blood was the cure, but she didn’t care. “I don’t want anything from him,” she managed to get out between breaths. She didn’t want to owe him. Or for Tyler to owe him. “There has to be another way.” This wasn’t Mystic Falls. There were magic users around from all different kinds of universes. Klaus couldn’t be the only option.
“There isn’t,” Tyler said. And while he didn’t know that for sure, Klaus was clearly the best option. He knew that cure would work. There was no experimenting and trying this and that, only to find out that everything failed. Besides, he didn’t know any magic users himself. He could put a call out on the Network, but… “Do you know anyone else who might be able to help us?” he asked after a moment.
Caroline was silent for a moment as she tried to think of someone. But she couldn’t. She didn’t know any witches. At least she didn’t think she did. “No,” Caroline finally said not only sounding weak, but also terrified. She didn’t want to die. But she didn’t want to owe Klaus either.
“Then it’s settled,” Tyler said, handing a pair of pyjamas he’d found to Caroline. “We’re going to Klaus. I know he’ll help you; he has to.” He knew he was repeating himself, but he had to tell himself it. No matter how evil Klaus was, he had to help Caroline. He’d always helped her in the dreams.
Caroline slowly put on the pajamas Tyler handed to her. “I don’t want you to owe him,” Caroline told Tyler once he was dressed. “I don’t want to die either,” she added the fear evident in her tone and her eyes. “I’m scared.” Tyler may believe Klaus would help her, but she wasn’t so sure.
“I already owe him,” Tyler said. Thanks to Klaus, Tyler didn’t need to transform into a werewolf every month. It was also thanks to Klaus that Tyler hadn’t needed to break his bones hundreds of times to break the sire bond. Logically, he knew Klaus had done neither of those things for Tyler’s benefit - hell, stopping him from breaking the sire bond was something that should really make Tyler angry instead of grateful - but he couldn’t control the feeling of gratitude he felt for him.
“I’m scared too,” Tyler admitted, scooping Caroline into his arms and heading toward his car. Maybe Caroline could still walk on her own, but why spread the venom quicker than it needed to be? “But it’s okay. We’ll get through this. I know we will.”
