Who: Feyre & Kira
What: Meeting up!
When: July 5th
Where: Downtown Disney
Rating: Low
Status: Complete!

Kira had been feeling pretty good the last few days. She had finally gone on that network Lily had been telling her about and it seemed to have gone really well...she met some new people, got some...well, advice on things and had even set up a few meet ups! Kira didn’t really socialize outside of her ring of friends, those that she worked with and, well, Derek. Maybe that was why she was so close to the scruffy ranger; he was the first person she had met at college that she felt comfortable around. That was a rare commodity between Kira and other people, but she was determined to try and be a bit more outgoing. It seemed to be working so far.

True to her word, Kira was waiting at the bus stop Feyre had told her she’d arrive on. It had been a long, hot day and she was wearing just a tank and some shorts. A day in costume really took it out of you! She was looking forward to getting to know this other girl and cool down with a drink.

Feyre was feeling, well, weird. She didn’t usually have patience or time for making friends. Life was hard enough, taking care of her sisters and her dad and making sure they didn’t spend what meager funds they had on frivolous things.

But she also understood that a little bit of fun and nice things was the key to not losing their minds, so maybe that’s why she was here, with her paintings, her digital tablet and her computer in a bag, since she’d started doing digital work thanks to winning that contest.

She wasn’t exactly fashionable, wearing a simple summer dress and practical shoes.

Catching the familiar face from online, Kira grinned and waved, walking over towards the girl. “Hey! Feyre? I’m Kira!” Hug? Was that too familiar? Handshake? Too weird? She went with a head nod. “Uh, hungry?”

“Fayruh,” Feyre said, since she knew her name was hard as hell to pronounce based on the spelling. The lack of a hug was appreciated, hugs were saved for family members and friends-with-benefits. “And I’m starving.”

“Oops, sorry, Fayruh,” she corrected, blushing slightly. But then again, she didn’t seem too perturbed by it. Kira lead the way through the throngs of people, her eyes darting from one security line to the other. “This way,” she said, nodding her head towards the row at the end. No one ever wanted to walk the distance for a shorter wait and Kira opened her backpack and purse for them to look through. “Thanks Dan!” She grinned and waited for Fayruh before walking through.

“Any kinda food that you want the most? They have a mexican restaurant, burgers…” Actually, that was about it. With the new renovations going on, most of the restaurants Kira had loved were closed. “Oh, and Italian!”

She was getting used to crowds, thanks to her street art, and part of her wanted to ask if Disneyland needed some kind of street artist. Kids were almost tolerable, and god could she use a full time job.

“My exposure to Mexican food is limited to Del Taco, and we did Olive Garden once when I was a kid,” Feyre said, wincing. “My dad is on disability, and I’m the only one making any money. So whatever you think is good.”

Kira glanced over at her at the explanation, thinking which might be the best choice in terms of money. “The mexican place is good,” she suggestion. “Let’s go there.” She grinned, leading the way. “What is it that you do? Is it your paintings?” Kira had noticed she had brought some stuff with her and wondered if was the artwork she had been telling her about.

Feyre nodded, “I brought some of the things I painted, and my computer since I just started doing digital work. I’m hoping maybe I can do commissions if people like it enough…”

“What kinda stuff do you like to paint? Like, people, landscapes?” Kira tried to walk as close to Feyre as she could so as not to lose her in the crowds. Summer was always the busiest time of the year and there were times Kira felt like she was toothpaste being squeezed from a tube. It wasn’t that bad today, but she still had to weave around to come back towards Feyre.

“Once we get to the restaurant, I can’t wait to see ‘em though!”

“Yes,” Feyre replied, smiling finally and not really minding the proximity. Kira was gorgeous, with an amazing face and even more amazing legs, “Usually the second thing, but I’m working on people. I’m not the best yet, but I’ve got my own style.”

“What kinda style is that?” Kira didn’t know a lot about art, but she appreciated all kinda. Maybe that’s why she loved it so much, you could see anything as a piece of art!

When they got to the restaurant, Kira opted to go to their fast service side. Not only would it be faster and cheaper, but the food was a bit better too. “This part is the best,” she said, walking up and pointing to the menu. “You get to choose what kind of entree you want, tacos, burritos, bowls, or nachos, and then you add what you want on it!” Kira always went with the carne asada nachos, extra cheese and sour cream. Alright, maybe it was a bit excessive but so good.

Kira placed her order, stepping to the side with her pick up receipt and waited for Feyre. She looked around, trying to find a shaded spot they could sit and enjoy their food.

“I’ll have to show you. I don’t have the words for it, I’m self-taught.” She was suddenly self-conscious about her ability. Feyre trailed off, studying the menu as she calculated in her head how much it would cost and how much she had to spare. “Uhm… I’ll try the nachos.”
“Oooh, good choice, those are the best!” Kira grinned as she chose the same entry and leaned against the counter, waiting for their orders to be called. “Self taught? That sounds pretty impressive!” Kira couldn’t wait to see what it was that Feyre did. It felt like the suspense was building!

Once they had their food, Kira nodded her head towards a shady area across the way. It was a planeter that had a lip to it, the perfect place to sit. Kira sat cross legged, setting her nachoes in front of her. “Alright, show me these masterpieces before I start eating these! I don’t wanna get any cheese on ‘em!”

“Okay.” Feyra pulled out the first painting. It was a picture of the night sky, though the stars were in no pattern that existed on Earth. It was based on something she’d Dreamed of. A painting she’d put on the dresser for herself, to match the paintings she’d made for her sisters.

“Wow!” Kira’s eyes grew wide as she looked at it, tilting her head from side to side. “Did you just come up with this? Or is this an actual sky you did one night?”

“It came to me in a dream,” Feyre admitted. She carefully put it back and pulled out another one. It was a stylized portrait of three women. One was clearly Feyre, and while the other two were blondee they clearly shared features. One seemed to be stern and aristocratic, and the other gentle and innocent. Feyre and how she saw her sisters.

Kira couldn’t help but sneak a nacho while Feyre got the other picture out; hey, it was easy to get to and had no cheese on one corner! Optimal snacking without having to worry about getting anything on her artwork.

She took the next one and smiled. “Is this your family?” She asked, looking between the two girls and Feyre. She found it interesting how Feyre represented herself and these other girls; it was like she could feel their difference.

“My older sisters,” She pointed them out. “Nesta, and Elain. Nesta is kind of a bitch, but then so am I.”

Kira glanced at Feyre and raised an eyebrow. She hadn’t known someone to be so upfront with their feelings on their family or themselves. Kira couldn’t fathom thinking or speaking about her family in that way, even if she entertained those feelings now and then. Hey, the pressure of arranged marriages could be a bit stifling.

“You? You think you’re a bitch?” She certainly hadn’t seemed like it as they chatted through the network! “You’re just being hard on yourself,” she brushed off.

“Yeah, you haven’t really talked to me for very long. I’m not usually this nice, I don't really have time to be. There are weeks where I’m doing odd jobs for hours and hours and not getting any sleep and I still have to listen to Nesta complain that she can’t have whatever fancy shit she wants.”

Feyre rubbed her temple, “And I’d like to buy her the fancy things. And I’d like her to actually work, but that’s too much to ask.”

Kira was surprised again at the girl’s honesty and she looked over her. “Is this a warning?” she somewhat teased, having a feeling it might have been a little bit of truth of it. Was it really a warning or just a defense mechanism. It was only their first hang out, but Kira didn’t see anything wrong with the girl. She saw a lot of talent. She looked down at the painting again, studying her style and the aesthetics.

“This store,” she said, nodding to the Wonderground, the building they were sitting in front of. “It actually sells commissioned Disney art from artists. They’re like on contract or something. This isn’t Disney, but if you were ever interested…” She let the suggestion taper off and handed her painting back to her. “You’re really talented ya know. And I think it’s sweet that you want those things for her.” Kira definitely understood that mixed feeling towards family. “You love to hate them and hate to love ‘em.”

“I don’t know. I have all of two friends.” Feyre shrugged, unable to remember the last time she’d gotten a full 8 hours sleep. She’d only recently gotten her GED and that had been hard, “So I’m not really used to this.”

She perked up a little, staring at her, “Do you think they’d like my work?”

“Well, I think you’re pretty cool and I definitely don’t see you as bitchy.” She grinned, meaning it. She nodded her head again, tucking into her nachos now that she wasn’t afraid of getting anything on her pictures. “Yeah! They’re always looking for unique styles and different takes of their characters and parks! We’ll go in when we’re done so I can show you some of my favorites!” Her’s were typically the overly cute, chibi like styles. But she was impressed with all the various designs of people’s favorite character’s she could find. She had a good Mulan collection going on at the moment.

“Do you have a favorite Disney movie? Or character?”

They had a pile of dvds that they’d picked up from thrift stores and the ones that they’d managed to grab when they’d had to move out of the house after her father lost everything, “I’ve always liked Megera and Rapunzel.”

“Oooh, good choices! Meg is obscure enough that they’d be interested in having more artwork of her! And Rapunzel is popular enough that they’d be interested in having as much of her stuff as possible!” It was a win-win situation for Feyre. “We can see if someone inside has more information on how you could get in there, if you’re interested! Otherwise you can look into getting a selling permit here in Downtown Disney! I don’t know much about that either though.” She frowned, wondering if she knew someone who could find out.

She munched on her nachos some more before she went on. “So if you’re not usually friendly, why’d you think we got on so well?”

“How are you this amazing? Looks and attitude both,” Feyre sounded envious. And there was probably more there but Feyre would be the last person to notice. “You kind of remind me of Elain. The one thing Nesta and I agree on is that Elain is the one we protect first.”

Kira blushed and hung her head. She usually got spotted for her looks, something she had tried to just get use to but compliments still seemed to surprise her. “Thanks,” she murmured, stuffing another nacho in her mouth so she didn’t have to say anything more on the subject. What did you said when someone complimented you like that?

She smiled at the bigger compliment Feyre gave her, comparing her to her sister. “So I give you the impression I need protecting?” She raised an eyebrow, teasing but didn’t doubt it. It was always one thing to believe you could handle yourself in a situation, but Kira felt like she’d probably just find a place to duck and cover.

Thank you was probably a good start! “Kind of. You just seem...the world is a horrible place filled with horrible people and people like you need protecting from it.”

Feyre shrugged helplessly.

“Thanks,” she said again, definitely taking it as a compliment. “I could use a little toughening up, I guess. Any advice?” She squinted, looking up at her.

“Stand up to people, especially when your beliefs are on the line,” Feyre responded, immediately. “Protect the people that need protecting. Maybe… experience what it’s like when you live on the bottom run. Maybe the world would be less of a shithole if the people in power knew what it was like.”

“Easier said than done,” she said because it did sound easy. Who wouldn’t stand up for what they believed in? She could! When she was making an update online. If someone were to bring it up in conversation, she might not be so outspoken. She was surprised that Feyre may have thought her to be anything BUT the bottom rung and she couldn’t help but smile. “I have a friend that says everyone should work a customer service job for two years. We’d have a completely different kinda world.”

“Well, yes.” Feyre couldn’t disagree. It was a lot easier said than done. And she was frequently too exhausted to have the energy. But then that exhaustion also meant she very rarely had any fucks to give. Anger tended to be her default state.

“I might literally end up in jail if I worked customer service for long. I already got fired once.”

Kira couldn’t help but laugh. “Really? What happened? And where from?”

Feyre winced, “I threw chicken nuggets at a customer.”

A snort escaped her, which she tried to cover with her hand. “There’s gotta be a good story behind that one. What did they do?”

“Complained that we’d given them too many nuggets!”

“Sound like great people.” She shook her head. “Well at least as an artist you don’t have to put up with that! You can just surround yourself with people who appreciate you!”

“I’m sure plenty of people have complained about art they paid for over the years,” Feyra muttered. With her luck, she’d get the worse of the worse customers.

“Well those type of people are idiots and you can chose not to cater to them.” She gave a derision nod of her head. She nodded to the food. “What do you think? Did ya like em?”

“It’s delicious.” Feyra realized she had barely tried it, picking up some chips and starting to eat. She ate like someone who spent at least a couple of days every month not eating enough.

“Good! I’m glad you like it! It’s my go to if I have some time before or after work since it’s fairly inexpensive too!” She watched a bit in awe as Feyre inhaled them. “Hungry we’re ya?”

“No,” Feyre lied. She lifted her eyes, giving Kira a teasing smile. “Maybe a little.”

Kira grinned back, feeling more at ease with Feyre than she had with anyone else. Maybe that network would be a blessing in disguise. “Do you wanna grab another?”

“Yeah, lets grab another!”
