Now that they were settled in and Maryse & Max were settled in and the latest wave of OC craziness was over, Magnus had decided that he and Alec needed to go out on a date. They hadn’t had a real date night since before they left New York and even that had been awhile ago considering Alec had spent much of the last month or so they had been there helping his mother find a place in Orange County.
Magnus had made a reservation at one of the restaurants they had gone to frequently, before they had left, then after dinner, he’d suggested they hit up a club not too far away so they were able to walk.
Alec definitely needed a touch of normalcy, or as close as he could get. Being back in the OC was nice, but he didn’t miss the odd events that tended to ravage the area on a somewhat regular basis.
Still, being out with Magnus was nice, especially in an area that they knew quite well. The club wasn’t too busy yet which Alec enjoyed. He pulled Magnus close to him, smiling, “Thanks for the date.”
Magnus returned the smile and and wrapped his arms around Alec, “You don’t need to thank me. We needed this.” Magnus didn’t mind living in the Institute, but there were times when he wanted to spend time with just Alec without getting interrupted by Isabelle or Simon. “How about we get a drink first then head out onto the dance floor.”
That was an understatement, if he’d ever heard one. The only place that had privacy was their bedroom and it was quite an adjustment when they had their own space before. Sure, Izzy and Simon weren’t always around but Alec was aware that the Institute was a shared space and couldn’t just walk around in underwear like when he and Magnus had a house. To Magnus’ suggestion, he smiled and nodded. “That sounds like a great course of action.” He leaned in to kiss Magnus on the cheek, before he pulled out some cash to get the bartender’s attention.
Magnus leaned against the bar, letting Alec get the bartender’s attention, considering his husband had been a bartender at one time, he knew the best way to get their attention. Once they had ordered and gotten their drinks, Magnus took a sip of his own, “I’ve been meaning to ask, is it strange that Jace knows nothing about the Shadow World and what we all are?” They had all been dreaming for so long now that having someone from their dreams come in who had no idea was just a little strange.
Alec took a sip of his drink and gave a small shrug. “Kinda...but at least, we’re all here to help him out when he starts dreaming about all that,” he answered. He had a brief time when he didn’t have anyone to really relate to, when he started dreaming. “Until then, we just act as normal as we can.” There were things that he wanted to tell Jace, but he’d have to wait. Otherwise, it’d be too much to process.
Magnus knew how upsetting some of Jace’s dreams had the potential to be and he was glad that he had Alec and Isabelle around to help when he did start having those dreams, “And I know you’ll do whatever you can to help him,” Magnus smiled fondly at his husband then took a sip of his drink, “Now if only Clary were here, our little group would be complete.” Sure, there were others who had come and gone throughout their dreams, but the four of them plus Clary and Simon were the core of the group.
“Well, you never know what could happen…” Alec replied before taking another drink. This place had a way of surprising its residents, in one way or another. “But how about we stop thinking about others and just enjoy our date?” he added, grabbing Magnus’ hip with his free hand and pulling him closer, smirking.
Magnus always enjoyed when Alec took control and he smirked right back at him as their bodies were pulled closer, “I think I can do that.” Leaning up, Magnus kissed Alec, tasting the alcohol on his lips. “Tonight no one else matters, but us.”
Alec indulged in the kiss, no real rush to break free from his husband. “I like the sound of that,” he replied. “How about after we finish our drinks, we get out on the dance floor?” It was nice to just focus on “right now.” And right now, Alec was happy and glad to be with his lover.
