Evie had a lot on her mind of late, and it wasn't just outrage at what was happening in America. She had issues from her dreams that she needed to work through. Honestly, she could probably use a few more weeks hunting down and eliminating terrorist cells in the Middle East. And perhaps she would take another trip shortly, but for now she was trying to get through her life. Freya's time was divided between being in Texas helping the immigrants and being here. She didn't bother her with what was on her mind, largely because Freya already knew about the dream issues in relation to Jack the Ripper. Evie didn't need to rehash them for her, so Evie was going to figure it out herself. Besides, when she did talk to Freya, she preferred to help destress her girlfriend instead of adding to her worries.
And honestly, Evie was a little worried that Freya might run herself into the ground, but she wouldn't intervene unless she caught Freya on the verge of collapsing. Evie understood the need to keep pushing until you couldn't push any further, and she understood working to help others at all costs. It was never something she'd begrudge Freya for because Evie would do the same thing. And in her own way, she did do her part to help, she just had a different method of approaching the problem.
But right now, she wasn't quite in the helping mood because her mind was clouded and her heart was heavy. Being unable to sleep, Evie had dressed in dark clothes, including a hoodie, and pulled her gauntlet on her left arm before she set out for a game of late night parkour across the city. It kept her focused and also it let her free herself as she ran and blazed a trail across the city. Eventually, she spotted a rather tall building and decided that would be good to climb and spend some time at the top contemplating things. So she leapt across rooftops until she was across the street from it, then used her zipline to cross over to the building and begin her climb to the top of it. It didn't take her long to scale the building, and she did it without any safety equipment. She didn't need it, though she did also enjoy the adrenaline rush she got of not having a safety net to catch her if she lost her grip and fell.
After reaching the top of the building, she crouched on the ledge so she could look over the city. She had the hood of her hoodie pulled over her head, and after a few seconds she more or less became invisible. Evie's talent of being able to blend in and go completely undetected by anyone save those who were within a couple feet of her. But usually if someone was that close, it was because she wanted them there so she could better kill them. Which was quite the dark thought and she frowned a bit. She definitely didn't like the thought, but it was par for the course of late.
Perhaps Jack had gone and left a permanent mark on her. Perhaps he had succeeded in twisting her and making her into a monster like he was. After all, she had plenty of blood on her hands in both lives. Her kills in the dreams had all been Templars, targets that needed to be removed before they caused too much damage. London needed to be free, so she had ensured that was the case, one Templar at a time. In this life, she'd taken life in combat when she'd been fighting in Afghanistan. And she'd killed quite a few terrorists ever since she'd started getting her Assassin abilities.
What was the actual difference between her and Jack? Killing was killing, even if done for the right reasons and even if one killed bad people. Sure, Evie had never killed an innocent person, and she knew that Jack couldn't make that claim after the trail of blood he'd left in London for her to follow. A trail of blood that led through the looking glass. A large part of her wondered if she had gotten stuck on the other side of the looking glass. It would certainly explain a lot. Her mood wasn't the best, though she did her best to make it good whenever she saw or spoke with Freya. Though she didn't know how long she could keep up appearances if she couldn't sort herself out. And she really didn't want Freya to have to worry about her while she was busy with work.
Evie sighed, looking down at her left arm. She flexed her wrist and her Hidden Blade slipped out. She gazed at it, contemplating the lives she'd taken with it. Of course, she had more weapons in her arsenal than just the Hidden Blade. But she'd never butchered someone the way Jack had butchered those women. Those murders had enraged her, and not simply because the women were Assassins, but because of the brutal nature. They hadn't deserved to die, least of all like that. And Jack had said she'd caused the last murder because of her interference.
"Bloody hell," she cursed, flexing her wrist again and the blade slid back into its hiding place. Evie turned her gaze out over the city below. Was she responsible for Jack's actions? Her rational mind knew she wasn't, and also knew if she hadn't stopped Jack, he would've only gotten more brutal in his murders. But it took a murderer to stop a murderer in this case. She could feel herself getting hard around the edges the way she had been in the dreams, but she was afraid of that. If she became the hardened woman she'd most recently dreamt of, would she lose Freya? Would she lose her humanity? She didn't have the answers, but she knew that she didn't want to lose Freya. She hated this, and needed to try and sort herself out. She just didn't know how to yet.
So for now, she'd just do what let her feel free. Evie stood up, looking at the ground far below. She stretched her arms out to the sides and took the Leap of Faith off the top of the building. She loved the rushing of wind past her ears when she free fell from buildings, the pumping of adrenaline in her system. After landing, Evie sprinted across the street and started another round of parkour through the city. Since she couldn't sleep, she'd get some activity in. She'd start with that.
