Who: Lara and Bo
What: Bo tells Lara about the half-sister in her dreams and hiring Veronica to see if she has one in this life.
When: Recently, a little bit after this
Where: Their home
Warnings: Mentions of implied rape, but otherwise family friendly

Bo hadn’t told Lara about her half-sister in her dreams, mostly because they’d had plenty of other crap to deal with. But now that she’d hired a private investigator to look into whether she had a half-sibling in this life as well, she knew she should tell Lara. Especially now that they had worked through some of the lingering issues from Bo having been stabbed.

She went in search of Lara, hoping it was a good time to talk. Though Bo was going to try and stay away from the more traumatic events of her dreams, such as Tamsin’s death, as much as possible. Neither of them needed anymore heaviness like that in their lives.

She felt lighter than she had before, though her dreams had troubled her. Not wanting to weight Bo’s heart with them, she’d kept them to herself, writing a journal she intended to show Bo, eventually.

She set it aside as Bo came into the living room, “It seems to me you’re walking with purpose.”

“Yeah, I wanted to tell you something.” She moved to sit down beside her wife. “I didn’t mention it before because I was trying to let it sink in amongst...everything else we’ve been dealing with of late. There was a revelation in my dreams, before I went all evil on you, and it eventually made me curious if it crossed over to this world since these lives tend to parallel our dreams in some ways.” It wasn’t something she’d thought to seek out until after her stab wound had actually healed. Or healed as much as it would ever heal since she still very much had the scar from the blade.

“You’re pregnant,” Lara deadpanned, slipping her hand onto Bo’s leg and smiling reassuringly. “What did you discover?”

Bo just had to chuckle a bit, shaking her head a little at Lara’s deadpan. She set her hand over Lara’s on her leg. “I have a half-sister in the dreams. Obviously Hades’ contingency plan in the event I didn’t work out.” Of course, Bo wasn’t going to let her sister be used by Hades, so she’d taken her own precautions in the matter.

Well. Lara had been close. Half-sister instead of a child, but still, she blinked in surprise. “And… does she exist here?”

And if she did, what did Bo want to do about it? Lara would support her in every way imaginable, but it was still surprising.

“I don’t know yet. After I digested that, among other things from my dreams, and saw how dream me took precautions to ensure Hades never did to her what he did to me, I had to find out. So I hired a private investigator to look into it because I’m not going anywhere near my father in this world if I can fucking help it.” Bo would definitely kill him on sight, or at least beat him to a bloody pulp for what he’d done to her mother.

“I warned the investigator about what little I know about my father here. But if I do have a half-sister, I just want to ensure she isn’t under his thumb or anything like that.”

The only thing Hades had done for them that was good had been the puppy and even that was slightly tainted by association. But Lara wasn’t going to blame the dog for that. It wasn’t her fault.

“And if she is?”

The puppy was definitely a good thing. Bo loved the dog, and she was a good dog. There had also been the research vessel for Lara, which had tipped Bo off that her father was extremely wealthy.

Though if anyone wanted to be technical, Bo was probably the best thing he had ever given them, even if the circumstances of her conception were horrible. Bo had a life because of him.

“I don’t know, I haven’t thought that far ahead. Mostly because I don’t even know if she exists here. So I’m trying not to pin my hopes on having a sibling until I know for certain.” Bo brushed a hand through her hair with a little sigh. “It was easy in the dreams because she was a newborn and I gave her to Kenzi to raise well away from the fae world. Then when she was old enough, Kenzi sent her back to me so that I could prepare her for Hades’ inevitable return.”

Lara tried not to think about her research vessel. On one hand, she loved it, on the other hand it felt dirty, tainted too. But she’d use it when it came down to it. She just hadn’t had the need to. But soon.

She had a plan soon.

“I doubt Kenzi is involved this time,” Lara mused. “But if she’s out there, we’ll find her.”

We. Not you.

“Unfortunately, she probably isn’t.” Bo sighed softly. She wasn’t even certain how old this sister could be. Younger than Bo, at least, and Bo was relatively certain that her sister was probably born from a situation similar to her own. Someone who could do what her father had done to her mother didn’t just do it to one single person, after all.

She looked at Lara and smiled. “Yes, we will. In the dreams, her name is Dagny. Kind of the polar opposite of me genetically speaking. Blonde hair and blue eyed.” She looked a lot like Tamsin, which felt like a dagger to her heart. Bo had a lot of regret over having broken Tamsin’s heart in the dreams, among other things. Tamsin had deserved so much better than what she’d gotten.

And really, Bo wished her dream self had just gotten with Tamsin and left Lauren behind for good.

That was a touchy enough subject that Lara wasn’t going to touch on it. Instead, she’d rather focus on the positive. “Dagny. Norwegian I believe. I’d have to look up what it actually means though to be able to tell you that.”

She took Bo’s hand, “We could end up growing our own family.”

There was a momentary sadness that passed over her face before Bo pushed it aside. “Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised. Dagny’s a...Valkyrie fae.” That was about as close to admitting the Tamsin connection as she really wanted to get right then.

She squeezed Lara’s hand, giving her a little smile. “We definitely could. I do like the sound of that.”

“Interesting.” That made sense, and another link to the dead. Hades, Valkyrie, Bo’s succubus powers. Lara could see any number of links, and she’d once actually traced some of them in a notebook. Death gods and those who draw and guide the dead. There’d ben a girl on the network that did that once.

“Once we find her, what do you want to do?”

There was so much death around her, even without her being a succubus and having left a trail of bodies behind her before she’d learned what she was and learned to control her powers. Sometimes it weighed on Bo, given death was her birthright, but she tried to not give into that part of her. She didn’t want to be a death-bringer.

“I don’t know. I suppose start with seeing if she’d be open to meeting us. And then, hopefully, meeting her.” She didn’t know how realistic that expectation was, but she also was assuming if she had a sister, that the sister didn’t know Bo existed. She knew it was possible that her sister may not want to meet her, if she existed here, and she had to prepare herself for that possibility.

“Are your hopes up?” Lara asked. Hopes that she existed. That she’d want to meet. That she wouldn’t already be poisoned by her father. That last thing worried Lara the most. How would Bo react if she were rejected? Or if she’d be used against them.

“I’m trying to keep them down, actually. I don’t even know if she exists here. And even if she does, I wouldn’t want her to have been a product of our father’s assholery like I was.” But if her sister wasn’t poisoned by their father? Then she could at least take that as a positive. But for now, she was trying to keep her hopes down. Probably a little unexpected given Bo liked to try and be optimistic in things, but she didn’t want to get her hopes up to be told she had no sibling.

That was a rather polite way of putting it and Lara wasn’t in the mood to point that out. Instead, she just nodded, squeezing Bo’s hand. “Keep me posted. I want to know as soon as you do.”

When it came down to it, Bo didn’t actually like bluntly stating what her father had done. She didn’t like knowing she was the product of a rape, but she liked being alive. Even so, she really wished that her adoptive parents had been her biological parents.

“I will, don’t worry. I don’t know how long it’ll take for her to get back to me about it, but you’ll be the first to know when I find out.” She squeezed Lara’s hand back, then leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“Until then,” Lara got up, then held her hands out to Bo. “Lets take the puppy for a walk.”

They needed something light and fluffy right now.

Bo looked up at Lara and couldn’t help but to laugh. “Are you a mind reader now? Because I was going to suggest that to you.” She took Lara’s hands and got up. They definitely needed something light and fluffy, and she just liked the idea of taking a walk with Lara and Fae.
