Who: Freya and Caroline
What: First meeting. Caroline makes a decision
When: Recent
Where: The Pimpernel Outreach
Warnings: Low/none
Status: Complete

Marguerite had mentioned something to Caroline about helping out those that the system failed in regards to domestic violence. Her husband’s non profit was is in the process of setting something up. Of course Caroline was interested in helping out. She decided to stop by the Pimpernel Outreach to talk to Marguerite about it some more.

Caroline entered the building with her usual smile plastered on her face. “Hi,” she said to the first person she saw. “Is Marguerite here?”

If it wasn’t one thing Freya was working on, it was another. While she and Percy had managed to set up some safe houses, they were in the process of trying to figure out furnishings. And then other aspects but they had known it wouldn’t be an instant sort of program and they needed to do this right. Especially as it wasn’t necessarily going to be completely above the board. But sometimes the right thing to do wasn’t.

So having finished up with some work for the UN, she’d gone to Pimpernel Outreach to look over some things when she was approached by someone asking for Marguerite. She looked familiar. Dreamer and…. She was pretty certain she had caught a glimpse of her in Klaus’ mind when they’d been linked in the dreams when they’d been saving Rebekah.

“Sorry, she’s not. Is there something I can help you with?”

While Freya may have recognized Caroline, the vampire had no idea who Freya was. She had barely dreamed about Klaus and what she had dreamed so far wasn’t great. He had kidnapped her and Tyler as sacrifices for some ritual. She didn’t know anything about his family in the dreams or real life.

“Maybe?” Caroline replied with a smile. “Do you work here?” She knew this new thing Percy was starting up was supposed to be secretive. She didn’t want to spill it to the wrong person. But she did assumed that other people that worked at The Pimpernel Outreach would know about it.

Freya was all too familiar with the way her family came across in the Dreams. It was hard not to, especially once their enemies kept showing up. Of course she was also protective of her family and put up with more than she should but that was neither here nor there. Instead, she just nodded some.

“I do. I’m Freya.”

Freya. Marguerite had mentioned her before. When she was talking about the safe houses. Caroline was pretty sure Freya had helped form this plan along with Percy. “I think you can,” Caroline replied her smile widening before she lowered her voice a bit. Even if they were in a safe place, a place meant to help people, you could never be too safe. “Marguerite mentioned something about safe houses to me. I’m considering offering up my place.”

Hearing what Caroline said, and grateful for the lowering of her voice given the nature of that particular comment, the blonde nodded and motioned for the vampire to follow her. Oh, Freya knew but said nothing on the matter as it wasn’t her place to nor was she concerned.

Once they were to her office, Freya closed the door and motioned for Caroline to sit.

“If you are, that would be great. But are you absolutely sure?”

Caroline followed Freya into the office, taking a seat. “I am,” Caroline replied. She hadn’t been when Marguerite first brought it up. Probably only ninety percent sure then. But after thinking about it for a few days Caroline was positive she wanted to help. “Ever since my mom-” she paused cutting herself off. Freya didn’t need to hear about her mother’s death. How lonely her house was now that her mom was gone and Tyler was no longer staying with her.

“My house is pretty big,” she said instead. “Too big for just me. I should be doing something good with the extra room.” Technically there were two free rooms but she wasn’t quite ready to have anyone in her mom’s room.

“I’m Caroline by the way,” the blonde went on realizing she hadn’t introduced herself. “You help Percy run this place, right?” or something along those lines. She couldn’t remember exactly what Marguerite had said about the woman in front of her but she knew Freya had a pretty damn important role.

Freya gave a small nod of her head. It was a big decision given the nature of what they were doing and so it would make sense that there might be some reservation. Admittedly they had just been finding places to buy that would need to be furnished, but someone who owned one of the homes wouldn’t be such a bad thing either.

“It’s nice to meet you, Caroline. But yes, I help Percy run the place. We were in university together and when we reunited after I moved back, we started talking about doing something like this. I then thought we could take it further for the women who the law had failed so here were are.”

The added benefit of using Caroline’s house with her living in it was her extra abilities. If anyone came looking Caroline not only had super speed and strength but she could also compel them away. Granted she didn’t have the best history with compulsion, strength would probably be what she used. But still. Her house would be completely safe from any abusers.

“It’s something that needs to be done,” Caroline agreed. Not that she had first hand experience. But she wasn’t completely oblivious. She knew the system failed a lot of people. “I’m glad you thought of it. And that I can help.”

Freya was definitely considering the extra abilities. While it wasn’t the only reason, she knew they could come in handy. Just in case. Still, she needed to verify given all the issues at hand. She believed in what they were building, but she knew others might have concerns. Which was one of the reasons she and Percy were keeping the circle of those in the know small.

“That we definitely agree on, it’s something that needs to be done.” And she was going to be damned if she continued to fail those who she tried to help. “I’m just happy that there seem to be people willing to help despite the certain...complications… that could arise. We’ll obviously do all we can to protect you as well.”

Caroline wasn’t worried about herself. She was more than capable of taking care of herself and whoever was in her house. And if something happened with the law? Well that was a risk Caroline was willing to take. “Thank you,” she said with a small smile. “I just want to do my part to help. Even with the risk.”

Freya returned the smile with one of her own. “Of course.”

“So,” Caroline began. It looked like they were just about done, but she wanted to be sure. “Is there anything else you need from me?”

“As of right now, there’s nothing I can think of.” After all, Freya trusted Marguerite’s judgement in people. The actress was social but she also understood the stakes and believed in the work they were doing and wouldn’t compromise it, “We’re still figuring out furnishing for places as well as finding people to help. Though if you’re okay with it, we may send people to you if a situation comes up before we have more places finalized.”

“I’m ready,” Caroline replied confidently. She meant it too. Now that she made up her mind, she was more than ready to start helping people. “Thanks, Freya,” she said already starting to stand. “Let Marguerite know I stopped by?” Though she was probably going to text Marguerite as soon as she left anyway. Let Marguerite know she was officially in.

Sometimes that was all it took, making up your mind for sure and then all the doubts and concerns left because you knew what you were doing.

“Thank you for the offer, and I’ll definitely let her know.”
