Where: Baxters Bakery 2
What: Confusion
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete
Izzy had just started restocking some of the cookies when the jingle went indicating that someone had entered the bakery, “I’ll be with you in just a minute” she called out, since the girl she had working with her at the moment was on a quick break.
Finishing loading up the cookies she put the tray on the side and then moved to stand by the register, “Hi, Welcome to Baxter’s, what can I get for you?” she smiled.
Tony Stark had been to Baxter Bakery a hundred times. Well, so he thought. Truthfully, he’d only been to each location a handful of times. So when he was passing by, he didn’t know if this was the original location or the second location. But he went in, anyway. Because either way it would mean some delicious coffee and a snack.
He smiled at the young girl behind the register, having waited somewhat patiently for her to finish whatever she was doing, and then stepped forward to order his coffee. But something was… weird. This wasn’t Merlin’s wife. … was it?
“Hi.” He said. “Coffee, please?”
Izzy recognised Tony but didn’t know him too well, she was fairly sure he had visited the other Baxters a little more. But maybe he had been in the area today. Still she gave him a smile, “Of course, how do you take it?” she asked, “And can I interest you in a little treat to go with it?”
No, this girl was definitely younger than Merlin’s wife. Tony’s brow furrowed just slightly as he considered her. She was pretty. Had he come to the wrong place? His eyes jumped to the sign above her head. This was Baxter’s Bakery, wasn’t it? Must be. He must just have a different employee.
“Oh sure. What’s good today?” He asked, putting on a charming smile. “...is… the proprietor here? Mrs. Merlin?” It was mostly meant as a joke, but he was afraid he was going to get Merlin’s wife’s name wrong.
“Well I just pulled a fresh batch of vanilla chocolate chip cookies from the oven so those should still be warm and melty” Izzy said before grinning, “Audrey actually works out of the other site we have, this is Baxters Two and I’m Izzy” she explained, “I can let her know you asked after her though” she offered.
Oh, crap. Now Tony felt a little sheepish. He was at the wrong location? How many were there? Did he know there was more than one?? He left the charming smile on his face, though, and tried not to show that he felt a little embarrassed. “Well, hello, Izzy. Thank you for passing along the message. And a vanilla chocolate chip cookie sounds like heaven.”
“You’re welcome” Izzy said as she set about getting his order together, “And don’t worry you’re not the only one to not have realised this was the other Baxter’s, it tends to happen if you’re not used to being in this area. Long meeting?” she guessed.
“Actually that’s a good guess.” Tony said, impressed. Then again, people knew who he was, they knew that he had meetings all over the place. It wasn’t much of a leap to assume that he was in a new neighborhood due to a meeting. “A meeting nearby that went over by nearly an hour and fifteen minutes. Hence the need for coffee and cookie.”
It wasn’t too hard to deduce, Izzy knew Tony was an important business man and most business men had meetings and he’d obviously been in one long enough to have been turned around when coming out so he wasn’t sure where he was. “Ouch that sounds rough” she said setting down his coffee and cookie for him before grabbing a second cookie and popping it into a bag, “That definitely deserves a free cookie for later, just to keep you going” she grinned.
Tony gave the pretty girl on the other side of the register a smile as she brought him his coffee. “I survived it.” He picked up the coffee cup and then blinked as she popped a second cookie into the bag. That was surprising. The smile on his face went brighter and more genuine. “Hey… Thanks. You didn’t have to do that.” But he’d take it, anyway. “You’re too kind.”
“Well I am glad to see you did” Izzy said with a grin, before nodding, “You’re welcome and I figure kindness is needed a little more sometimes right? If I can brighten someone’s day a little bit then why not”
“You sound just as optimistic as she is,” Tony said with a little smirk. While he appreciated that quality in his employee-and-friend’s wife, he wasn’t sure it was the kind of thing he could stomach every day. They were great people, sure. But Tony could be a bit dark and bitter. “I’m glad there are people in the world like you. It counteracts the jaded ones like me.”
Izzy laughed, “Oh I have my dark days, my boyfriend will confirm that but overall I am one of those annoyingly cheerful people” she grinned.
“The world needs annoyingly cheerful people.” Tony said, giving her one more smile. “I’ll take the coffee and cookies to go. I’ve got another meeting that I’m already an hour late for.” That was what happened when a person was Tony Stark. Meetings, meetings, meetings.
“Of course” Izzy said making sure the coffee and cookies were all set for him, “I hope that one goes quickly for you”
