Who: Leon and Liv
What: Liv's on kleptomaniac brain, Leon is not impressed
When: Today!
Where: The mall
Ratings/Warnings: Low/none. Language because Leon.
Status: Complete

Liv had a vision of Josie Wells being yelled at in the mall. So of course she dragged Leon to the mall with her. He was her partner in crime. Or rather in solving crime. Liv was determined to see if being at the mall would trigger any more visions.

“As long as we’re here,” Liv started. “We might as well do some shopping.”

Leon had been reluctant to come to the mall in the first place. Being surrounded by a hundred idiots all scrambling to buy whenever it is they were buying had never been his idea of fun. He was even less enthused when Liv suggested they go shopping.

“I should’ve known this was some ploy to get me shopping,” Leon grumbled. Zombie or not, Liv was still a woman after all. He liked shopping even less than he liked hanging out in malls; what disposable income he had normally went toward alcohol, so it wasn’t as though he had much spending money for pleasure shopping anyway.

“Come on!” Liv protested dragging Leon into the closest store. “Don’t you want to get something nice for Alex?” In fact she should probably get Dan something. He deserved it for putting up with her. She walked over to the watch display examining them.

Liv had the person behind the counter show her a few. More than one at a time. When another customer approached diverting the sales person’s attention Liv dropped one of the watches into her purse.

Leon frowned. Well, Alex did deserve something nice, probably, for putting up with Leon as long as he had. He wasn’t entirely sure about watches. Alex was a model and was surrounded by shit like this, except the stuff Alex was surrounded with was way nicer than anything Leon could afford. Hell, he’d dropped more than a hundred bucks on a shirt last month for work. But looking couldn’t hurt anything.

He hadn’t been paying that close attention, it was Liv after all, but without even being fully aware that he was doing it, his hand shot out and grabbed Liv’s wrist as it went into her purse. For a moment, he wondered why he’d done that, and then his brain caught up with his body and he realized he’d just seen her stick a fucking watch in her purse. “What the fuck are you doing, Liv?” he hissed at her.

What the hell was she doing? She hadn’t even realized what she had done. This was definitely out of character for her. No matter what brain she was on, Liv’s morals always stayed the same. She didn’t break the law. She was a good citizen. A good zombie.

“I don’t know,” Liv replied the shock evident in her tone. “How’d that get in there?”

“I don’t know Liv, you tell me,” Leon said sarcastically, because obviously Liv had put it in there. He’d caught her red handed. The clerk was coming back now, and half panicked Leon pulled the watch out of Liv’s purse, haphazardly threw the watch back onto the display, and then attempted to lean casually against the table but only managed to make himself look more guilty.

The salesperson rose an eyebrow at Leon. He clearly seemed up to something. But nothing seemed to be missing and the man knew better than to accuse his customers without real cause.

“Thanks!” Liv told the guy. “I’ll have to think about it and come back,” with that she exited the store not even bother to wait for Leon to catch up. She was too ashamed of what she had just done and wanted out of the situation.

“Sorry,” Leon muttered to the clerk, though he knew he couldn’t explain what he was apologizing for. He ran after Liv, and once he caught up to her he grabbed her shoulder. “What the hell was that?” he hissed at her. “You remember that I’m a fucking police officer, right? One that’s on duty right now.”

“I don’t know!” Liv replied raising her hands up defenselessly. “One second I was looking at watches for Dan. The next there was one in my purse. It was like my hands had a mind of their own.” It was the best way she could explain it. The whole act had been done subconsciously.

Leon stared at her, not entirely sure if she was telling the truth. But she seemed like she was. He didn’t really know how these brain things worked, but… well, this was a pain in the ass. Then his eyes fell to Liv’s purse. If she didn’t know she was doing it, he could have missed her doing it again. Without a word he reached and snatched the purse, turned his back to her, and started digging through her purse for any other stolen items that might have ~*~magically~*~ found their way in there.

“What the hell, Leon?!” Liv protested when he started going through her purse. Although really she couldn’t blame him given what Liv had just done. “I didn’t take anything else!” she said as she snatched her purse back. And then her face went blank. Or it looked like it was blank, but really she was having a vision. A pissed off store owner grabbed Josie’s purse looking through it just as Leon had done to her. The man found a bracelet in the bag and had thrown her out of the store. When Josie was kicked out Liv got a glimpse of the name of the store. Beading Hearts.

“Come on,” Liv told Leon grabbing his hand when she snapped out of it. “We have to go.”

Leon knew that look, and he crossed his arms, waiting for Liv to finish spacing out so she could keep yelling at her. And so she could tell him what she’d seen, assuming it somehow had anything at all to do with the case. When she came out of it, he opened his mouth to keep yelling at her, but then she was dragging him away. “What did you see?” he asked, pulling away his hand but walking in step with her.

“She stole from Beading Hearts and some guy kicked her out,” she told Leon as they made their way to his car. “We have to find him.” He was definitely a suspect.

Leon wasn’t sure if he could really be considered a suspect. Hell, he had every right to kick her out of his store if she was going around just throwing shit in her purse willy-nilly. But in a murder case it was important to follow up with every lead whether they they lead anywhere or not.

Leon unlocked the car doors with his keyfob and climbed into the driver’s seat. “Let’s just hope we don’t have to track down every store clerk who kicked her out of their store,” he grumbled to himself, under his breath.
