It felt good to be back on her feet. While she wasn’t recovered by any means, Nat could at least walk around. Even if it just meant taking one of the girls to get some coffee. She doubted either of them had been able to do something like Starbucks since before they’d been orphaned.
Kisha held the door for her and she nodded as she walked inside. “Do you remember what your sister wanted?”
Kisha nodded back, “Da.”
Ever since Cosima had started dating Jemma, she’d started drinking tea more often than coffee. She did drink coffee now and then, especially if she was needing to stay awake to work on a project at work or something of the sort. But today, it was getting coffee just for the sake of coffee. She’d gotten her drink and had planned to go sit outside somewhere, but she stopped as she saw a familiar redhead come inside with a girl she hadn’t seen before.
“Hey Natasha, fancy meeting you here,” Cosima said in greeting with an easy smile. Her dreadlocks were pulled into a ponytail, and she wore a burgundy color dress that fell to her mid-thigh, she had black tights, a black sweater with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, several bracelets on both wrists, though the tattoos on both of her forearms were still clearly visible. On the right forearm she had the golden ratio tattoo. On the inside of her left forearm she had a dandelion with its seeds blowing in the wind.
“Surprise surprise. For the record I’m not stalking you this time,” Natasha replied, smiling at her. Someone who knew her well might notice she moved stiffly, but she kept up appearances of normalcy.
She gestured at Kisha, “This is Kisha. She’s been staying with me and Stahma. And Kisha, this is Cosima, a friend of mine.”
“It is nice to meet you.”
“I’m definitely glad to hear that!” Cosima laughed. She hadn’t thought Natasha was stalking her, but even if she had, she never would’ve admitted to thinking it. She didn’t have a deathwish. And she knew that Natasha could kill her with a paperclip if she wanted to. Cosima did have a healthy dose of fear when it came to Natasha, but not enough that it kept her from being friendly with her as well.
She did notice the redhead moving stiffly, but she didn’t draw attention to it. Cosima knew when to ask things and when not to, despite the fact she tended to talk a lot.
“Hi Kisha, it’s nice to meet you as well. I hope that you are enjoying it here?” She asked.
Natasha wouldn’t kill Cosima. Unless Cosima hurt Jemma, and even then she’d just threaten her because she doubted Jemma would want her to kill her.
“I am. Natasha has been very kind to me and my sister.”
Even a threat from Natasha could potentially kill Cosima. Sure, Cosima had stood toe-to-toe with some bad people in her dreams, but Natasha? No one topped the Black Widow in level of scariness and lethality.
“I’m glad to hear that. She may not want it widely known, but Natasha is a good person.” Cosima was a geek, she knew her Marvel comics and movies. Sure Natasha had a rough start and she sometimes did underhanded things, but she still had her heart in the right place, and really only did bad things to the people that deserved it. Cosima was the type who believed in the good in everyone, unless they proved her otherwise, and Natasha had good in her.
Natasha put a hand to her chest like she was shocked by that accusation. “I need to amp up my villainy, obviously.”
“You should see her with girlfriend.” Kisha made a gagging sound.
Cosima laughed, shaking her head at Natasha a little before looking at Kisha. “Let me guess, she’s really mushy and cute with her girlfriend.” It was a statement, not a question. Cosima may or may not have met Stahma before, but she had it on good authority that when Natasha loved someone, she was cute and adorable about it.
“Da.”
“Shush.”
Ignoring the scolding, Kisha continued, “It is very mushy. And they are very loud.”
“Kisha!”
“I hope that it isn’t completely unbearable. And if it is, hopefully you and your sister can block it out.” Cosima glanced at Natasha. She could certainly believe that Natasha was loud. “But I’m certain both of them do treat you and your sister very well, don’t they?”
“They do. Much better than where we were before.” Kisha didn’t elaborate on that, trained too well for secrecy and not wanting people to give her strange looks anyway. She and her sisters were all much the same.
“We’re trying, anyway,” Natasha said.
“That’s definitely good. And make sure to keep both of them on their toes as well. They both need it.” Cosima said with a little wink to Kisha. She knew better than to ask about details. She figured if someone wanted her to know, they’d tell her. If this was the world of her dreams? She’d definitely be asking given her and her sisters were always suspicious of new people they met. Neolution had spies everywhere.
“Please don’t encourage her,” Natasha complained. She wondered how Logan and Neena were doing with their strays. Probably about as bad, but Nat wasn’t exactly the nurturing type. Even if she did want to try.
Cosima grinned at Natasha. “Something tells me she doesn’t need much encouragement in that respect.” Kisha looked old enough to have a bit of that teenage deviousness to her. Something told Cosima that Kisha and her sister would certainly keep Natasha on her toes.
“Thanks,” Nat remarked, though she clearly wasn’t thankful. She chose to turn the subject around, “How goes the wedding prep?”
Cosima let Natasha change the subject. It was probably for the best anyway. She didn’t want to poke Natasha too much and risk the wrath. “It’s going well so far. Felix is being our wedding planner and that’s definitely a big help.” If she and Jemma had to do it all themselves, they’d clearly be overwhelmed. Not that it wasn’t overwhelming as it was, but still.
"Is it crazy that I'm almost looking forward to this?" Natasha wasn't the kind of person to be into weddings. She'd done that once, in her dreams. It wasn't an experience she cared to have again. It hadn't been bad. It had actually been good. But that meant admitting she couldn't live without someone.
Natasha hated admitting that.
“No, I don’t think it’s crazy. Also part of why we’re having the wedding up in San Francisco to avoid Orange County crap ruining it. Also it’s easier for out extended families to get to San Francisco than it is flying into L.A. and driving here.” Cosima said. Both things had been important to consider, and it hadn’t been a very long discussion with Jemma before they’d come to that conclusion.
“Real smart thinking,” Nat agreed. She nodded at Kisha, who was waving her over for the orders. “I should let you go before she orders something she shouldn’t have.”
“We thought so. Leaves less to be explained if Orange County goes to hell during our wedding.” Cosima chuckled a little. She glanced over at Kisha and grinned back at Natasha. “Good idea. Best to not let her get completely hopped up on sugar. I’ll see you at work.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” Natasha smiled at her, then headed to stop Kisha before she ordered the entire Starbucks.
