Celaena couldn’t wait to get this cast off her leg, it was driving her insane for so many reasons. As an active girl, being sedentary for so long was a nightmare. She couldn’t dance, couldn’t spar, couldn’t...do other things, with Damian for example. She tried to keep up with whatever exercises she could, but ultimately she was pretty much stopped from doing everything that normally made her happy.
However it was coming off soon and she had some big news to look forward to. News she wanted to share with her best friend Izzy which was why she had invited her around. That and cookies. Waiting in the front room, Celaena heard the front doorbell ring and waited for Mr Thomas to bring her friend through to see her.
Izzy was hoping Damien had finally asked Cel to move in with her, she knew he’d been thinking about it and asked her for her advice. She knew her friend would love it and had encouraged it wholeheartedly.
She definitely felt sorry for Cel as soon as she entered the room, she could tell being so restricted was driving her friend insane. As it would Izzy, they were both active girls - both in and out of their dreams.
“Hey you” she smiled as she moved to press a kiss to Celaena’s cheek, “How are you doing?”
“Hey you, I’m…” Celaena stopped herself before she said she would be ok. “Bored. Bored, bored, bored!” she collapsed back against the cushions. “Oh my God! How do people not have jobs? I can’t stand just sitting around the house with no purpose!” she told her friend.
Izzy laughed gently, “I had a feeling that might be the case” she said, setting down her bag, “Honestly I have no idea how people sit around doing nothing, the novelty wears off quickly”
“So quickly!” Celaena agreed, eyeing her friend’s bag with interest. “What have you got hidden away in that bag then?” she asked, a slow grin spreading across her face.
“Cookies and things to decorate them with” Izzy said with a grin, “I thought it might be something fun to do, which doesn’t require too much movement but will hopefully not be too boring”
“Ooo! And also results in tasty goodness for us to nibble on!” Celaena grinned excitedly as she sat up on the couch. “Thank you! I can't wait for this damned thing to be off!” she told her friend sincerely, referring to the cast. “I miss being able to dance like I used to. I mean, I tried using the crutches but it's not the same,” she shrugged.
“Exactly. Work and reward” Izzy grinned before rolling her eyes at Celaena, “You know you aren’t going to improve your recovery time if you keep pushing it like that. You don’t wanna be stuck on the couch any longer than you really have to, right?”
Celaena shrugged innocently, dropping her eyes as she reached out to try and open the bag and peak in. “I know, I just...had to do something,” she sighed. “I was going crazy, I'd been messing around on YouTube and saw there were disabled people who were dancing using their crutches and stuff and I just thought,” she shrugged. “Why not try it?” she smiled cheekily. “Didn't last long to be fair, the cast is really heavy after a while,” she admitted.
Izzy handed the bag over so Cel could see the contents, she’d included the new ballerina cookie design she’d done when Cel posed for her. “Those people have been on crutches way longer than you babe, you’ll be back up and dancing soon. I know it”
“In the meantime, I’m sure these will keep me more than entertained!” Celaena grinned into the bag as she caught sight of the ballerina shaped cookie. “These came out really well! How are they doing in the shop?” she asked.
“Well I had the perfect model for them” Izzy said, “They’re selling really well, especially to the little girls who want to be ballerinas. I think cookie you has inspired quite a few little kids. We’ve got an ad up for ballet classes too on the community pinboard”
“That sounds amazing! I’m really glad they’ve done so well,” Celaena smiled to herself, wishing she’d been able to get out and about to see the bakery. “It would be awesome to see all those little kids wanting to try ballet. I’m proud of cookie-me,” she joked.
“You should be” Izzy smiled, “We’re working on some new designs right now so we might do different cookie designs for different clubs that want to get the word out, I know there’s a book group just starting up so maybe a book cookie will be next” Izzy said, she liked the idea of working like that with community groups.
“You could call it a Bookie,” Celaena joked. “That's really awesome, you must be really excited!” she grinned.
Izzy groaned, “That's a terrible joke” she said with a grin, “But yeah it's super exciting”
Biting her lip, Celaena folded the bag of cookies over and put them to one side. “Speaking of exciting…I have some news…” she said, trying to keep the smile off her face.
“Oh?” Izzy said, giving Cel a curious look, “Well don’t hold out on me, what is this exciting news?” she asked with a smile.
“You won't be able to visit me here anymore…” Celaena replied coyly, shifting in her seat as she did. “Well, unless you want to visit Mr Thomas,” she joked as she looked over her shoulder with a grin. “So um...Damian asked me to move in…” a bright grin covered her face as she told her best friend.
“That’s amazing! Oh Cel I am so pleased for you” Izzy exclaimed with a grin moving to give her friend a hug, “Tell me everything, when, where, how, I want the whole story”
“Thank you!” Celaena beamed as she hugged her friend back. “He invited me over to his place for Valentine’s day, ordered food from one of our favourite restaurants and - after we talked a bit about the accident and everything - he got all red and flustered, took my hand and asked if Fleetfoot and I wanted to move in with him,” she grinned as she remembered the night fondly. “He thought I would think I was downgrading by moving in! Guess he thought I'd expect us to have a butler or something!”
“You mean you aren’t taking Mr Thomas with you?” Izzy teased her friend with a cheeky grin, “But seriously Cel that’s brilliant. And the fact he thought of Fleetfoot too definitely means he’s a keeper”
“I contemplated it...for a nanosecond, but then I thought...it’s a lot smaller place...more of a chance we'd get...interrupted at inopportune times...” Celaena smiled wickedly. “It was so sweet that he thought of Fleetfoot, I think I fell in love with him a bit more for that,” she couldn't help the sappy look that came over her face at that.
Izzy snorted at that, “That would be awkward” she conceded before smiling, “Honestly I cannot blame you, it’s incredibly sweet. Oh Cel I am so excited for you” she clasped her friends hands and bounced a little with a grin.
“Me too!” Celaena grinned. “Can I count on you to help me move? And maybe redecorate?” she winked, squeezing her friend’s hands.
“Of course. You know I’ll help any way I can” Izzy said, “So tell me about these redecorating ideas?” she grinned as she picked up a cookie to munch on.
