Who: Alice and Kitty
What: It was just supposed to be a meeting but Alice got kidnapped!
When: This afternoon!
Where: Some cafe
Rating/Warnings: Lowish?
Status: Complete when posted
It had seemed like a good idea at the time, tracking down Alice and arranging a meeting. It took her very little time or effort to suss out that Logan was the baby daddy, not for a hacker of her skills, and she wanted to meet the poor woman.
Not that any of that was either of their faults, but still. Getting involved with Logan meant getting involved with the X-Men and that rarely ended well.
She doodled on a napkin while waiting for Alice. If nothing else, this could help her get her mind off of the accident and her residual soreness.

Alice had been a little confused when she’d gotten a message from someone saying they were a friend of Logan’s and wanted to meet her. She’d done a little looking around on the network and found out the girl seemed to be telling the truth about who she was. And they were meeting in a public place so it couldn’t be that dangerous could it?
She was half convinced that by the time June came around she was going to be on a first name basis with all of the cab drivers in Orange County. But it was knowledge that was coming in handy the more appointments and meetings she had. And yes some of the older drivers had developed something of a soft spot for her and would try to cut her a break on the fare.
It took her a moment after she got there to identify the woman she was supposed to be meeting and she made her way over there slowly, trying to make sure she didn’t bump into anyone or anything while she walked. “Kitty?” There was a little bit of hesitation in her voice as she said the name, almost as if she was afraid she’d gotten the wrong person.

Kitty looked up, then waved her hand at Alice, biting back a grimace from using her sore arm, “Hi there! You must be Alice. I’m Kitty.”
She gestured for Alice to take a seat, then offered her her hand. “So you’re the reason I get to tease Logan relentlessly. I never can resist the change to taunt him.”
***
Alice sat down, an almost relieved expression on her face that she’d guessed right. She shifted in the chair to try and find a position that was comfortable with her back and didn’t have the spawn kicking at her bladder constantly. “Why are you going to tease him over me?” She asked confusion and curiosity both obvious on her face.

“You’ve probably already discovered Logan has a softer side,” Kitty pointed out. And she gestured towards Alice’s stomach. “And you know. Things. Though if you ever want advice on raising teenagers I can help you with that. Both from being a teacher in my dreams and raising teens here.”
Kitty talked animatedly, using her hands as much as her words. She was feeling excitable today. It meant she wasn’t paying as much attention to their surroundings as she usually did - but she also didn’t really have a reason to.
Otherwise she might think that van parked outside was suspicious.

“I’ve gotten a few glimpses of it.” Alice said, a little smile on her face before adding. “Not exactly a planned thing but - yeah. It’s definitely not something that could be hidden even if I wanted to.” She gave Kitty a curious look before speaking. “You don’t look old enough to have teenage kids. And I’m a little more concerned right now with how to deal with a baby than a teenager.” She licked her lips and ordered a glass of water when the waiter came to ask if she wanted a drink.
“Caffeine is on my list of things I miss right now. I have to ask - why did you want to meet me?”
***
“I’m definitely not old enough. My late wife had twin siblings and I became their guardian after she passed away.” There was a time when she couldn’t think about Xi’an, let alone talk about her, without feeling her insides compress. It had gotten easier with time.
“Logan is a good friend of mine. Kind of like a mentor. I figured we should meet, and you probably need to be clued in on what it means to … “ Well Alice wasn’t dating Logan, but she was having his baby. Close enough. “Hang around him.”
The door burst open just then, a small object rolling in. It exploded in a flash of light and Kitty felt something like a wave rush through her. It made her dizzy, the world spinning as she tried to get to her feet. She saw armed men, and recognized the symbol on their uniforms, “Alice, run!”
***
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bring up something that might be painful.” Alice said, her sincerity obvious in her voice. Sometimes her curiosity got the best of her and so did her tendency to just say whatever popped into her mind without thinking about consequences.
She was about to ask what Kitty meant about her needing to be clued in but before she could there was an explosion and Kitty was telling her to run. But the warning came too late with how slow Alice was moving these days. How carefully and whatever had been in that explosion was making her head swim. She tried though. She tried to do what she’d been told but she only made it a few steps before her knees gave out. The last thing she saw was someone in a uniform reaching for her before her eyes closed, passing out as the drug worked through her system.

The world swam around Kitty as she finally climbed to her feet. Her hand clasped onto a knife from the table. It was a butter knife, but she threw it hard enough that it stuck in one of the soldier’s arms. He responded by lifting his weapon. She was still too disoriented to use her powers, so she just stared at him. So this is how she was going to die?
Something purple streaked through the air, spewing fire as it slammed into the soldier. The shot went off, pain blossoming through Kitty’s thigh. She took a step and collapsed.
With her ears still ringing, and the world moving in a kind of wave, she watched someone pick Alice up. They started to move towards her, but Lockheed kept divebombing them, so they retreated. She tried to crawl after them, then passed out.
