Anakin's smile stayed for a bit more and he laughed but both faded quickly, awkwardly into a silence that rivaled for awkward supremacy.
"Uh," he started to say. "So this... has been... weir-"
He felt a pat on his back as David came up beside him. "I see you've met Anakin here," David addressed Padme with a smile. David was gregarious, like a salesman, which made him perfect to lead this project of the charity division of Boeing. "He's one of our newer aeronautic engineers, we're so lucky to have him. You know, he's actually permanently assigned to another division, but he keeps blowing through the work his team gives him. So his lead called me and asked if I could use him a few hours a week, get him out of their hair! And boy could we ever."
David's arm was still resting around Anakin's shoulders, much to Anakin's discomfort, but he was grimacing through it. But before he could say anything to fix the situation, David continued talking. The same energy that made the man propel the project forward did have its faults.
"Say," he was still addressing Padme. "You weren't here when we took everyone else on a tour to see the air craft we'll be using for the humanitarian aid drops." He pointed between Anakin and Padme and his finger came to a stop on Anakin. "Why don't you take Ms. Amidala back and show her what we'll be working with?" He was looking at Padme again. "You'll be impressed, I know it."
