Damian had been trying to decide the perfect way to ask Celaena to move in with him for weeks now. He’d asked Isabelle for help and while she’s had some good ideas, he just didn’t think they’d work out. So instead of doing any of the thing she’s suggested, he’s simply invited Celaena over for dinner. Damian didn’t really cook anything too elaborate so he had ordered meals from one of their favorite restaurants and had then warming in the oven so that they would be hot when Celaena got there.
Mr Thomas had been ever so attentive since the building collapsed on Celaena, helping her get used to the crutches, bringing her meals and medication. So when she had asked to go over to Damian’s he had helped her down the hallway, into the car, driven her to Damian’s place and helped her out with the assurance he would return and pick her up whenever she wanted. He even waited until she was knocking on the door and the door opened to reveal her beautiful Damian. “Hey babe,” she smiled up at him and leant forward to press a quick kiss to his cheek before turning to wave at Mr Thomas and watching him drive off.
Hearing the knock, Damian went straight to the door, not wanting to leave her waiting long since she was still in a cast. When she had texted him that her studio had collapsed on her a few weeks earlier, it was one of the scariest messages he’d ever gotten. The thought that something could have happened to her before he got there was terrifying. Luckily Isabelle had also showed up and they had gotten her out of there pretty quickly.
Opening the door, he smiled and waved to her butler as well then helped her in, “Hey. You look gorgeous,” He smiled and closed the door once she was inside. He had flowers for her in the kitchen as well as chocolates, “Are you hungry?”
Celaena gave him a little smile at his compliment. She didn’t feel all that great lately to be honest, not her normal perfectly put together self at any rate. The pain medication she was on made her feel sluggish and ambivalent, so her hair wasn’t perfectly styled, nor her make-up applied beyond her foundation and some eye liner.
The medication had also made her feel less hungry, although that could have been a reflection of how little exercise she was getting now, compared to dancing everyday. Once things had settled down she would have to try and keep up with some stretches. “Yeah, I could eat,” she shrugged as she hopped into the house on her crutches. “Thanks for this, I really needed to get out of the house for a while,” she sighed and closed her eyes briefly.
The entire time they’d been together Damian had never seen Celaena like this, but he understood the reason and was being as supportive as he could be. “Of course. I figured it’d be easier to have a night in.” He said as they went into the kitchen, “Can you have wine or will it mess with your meds? I have soda and juice if you can’t have the wine.”
“A night in with you sounds amazing, thank you babe,” Celaena smiled at him as she watched him move about the kitchen. “I should probably avoid the alcohol unfortunately,” she sighed. “But a coke would be great if you've got one?” she hopped along to stand and watch what he was doing as he bustled around the kitchen. “Are you Ok? What did I miss?”
“One coke coming up,” Damian didn’t drink soda a lot, but he kept a couple of cans in the fridge for when he got a craving for one. Getting a can, he opened it and poured it into a glass then brought it to Celaena, “I’m fine. Just want to make sure you’re alright.” He smiled and set the glass down in front of her then went to the oven and turned it off before taking their food out, “I was going to order chinese, but then I thought that I’d go one step further and order from one of your favorite restaurants instead.” While he’d been waiting for Celaena, he’d taken the food out of its styrofoam containers and put it on a tray to stay warm.
Celaena smiled at him, probably looking incredibly dopey and loved up as she did so. “Thank you babe, you're the best,” she told him, watching the very domestic looking scene in front of her. “I'm really fine, just a bit doped up and sluggish from the meds,” she tried to reassure him with a bright smile.
“Well, considering a building fell on you, you’re lucky that you’re just a little doped up.” Damian said as he finished setting their food out, “You have no idea how scared I was when you texted me that day.” He looked across the table at Celaena as he settled in.
Celaena smiled at him sadly as he spoke, sitting at the table next to him. “I’m sorry,” she replied quietly. “It’s different, isn't it,” she said, gaze drifting off to the distance. “To fighting I mean.” she said, realising she probably wasn't being clear for him. “We both know the stakes when we're fighting. Together. It's in our control, but this was...different,” she shrugged. “I was so alone down there, I just wanted to be with you. And with Iz and Rey,” she told him. “I didn't want to die alone.”
Damian nodded and reached over for Celaena’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “It is, but we’re both okay and that’s all that really matters.” He watched her for a moment before speaking again, “Hey, so there’s something I wanted to ask you.”
Celaena linked her fingers with Damian’s and stroked her thumb across the back of his hand. “Sure, what is it?” she smiled up at him.
“So, I was wondering if maybe you and Fleetfoot would like to move in with me.” He had made sure to mention her dog so that Celaena would know that she was included in this and that he wasn’t about to make the dog stay behind.
Celaena gaped at him for a few seconds, making sure she'd heard him correctly. “You want me to move in?” she asked quietly, elation spreading through her at the thought. Her eyes started to feel watery as she looked at him. “You want me to move in,” she repeated happily, more of a statement this time as a bright smile spread across her face and a tear rolled down her cheek.”God yes Damian! Yes!” she beamed at him before trying to reach over the corner of the table and kiss him, her cast hindering her, otherwise she would have launched herself at him and straddled him in his seat.
Relieved by her response, Damian laughed and got up to make it easier for them to kiss. “I’ll admit, I was a little worried you’d say no cause you’d be downgrading a little bit after all.” Damian’s condo was definitely smaller than Celaena’s house and there would be no butlers at his house, but clearly she didn’t mind that at all.
“Damian, living with you is anything but a downgrade,” Celaena grinned at him, holding his face between her hands. “I was beginning to think you’d never ask, but now you have, I couldn't be happier!” she told him, tears on her cheeks as she leaned in to thoroughly kiss him again.
