Stefan realized he hadn’t properly congratulated Jeremy on his engagement to Myrcella. He decided to deliver a bottle of champagne to the happy couple. Besides, it gave him a distraction from his own troubles to enjoy someone else’s happiness briefly. He drove over to his friend’s place, and brought the bottle to the front door. Then he gave a knock.
Jeremy had never really hung out much with Stefan until the last couple of years. It made sense of course; Stefan was a couple of years older than him and they hadn’t been in school at the same time unlike in the dreams, but now, sharing dreams and the craziness that the OC threw at them, it made sense that they had gotten closer over the last few years.
All things considered though, he hadn’t expected Stefan to stop by, especially since he knew that Stefan was going through a breakup. Jeremy had just come in from walking Dragon on the beach when he heard the knock on the door and figuring that Myrcella was with a client in the garage turned salon, he hurried to the door and upon seeing Stefan through the peephole, he pulled the door open, Dragon barking in excitement at a new arrival, “Hey, what’s up?”
When Jeremy pulled the door open, Stefan smiled brightly. It was good to see Elena’s kid brother doing so well with his life. They hadn’t been close when they were younger, but now they were developing a good friendship. Stefan liked that. “Hey.” Stefan held up the bottle of champagne. “I hear congratulations are in order.”
Jeremy smiled and moved aside to let Stefan in, grabbing Dragon’s collar when he tried to get past, “Thanks, Stefan. Come on in.” He had heard that Stefan was going through a breakup so he was surprised that he would have come over to congratulate him on his engagement. “How’re you doing? I heard about Bubbles. I’m sorry.” Jeremy maybe have been in a relationship for awhile in the waking world, but he’d had his fair share of bad luck with girlfriends in the dreams.
“Thanks.” Stefan offered up the bottle as he moved through the doorway, saying a quick hello to the dog on his way. Animals seemed to recognize the killer in him, and kept their distance for the most part. Stefan let the dog have his space. “...thanks for that, too. I mean… it’s hard. But it makes me miss my friends. I realize I’ve had Bubbles-vision for a while. Thought it was time to catch up.”
Unlike other dogs, Dragon didn’t seem to care that there was anything different about Stefan and as Jeremy let go of his collar to take the bottle, the Boxer began sniffing at Stefan and yapping and generally demanded attention, “Well, I’m around if you ever want to hang out or anything. When I’m not in class or work of course.” Jeremy felt bad for Stefan and Tyler as well considering with Bubbles leaving that meant Blossom had gone too so that made two of his friends who were dealing with breakups.
Stefan appreciated that Dragon seemed to still enjoy his company. Then again, Stefan didn’t know Dragon before his change, so perhaps the dog simply thought that was how Stefan smelled? In either case, the vampire gave a soft chuckle and reached down to scratch the boxer behind its ears.
“Yeah, absolutely. And I want to hear all about your wedding plans. Big stuff, isn’t it?” Stefan said, offering up the bottle. “Let me know if there’s anything I can help with.” Sure, he offered, but Stefan knew that wedding planning was mostly a girl thing.
Dragon loved the attention and any time Stefan stopped, the dog would but his head against Stefan’s hand, “He’s never gonna let you stop now.” Jeremy chuckled and gestured towards the couch for Stefan to have a seat, “And he don’t really have any plans yet. We’ve mostly just talked about a few things, but nothing set in stone yet. And I’ll remember that you said that.” They weren’t in any real hurry to get married so it would probably be a little while still before they announced any plans to their friends.
Stefan didn’t mind petting the dog. There was something soothing about it. He didn’t dare keep animals around his place for fear something horrible might happen, but he could appreciate them at other people’s houses. He sat on the sofa when Jeremy offered up the seat, and shrugged his shoulders.
“It’s mostly just nodding to whatever your fiance wants to do, and picking up the slack wherever she needs it.” Just take the stress off of her, for the most part. That was how Stefan perceived these things, anyway. “Do you have a date set?”
Jeremy laughed and nodded, “Oh I’m sure Myrcella’s mom is gonna have a lot of ideas that she’ll try to force on us.” He was pretty sure that Cersei was already making wedding plans. Wedding plans that they were going to have to turn down, because it Cersei planned their wedding it could probably be a huge over the top thing that they didn’t really want, “Not yet. We’ll probably figure that out soonish though.”
Stefan didn’t know Myrcella’s mom. Actually, he barely knew Myrcella. That was something he should probably fix--he wanted to get to know his friends’ significant others and the like. And Myrcella seemed like a really nice girl. Stefan liked what he knew of her so far.
“That’s the first question everyone’s going to be asking, I think.” Stefan added. “Not that I have a whole lot of experience with these kinds of things, but it seems like that’s the first thing that everyone will want to know. When to clear their schedules.”
“I guess we’ll have to figure that out soon then,” He knew it wouldn’t be for a while, but it was definitely something they would have to start talking about, “It’s either gonna be that or they’re gonna ask how I proposed and if Myrcella knew.” That seemed to be the other question that people asked first when someone got engaged.
“I’m sure you’ll be fine. It’s supposed to be about the two of you, anyway.” Stefan gave his friend a warm smile. Well, about as warm as the vampire got, anyway. “That’s definitely another thing people will ask. I suppose this is your opportunity to relay the story once more.”
Jeremy laughed and scratched Dragon’s head as the dog came over and put his head on Jeremy’s thigh, “I guess this will be good practice for that.” So far he hadn’t really been asked how he’d proposed, but he was sure he’d get it a lot in the coming months, “She had no idea I was going to ask. I decided to do it on Christmas morning.”
