Who: Weiss, Finn and Rey When: Valentine’s Day Where: The Mall What: Weiss gets hit by Yondu’s Cupid’s arrow and falls in love with Finn. Finn flees in terror. Rating/Warnings: Low Status: Complete
Valentine's day, Weiss had decided, was a day for simpering fools that had only been created to keep greeting card and candy companies in business after the holidays. It had never been celebrated in her household, and she had no reason to believe she'd ever celebrate it now that she'd moved out. Love was for children, after all.
It was, however, fun to walk around busy shopping areas on the day of and watch as people scrambled to and fro, picking up all of those last minute flowers and chocolates. Weiss liked any excuse to get out of the house, really, especially after the apocalypse. It was a nice place, but definitely not to her tastes, and reminded her of home in a way that was just this side of suffocating. She barely understood why.
A few bags were draped over her arm and she was just considering stopping at a coffee shop when something odd whisked through her, leaving a glowing trail of pink behind her. She blinked her eyes as it trailed away and checked herself for injury, but there was nothing left in its wake at all. "That's odd," she said to herself, before shrugging a shoulder and turning a corner.
Rather, turning a corner and nearly bumping right into John Boyega. That had to be him, right?! Weiss gasped and flailed, forcing herself to come to a quick stop so as not to run him over. Her heart was racing in a way that reminded her of how nervous she'd felt before her first recital. "Oh my goodness! Are you John Boyega!? I am so sorry about nearly running you over."
Apologies weren't normally her thing, but she just loved him too much not to take the blame.
Finn was getting last minute preparations done for his dinner date with Rey. He'd actually planned out most of it in time but had decided on a whim to surprise her at the Falcon with even more fresh flowers than he'd already ordered. This meant having to brave the crowds of mostly men scrambling through drug store card aisles (he wanted a card to go with it) and nearly getting into a fight with another dude over one of the last good looking bouquets at the florist. As he walked down the busy sidewalk he swore to himself he'd never do something like this again. It was at this point of thought that his head snapped up at a bustle of sudden movement in front of him; a young woman - teenager even? - had stopped short and was flailing. And calling him by his facetwin’s name. He blinked dumbly for a moment. He didn't know what to do. This had been the first time anyone had literally thought he was the actor and not the real Finn.
“Um. Yes. Yes...I am John Boyega. That's me. And it's all right. Still in one piece.” He grinned, spreading his hands (one clutching the flowers) to demonstrate. He didn't even bother with the British accent, which he knew he couldn't fake if he tried.
"I'm not normally supposed to say things like this, but you are my absolute favorite. Your red carpet looks are always SO stunning. Do you make those choices yourself? Of course you do, they're always unique and well put together... you have such an impeccable eye when it comes to color combinations!" Weiss rambled on, blocking his path without realising it. She fumbled around for her purse and started unzipping some of the pockets, "I just know I had a pen and paper in here somewhere... My goodness, look at these beautiful flowers!"
They were gorgeous and for some reason, Weiss was convinced that he'd gotten them for her. "We've only just met, it's so sudden!" But she didn't mind at all, and went back to pulling out a pen and paper. "Of course you just have to give me your autograph, and your phone number... I need to be able to text you!"
“Oh...well...thanks.” he said, playing at being humble, rubbing the back of his neck with a hand. “Oh well, y'know, just kinda born with a good eye...you know? Just one of those things.” Finn really didn't know what she was talking about and he hoped this wouldn't last much longer, he didn't want other people noticing and then also coming up to him. But then she was digging through her purse and - she thought the flowers were for her?! Finn looked at them and then at her and pulled the flowers behind his back. There was no way in hell he was giving these up; they were for Rey and Rey alone.
But now this woman was holding a pen and paper and how was he going to sign it? He floundered for a moment then tucked the flowers carefully under his arm. He took the paper and holding it in his palm tried to sign it with his other, faking an autograph he'd never seen. “There you go.” And after a beat he said, “May the Force be with you.” And flashing her a smile he took the flowers and started to try to walk around her to get to the parking lot. He knew some Star Wars fans could be pretty hardcore, and hoped that this would be enough.
Weiss snatched the paper out of his hand and hugged it to her chest for a few brief moments, long enough for Finn to start putting a small amount distance between them. Of course, there was no way that he was actually John Boyega, and if she'd been in her right mind she would have realised it. The lack of british accent, the different way he stood and carried himself. But at the moment, she was absolutely convinced of who he was, and also that she was insanely and deeply in love with him.
She opened her eyes and, realising that he was walking away, started following him. "Wait! You're leaving without me! And you're clearly taking the flowers with you, why would you do that? I know it's so sudden, but I meant to accept them!"
“You what?” he said, still walking, trying to pick up the pace a little. This was not happening, no way. He knew it was Valentine’s Day but c’mon, he did not need a stalker right now.
Or ever, really.
“These are for my girlfriend.” he said firmly, glancing over at the young woman who was trying to keep up with him. He tried to remember the name of the actress that played Rey. “Um, Daisy. Ridley. These,” he lifted the flowers, “Are for her.” He started power walking towards the parking lot, which was a hot mess of cars circling like buzzards for parking.
Never in a million years would Weiss have normally been a stalker, but today something in her had put all reason aside. Her ears were functioning perfectly, though, and what she thought she was hearing was a rejection, but that couldn't possibly be true. There was an obvious spark between them! How could he deny their love?
And Daisy!?. "THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!" Weiss shouted after him, picking up the pace to the point that she was nearly running after him. Another thing that she normally would never have done, breaking a sweat, but for True Love anything was possible! "You and Daisy are NOT meant to be, you can do so much better than her! I'M a diamond model, an heiress! Look at me, how can you deny our feelings!?"
Finn was quietly freaking out inside. He didn’t know how to handle attention from women to begin with, let alone one that was clearly crazy. He wished Rey was here so she could use the Force on this woman somehow. Toss her or do a Jedi Mind trick or something.
He realized looking at all the cars that while he might be able to get into his, he wouldn’t be getting anywhere fast and she would still be stalking him, probably trying to talk through the window between them. She could smash the window and try to get in. Then he’d have nowhere to go, and Finn wasn’t fond of using any of his Navy SEAL training on subduing a crazy woman.
So he opted for Plan B. He’d walk to Rey’s. The store hadn’t been far from her place anyway. Powerwalking furiously he glanced behind him as the woman shouted at him. “Look, I'm really sorry but I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I gotta go.” And he started to jog, weaving through crowds of people to try to lose her.
"You're just going to LEAVE me?! How unbelievably rude!" Weiss shouted after him, trying to keep up. It was as if the entire fabric of life and death rested on whether or not she could be with this man, who she was still certain was John Boyega. Her hand still clutched onto the autograph, and she started rudely barreling through the crowd, shoulder checking people in her way. "Move! Out of my way! You're blocking me from True Love and this is unacceptable!"
He definitely wasn't successful in losing his tail, and the persistent stalker woman emerged from one crowd after another, looking more and more annoyed. "We're meant to be! Are you running back to HER, is that it? Daisy will never love you like I do!"
Oh God. He needed to shake her. Finn burst out into a full on run, hoping to God the flowers made it through all this. “Outta the way!” He blurted at people staring at their cell phones or couples walking slowly down the sidewalk. He nearly collided with one couple, just clipping the guy on the shoulder. He let out a loud 'hey!’ and Finn apologized as he ran, “Sorry!” Ducking into a store he ran pell mell down the aisles and then out the rear exit door. Not even glancing back, chest heaving, he ducked into a Walmart and ran for the back. Sliding to a stop behind a big display for kids clothes he sat there, panting. No one was really shopping in the kids section, so he glanced around the corners to see if the stalker was there. With no sign of her after he counted a full thirty seconds, he pulled out his phone and whispered into the phone, “Hey Google, call Rey.” It answered him louder than he anticipated and he winced and peered around his hiding spot to see if he was still being followed. He was in the clear, for now. When she picked up he blurted, “Rey! Thank God. Listen, I was heading over when I ran into, or actually she ran into me and started babbling and pulling out a paper and pen..." He shook his head. "Look. Some crazy fangirl is chasing me. I think I've lost her for now. But she's convinced I'm John Boyega!" As the conversation went on, he realized the only way he'd truly escape and allow the young woman to remain unharmed by Rey was if they escaped on the Falcon. Would she be able to get it ready in time?
Finn was safe inside the Walmart, as Weiss ran up to the curb outside of it and then stopped short. Her love was nowhere to be seen, and there was no way that he'd have disappeared into the dregs of such a low-class purveyor of wares. She certainly wasn't going to set foot in there, no matter who had gone inside, but Weiss was absolutely certain that John Boyega couldn't have gone in there. Her eyes scanned the other nearby stores for any sign of him, and instead caught on a street vendor selling fluffy bears with hearts for eyes and chocolates.
"THATS IT!!" She exclaimed, stomping over to the vendor. "If he can't admit we're meant to be together, I'll simply have to BUY his affections!" She said, while pulling a fifty dollar bill out of her purse. The shopping bags hanging from her arms were soon stuffed with a collection of plushes and chocolates, and she tucked a bouquet of red roses under her arm.
"As soon as he makes himself known, sneaky man. YOU WON'T HIDE FROM ME FOREVER, YOU BEAUTIFUL MAN!" She called out, pacing the sidewalk. There was no way he could have gotten that far away from her. He simply had to be in one of the stores, and she was prepared to wait.
Finn hung up the phone once he was done coordinating with Rey. He stood up and carefully made his way to the front of the store, making sure to stay hidden behind clothing racks or displays in case his stalker was wandering the aisles. Pausing a moment to collect himself, he took a deep breath and muttered, “Alright Finn, just pretend you’re running from the First Order. You’ve done it before, you can do it again.” And he took off, sprinting out of the store, through the doors that barely whisked open in time and as he turned to head towards the nearby park - ran smack into Weiss. They tumbled in a jumble of arms and legs and teddy bears and bags. Finn swore under his breath, stunned a moment, and tried to disentangle himself.
"Yes! I knew this would work out! Was it the teddy bears or the chocolates?" Weiss asked, from her position laying flat on the sidewalk. Her cheeks were flushed and her skin was buzzing with energy - or maybe from the impact, but Weiss had decided that it was the contact of their bodies together, because that was a nicer thought. The flowers had fallen to the pavement in the collision and she picked them up in her hands, "They're so gorgeous, my favorite! I think we should have a spring wedding, don't you agree? Wedding colors in Spring and Summer are always superlative. We could have it out in one of the gardens!"
She hugged the flowers against her chest, "We're going to be so happy!"
“W-wedding?” Finn stammered, as if he hadn't heard right, even though he had. Clearly she was okay, though he wished some sense had been knocked into her. He slowly got to his feet, and resisted the urge to be a gentleman and offer her a hand up, for fear she'd grab him and never let go.
Then he heard it. The unmistakable sound only the Millennium Falcon's engines could make. They were screaming across the sky and would be by the park in seconds. “Gotta go! Sorry about the...nevermind.” And he took off. He wished he hadn't dropped the flowers that Weiss now clutched. They'd cost a fortune and he'd really wanted to surprise Rey with them.
Was that the sound of... a jet landing? Weiss knew there were no nearby airports, and was momentarily stunned by the roaring of the Falcon's engines. The relief that brought to Finn was all too brief, however, as she was soon back on her feet. Not even minding the shopping bags and other possessions that had gotten scattered on the street, Weiss hopped to her feet and started chasing after him, wielding the flowers in a grip that suddenly felt hauntingly familiar, though she'd have to puzzle about that later.
Right now, it was time to once again chase her quarry. "BUT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER!" She shouted after him.
Rey primed the Falcon for take-off, getting out of her seat and rushing to the cargo hold to lower the ramp. She didn’t see Finn yet, or whoever was chasing him. Unfortunately for Weiss, Rey wasn’t someone who shared well.
Finn rounded the corner from the shopping mall into the park, running for his life, arms flailing, as if the entire First Order were after him. Relief washed over him as he caught sight of the Falcon in the park. “REYYY!” he yelled at the top of his lungs. He was vaguely aware that park goers were taking snapshots with their cell phones, inching closer and pointing at him as he sprinted across the grass, Weiss hot on his trail. “LOWER THE RAMP, REY! LOWER IT NOW!”
"COME BACK HERE, CRETIN! STOP PLAYING HARD TO GET!" Weiss continued to shout, speeding after him and into the park, knocking tourists to one side or the other to get them out of her way. The flowers in her hand flailed back and forth at him, as if they'd somehow flag him down or possibly beat him into submission if only they could close the distance.
The sight of the Falcon didn't even sway her, nor did the fact that the man was shouting for 'Rey' instead of 'Daisy'. "DON'T YOU GET ON THAT SPACESHIP WITH HER! SHE DOESN'T LOVE YOU LIKE I DO!"
“I don’t lo…” Rey scowled, drawing her blaster and firing it at the ground in front of Weiss. “Leave him alone, you creepy girl!”
She fired a couple of more times, then reached out with her hand, and the Force, fully intending on dragging Finn into the Falcon with her power.
Finn instinctively flinched at the blaster shots as they sizzled past him. “What are you doing?!” He wanted to be rescued but blasting the poor woman? He didn't have time to slow down though, lest Weiss get her hands on him and things get really ugly. He knew how strong Rey's powers were, or had an idea anyway. Weiss didn't want to find that out the hard way, he was sure.
And then suddenly he felt it and knew he was about to experience it himself: an invisible force suddenly gripped his person, lifting him off the ground a few inches and reeling him in - no, dragging him - across the distance between himself and Rey. It was so sudden and fierce he elicited a terrified “Whoa! Whoawhoaw hoa!” as he floated up the ramp and stumbled into Rey's arms as the Force released him. “What..what was…” Finn was so startled all he could do was gape at Rey and hold onto her. Finally looking back he saw an undeterred Weiss waving his flowers at him as if admonishing him. “Hey! Those were for her!” he yelled angrily. “You better hand those over or else!”
"HOW DARE YOU SHOOT AT ME YOU WHORE!" Weiss shouted at Ray, dancing backwards away from the blasts, though she was otherwise undeterred. It should have been terrifying being shot at like that, but the magic of the arrow was just too strong, and whatever compelled her to act that way was still active. "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"
The flowers she still had in her hand remained in her grip, and she could barely hear Finn's words over the engines of the Falcon. Did it sound like he was asking for the flowers back? She couldn't be sure, but she was absolutely not letting go of them.
“Did she just call me a whore?!” Rey looked at Finn, her mouth agape. She reached for her lightsaber as she stepped towards the ramp, with every intention of dropping down and challenging the bitch to a duel. “I’m going to kill her.”
Okay this was definitely not good. Finn had seen the movie and the parts where Rey had kicked Kylo Ren’s ass (he'd been out for the count at that point in the dreams so their duel had been news to him) and he was well aware of what Rey was capable of with a lightsaber in her hands. “Nononono!” Finn scrambled to hold Rey back. He stepped in front of her, blocking her path and hopefully Weiss from her line of sight. “Rey...Rey listen to me. She's just some crazy super fan. No need to go all slice and dice. You rescued me, she can't get to us, and I love you. Plus,” he glanced over his shoulder at the now huge crowd of spectators all tapping away with their smartphones “You’re on camera.”
Weiss was unable to entirely understand what was going on anymore. There was a crowd gathering all around them, there was a spaceship, the man of her dreams was putting himself between her and a woman with a - was that a lightsaber? She knew John Boyega acted in the Star Wars films but it was suddenly all a bit too much. She clearly heard the terms 'slice and dice', which was... rather off putting, all told, and then her ears caught the words 'on camera'.
"OH. Oh. Ohhhhhh." Weiss said as if finally realising what was going on. "All of this must be some kind of publicity stunt. No wonder he keeps running away from me. It's probably for the next movie. NEXT TIME TELL ME THAT YOU'RE WORKING AND I'LL CALL YOU LATER!"
She still didn't have his number, but fortunately for all parties involved she'd completely forgotten that.
“Can I just cut her?” Rey asked, giving Finn her best pout. “Just a little bit? A finger maybe?”
She wasn’t normally possessive like this, but these were extraordinary circumstances and she was letting her temper get the better of her.
“Nooo,” Finn intoned, giving her a concerned look as he placed both hands on her shoulders and looked her square in the eyes. It was starting to sound like the Dark Side was doing the talking. Or Rey had a possessive streak he didn't know she had. “How about we close the ramp and get out of here. Maybe chill out in orbit, hm? That sound good?” He was still annoyed he'd lost the card and flowers during this whole crazy chase. Now he had nothing to give her besides the flowers and chocolates that should have arrived earlier in the day.
Rey narrowed her eyes at him, and it seemed like she was going to argue the point. But she quickly relented. It was too hard to fight that look on his face. Slapping her hand on the controls, the ramp started to close and she muttered, “Okay. You’re right.”
“Thank you,” he smiled and kissed her cheek. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he walked with her deeper into the Falcon to the roar of cheers and applause.
