I would like to get up
Who: Morrigan and Maia
What: Maia gets some blackmail of Morrigan with Barkspawn and the cats sleeping on her, and other general pregnancy related cuteness
When: Recent
Where: their house
Rating: PG
Pregnancy wasn’t the easiest thing in the world. Morrigan’s hormones were on overload. She had some mood swings, but not as many as one might expect. Instead, she tended to have a far more active sex drive than normal, which had been healthy to begin with. She also sometimes had cravings for odd things. Her sense of smell had been heightened, which kept her out of her greenhouse more often than she liked. She could only stand it to go in and water her plants and ensure they weren’t dying before she couldn’t take it anymore.
After doing a few things around the house, Morrigan had settled herself on the couch with a book. Her baby bump was noticeable now, as she was five months along. Maternity wear was all she could wear now. However, as she was reading, she’d unintentionally fallen asleep. The book had fallen against her chest, one hand still holding it. Both cats had settled themselves on Morrigan. Bastet was curled up on the pillow next to Morrigan’s head and was nestled into the area where her neck and shoulder joined. Persephone was nestled against Morrigan’s side. Barkspawn was also in the mix, settling for laying on the floor beside the couch. Morrigan’s free hand had slipped off the couch and was actually resting on Barkspawn.
All in all, it was an adorable sight to behold. Bastet was purring against Morrigan’s ear, which was probably what had lulled Morrigan to sleep to begin with.
The whole situation was beyond adorable. Maia was really enjoying it, making fun of Morrigan’s suffering. She loved watching her waddle around. It was adorable. And this? Was even more so. Maia grinned, folding her arms to stare at the love of her life, and the animals were that were all over her. After a dozen pictures and five minutes of blackmail video, Maia gently approached her wife, kneeling on the floor and brushing some hair out of her face. “Aren’t you just beautiful.”
Morrigan groaned a bit, waking up at hearing Maia’s voice and feeling her touch. Her eyes opened and Maia’s face came into focus. “Did I fall asleep?” She asked a bit sleepily. She hadn’t remembered falling asleep.
“Yes. You fell asleep and everyone decided that you looked rather comfortable. If there was room on the couch right now, I’d join you.” Maia flashed her best, most cheeky smile.
Morrigan gazed at Bastet out of the corner of her eye. She felt Persephone nestled against her side. She flexed her fingers and found that her free hand was apparently on Barkspawn’s head. “Seems as though I am trapped here.” Because disturbing cats was breaking the law.
“Alas. Luckily, I have many many pictures for blackmail purposes.” Maia leaned in, kissing Morrigan’s nose. “How are you feeling love? How’s the little duck?”
Morrigan sighed dramatically. “Of course you acquired pictures for blackmail purposes. I’m feeling alright at the moment.” Though that could change at any moment, especially if she got one of those hot spells. Maker, she hated hormones.
Resting her hands on Morrigan’s belly, Maia beamed, mostly at the baby. “What do you think it’ll be like? What kind of monster will the two of us spawn?”
She meant monster in the ‘two year old tantrum’ sort, not any actual real monster.
Sometimes Morrigan took offense to people touching her stomach. Right now Maia got a pass because Morrigan was still kind of waking up. “With my sterling personality and your sarcasm and humor, most likely a hellion that may be threatened with being tossed into the Void.” Of course, Kieran hadn’t been a terrible child, but he had been Alistair’s kid. Perhaps there had been more of his father in him than Morrigan would ever actually admit.
Throw in Logan’s genes and ‘tender’ influence, this kid would be a hell of a handful. Maia beamed again. “I’m gonna love it so much.”
“Remember those words when we don’t sleep for months on end after the child is born.” Being a new parent wasn’t easy, and Morrigan had gone without much sleep in the early days after Kieran’s birth. But she also wouldn’t trade them for anything else in the world.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Maia gave her fiance a tender smile. “Are you hungry? Thirsty? Need anything? Foot rub?”
She had nothing else to do and she actually was pretty eager to do the doting parent thing.
“I would like to get up, but disturbing cats is a cardinal sin.” And considering both cats were purring rather contentedly, it made for it being more difficult to get up.
“Clearly.” Maia practically chirped the word, having the expression of a contented cat herself. She got to her feet, “Let me get you some water, at least. I’m sure at least one of you is parched!”
“Thank you, that would be most appreciated.” Morrigan hoped that at least one of the cats would move soon so she could take advantage of the situation and get up. However, she was beginning to think that maybe she should just take things into her own hands, rather literally. Some magic may be necessary if the cats didn’t move soon.
Maia returned a moment later with a glass, stopping to gaze lovingly at her little family. She couldn’t wait to make things official with Morrigan. A part of her remained certain they somehow wouldn’t make it. That Fate would once again strip her of her happiness.
That she’d been steadfastly been ignoring the whispering in her mind for close to a year now surely had nothing to do with it. “Watching you like this. I couldn’t be happier.”
“Oh I think you could be happier. But there’s not enough room for you on this couch as well.” Laying on Morrigan was out of the question given the baby bump. And snuggling beside her would result in disturbing the cats.
“Next time, my lap could be your pillow,” Maia promised. “Until then, well, I’ll just have to dream! Or we could get a bigger couch for next time.”
Next time with this baby? Or with another one? That was the question!
Morrigan smiled. “That is something wonderful to look forward to there.” On either count, really. Perhaps a bigger couch would be needed with the baby. After all, babies didn’t stay babies forever. They grew up and needed space of their own.
“Okay. That’s it.” Maia picked up one of the cats and put her on the floor, then did the same with the other. She promptly crawled onto the couch, careful of Morrigan’s belly and proceeded to snuggle her. “My turn!”
There was quite a bit of mewing in protest to Maia moving the cats, but no blood was shed in the process. Morrigan scooted a bit to make room for Maia. “That is much better,” she commented as she snuggled into Maia once she was settled.
“I love you,” Maia breathed. She buried her face in Morrigan’s hair, savoring the softness and the scent. The voices faded to some place in the back of her mind.
Everything would be all right.
Morrigan closed her eyes, leaning her head against Maia’s. “I love you, too,” she murmured. She threaded her fingers through Maia’s. Then she felt something and her eyes opened. Having been pregnant in the dreams, she knew what it was. Smiling, she slid Maia’s hand to her stomach. “Do you feel that?”
The baby was kicking.
Maia all but giggled, smiling so widely that her cheeks hurt. “I can feel it! Do you think it’ll get into football?”
Real football, naturally, not that American nonsense. Maia had Strong Opinions on that that rarely came up, but she decided then and there to be the Best Soccer Mom Possible.
“I suppose anything is possible.” Morrigan was indifferent on football. She’d never been big into sports of any sort, preferring to spend her time studying and doing anything she could to stay away from her mother. She’d watch it, of course, but she didn’t have a specific team she cheered for.
“I’ll be the soccer mum so you don’t have to,” Maia promised. “But you’re in charge of all bake sales. Deal?”
“Deal. But I’ll still be there at football matches for support. I’ll just let you take the lead on that.” Morrigan could handle the bake sales. And the biology homework. She was kind of a whiz where biology was concerned.
