Bo had been struggling with what to do for Lara’s birthday/Valentine’s Day this year. It was hard to top the handfasting ceremony she’d secretly planned with Sam the previous year. But then an idea had struck her. They’d once planned a rock climbing date that had been waylaid by Orange County’s weirdness and they hadn’t actually rescheduled it. So, that’s what Bo had planned to do this year.

As such, she was dressed for exercise, black tank top, sports bra, hair in a ponytail. “This is probably a step down from the handfasting ceremony last year, but we can totally still make it great.” And, of course, she had a birthday present for Lara. Bo was incredibly determined to give her wife better memories of this day. She hoped that she was at least starting to succeed in that endeavor.

As far as Lara was concerned it was their first anniversary. And a lot better than being her birthday.

“It's perfect.” And Lara wasn't lying and she couldn't lie. It really was perfect.

She wore something that matched, yet looked a lot like the Angelina outfit. Only with pants. She gave Bo a kiss. “ready?”

Bo smiled warmly. She was glad that Lara approved of this. Of course, Lara was the outdoors type. Bo was getting better at being the outdoors type, thanks to her wife’s influence. She returned the kiss and nodded. “I’m totally ready.”

“First one to the top gets to be on top,” Lara teased, just before she took a running leap onto the cliffface. It was best to pace herself, but she liked showing off for Bo, letting her muscles do the talking as she started to pull herself up the mountain.

Bo couldn’t help but to watch the flex of muscles in Lara’s arms and shoulders. Gods she loved Lara’s muscles. And then she realized she was falling behind, even though she pretty much knew she couldn’t beat Lara no matter what she did. Unlike her wife, she didn’t take a running leap at the cliff face, and to be perfectly honest she was a little afraid of cliffs given the fact she’d fallen off of one and would’ve died had it not been for a couple passing hitchhikers in her dreams.

But she stuffed that down and started climbing. She moved carefully, ensuring she had good hand and foot holds to grab onto before shifting her weight. She was not going to ruin the day by not paying attention and falling and getting herself seriously injured.

It really would ruin their day, and Lara was careful as well. It wasn’t like they were in danger, so she double and triple checked her handholds. She found a ledge about halfway up and perched there to rest and waited for Bo to catch up. “I’m loving this view.”

Did she mean the valley below, or the view down Bo’s tank top?

At hearing Lara’s comment, Bo paused momentarily and glanced up at her wife. “I bet it’s a view unlike any other.” She also could either be referring to the valley below or the view down her tank top. She then resumed climbing, finally making it to the ledge and pulled herself up on it to get a rest. She may be fae, but Bo didn’t have unlimited strength or stamina.

Except during sex, but that was entirely different than rock climbing.

“And it’s all mine.” Lara was in a good mood, and a flirty one at that. Such things were typically reserved for text messages and when they were alone, though there’d been a few times where Lara had turned up the charm in a rare, subtle display of jealousy at the bar.

She offered Bo some water. “Keep hydrated, we’re only halfway there.”

“Definitely all yours, babe,” Bo responded with a smile, lifting her left hand and wiggling her fingers to accentuate the engagement and wedding rings on her finger. She had to say, she liked it when Lara got flirty and turned up the charm. Even the subtle display of jealousy now and then at the bar was hot. That tended to flip Bo’s switch quite easily.

“Thanks,” she said, taking the water and taking a drink from it. “No doubt my view going up will be just as good as my view up to this point.” And yes, she was totally talking about Lara’s ass, which looked rather amazing.

Lara flushed, but laughed. She rubbed her hands together, tightening her gloves and then using some powder on her fingers to help with her grip. Carefully, she stood, leaning back against the ledge. For a moment, she wondered what it would be like to leap off this ledge, and swan dive. But there was hard rock below, and no water. It wouldn’t be a pleasant end.

Then she turned around and started to climb.

Grinning, Bo took a minute to watch Lara start climbing again. She would never get tired of watching her wife exercise. After a few more moments, Bo got up and started climbing as well. She still moved carefully, keeping her attention focused on where the handholds were. This was definitely a workout, but Bo more than welcomed it. She liked getting out with Lara like this.

Sharing this with Bo made Lara feel human. Alive. The blood pumping through her veins, the oxygen in her lungs, the sound of their breathing and the wind and birds calling somewhere nearby.

It made her feel at peace, and that she could share it with Bo? It made her feel even better. She was a little sappy by the time she reached the top.

There was no one else there, though someone had camped a few nights ago, judging by a carefully disposed campfire.

This was definitely a good way to spend the day. And spending more time with Lara like this was the best part of it all. Even if she’d somehow thought she could beat Lara to the top, she totally didn’t mind ‘losing.’

Finally reaching the top, she pulled herself up onto the ledge and she took a few deep breaths as she brushed her hands off.

“Totally worth the climb,” she said with a smile.

“Yes, it’s a beautiful view.” Yet Lara wasn’t looking at the view, but at Bo. It was cliche and stupid, and she felt stupid, but didn’t really care. There were times you were presented with an opportunity for a line like that and you didn’t turn them down. She reached for Bo’s hand, “Getting down will be easy.”

Even if it was cliche and stupid, Bo didn’t care. She was flattered and smiled warmly at her wife, taking Lara’s hand. “I’m sure it’ll be a breeze. But the important part is being here with you.” Which was the entire point of this.

“Lets find a little spot, put down a blanket and snack,” Lara suggested. She’d packed a small lunch for them when Bo hadn’t been looking, knowing they’d be hungry after the climb and that they’d need fuel for the return trip.

And a romantic picnic was a nice idea, anyway.

“A snack?” Bo asked, tilting her head a bit. She was definitely unaware of the picnic that Lara had packed. She’d mostly just envisioned either sitting up there with Lara for a while, or doing a little hiking or something as opposed to a picnic.

Lara set up the blanket, then pulled the snacks out of her pack. It turned out to be carefully packed sandwiches, mostly, along with some really pricey chocolate, just for Bo. “That has to wait for later,” she told her.

Bo’s eyes lit up a bit at seeing the chocolate. However, she pouted a bit. “That has got to be some form of torture by teasing me with chocolate and saying I can’t have it until later.” The only thing worse in Bo’s book would be getting her sexually worked up only to stop and make her wait until later.

“Tell it to the Swiss,” Lara retorted. She opened one, in fact, and ate it slowly while Bo watched. She might be enjoying this a little too much, but she’d hold fast to her own plan. This might have been Bo’s idea but Lara had plans of her own.

“Eat first. You’ll need your energy. I promise.”

Bo watched Lara eat the chocolate bar. Her mouth watered a bit and she definitely felt like she was being tortured. Though for once, when Lara said she’d need her energy, Bo’s mind did not go instantly to sex. She was expecting hiking or something else before they made their way back down then went back home. She wasn’t expecting sex or anything of the sort until they got back home.

“Sounds like you’ve got a plan.” Bo took one of the sandwiches, managing to keep herself from taking chocolate instead. She could obey orders that she couldn’t have it until later. She didn’t precisely like it, but she’d abide by the rules.

“Just a small one. This was mostly your idea so I ran with it.” Lara started to eat, glancing thoughtfully to the view far below them. While she had hiking buddies, as it were, it was something extra special when it came to Bo. A sharing of a part of herself.

Her plans might or might not lead to sex, she was leaving that to Bo once they’d hiked.

“I’m assuming it’s the surprise sort of plan,” she stated before taking another bite of her sandwich. Bo wasn’t going to pry if Lara wanted to keep it as a surprise. She well understood wanting to surprise someone. After all, she’d kept the handfasting ceremony a secret for months the previous year. She could be patient and see what Lara had in store for them.

Though remaining patient for chocolate wasn’t going to be anywhere near as easy.

Lara laughed, her eyes flashing with amusement. No dreams, her mind far away from the past few Orange County Adventures. Just her and Bo. “I just wish I could find a way to make a day as special as the handfasting last year.”

Bo chuckled. “Any day with you is special, babe. Though I have to admit, I think I out-did myself with the handfasting.” She grinned a bit. “Though if anyone can top that, it’s you.” After all, Lara knew more courtship rituals and such things from civilizations than Bo could probably count.

“You did.” Lara felt herself tear up just a little bit at the memory. The Surprise about Sam, their vows. It meant more to her than the actual wedding in some ways. She took Bo’s hand, sliding a piece of chocolate into it as she did so. She grinned cheekily. “So there’s your reward.”

Bo had agonized over the details of the handfasting, at least after she’d ensured that Sam could make it there. She’d wanted to marry Lara and have her best friend be able to be there. While the handfasting hadn’t been legalized, it was the day that Bo considered their wedding day. Though their actual wedding had still been special, nothing beat the look on Lara’s face when she realized what was actually happening and when Sam revealed herself.

“I love you,” she said as she felt the chocolate in her hand. Which she quickly took a bite of and groaned a bit. “Oh man, this chocolate is amazing,” she complimented.

“I got it from London,” Lara replied, smiling at her. “I got it just for you. There’ll be another surprise for you at the end of the trail.”

She decided it was a good time to get moving, actually, and got to her feet. “I love you too. Lets wander.”

“Thank you,” she responded with a warm smile. Bo savored the chocolate, not wanting to devour it like she was ravenous or something. Besides, good chocolate needed to be savored. Bo got to her feet, stretching a little before she reached out and took Lara’s hand in hers. “Lead on,” she said.

Maybe Lara should have told Bo to savor the chocolate. Something to suck on and enjoy the flavor of while they walked. But she took squeezed Bo’s hand, rubbing her thumb over her knuckles. “I love you. I hope I say it enough. Do I say it enough?”

“You do, but I’ll never get tired of hearing no matter how often you say it.” Bo was confident in their relationship, but with the way her dreams went with the multiple broken hearts she’d suffered, it was a nice affirmation to hear Lara say it. “I love you, too,” she responded, gazing at Lara adoringly as she lifted her hand to her lips and pressed a kiss to the back of it.

It sent a shiver down Lara’s spine, and her eyes fluttered shut for a moment. She opened them again, then led Bo through a clearing. If the timing was right, they’d catch the sun coming down through the trees and make the pond and waterfall sparkle like diamonds.

The timing was right.

Bo did so enjoy having that effect on Lara. She followed her through the clearing. Bo hadn’t expected anything, but the view of the sun hitting the water was quite the sight. “Oh wow, this is gorgeous. It’s kind of like a little oasis.” Except they hadn’t been walking miles through the desert to get to the oasis.

“When you said you wanted to do the rock climbing, I knew we had to time it to come here.” She put her pack on the ground, then glanced at Bo before peeling her top off and starting to strip. “Come on.”

This wasn’t her first skinny dipping; Sam had ensured that.

But she was still nervous about the idea.

As Lara peeled her top off, Bo kind of stared. It didn’t matter how often she saw Lara without her clothes on, she always loved seeing the clothes come off to reveal skin and muscle. At the invitation, Bo didn’t hesitate. She stripped naked, rather enjoying the thought of skinny dipping with Lara. Bo paused long enough to pull her hair out of a ponytail.

It had been entirely too long since she had skinny dipped. And skinny dipping with Lara was quite a treat.

If Lara’s muscles rippled more than usual, it wasn’t on purpose. Only it was totally on purpose. She kicked her pants off, standing there all lean muscle and scars. Then she too took her hair down, and dove into the water.

Sometimes Bo thought that Lara cheated by showing off her muscles like that. But Bo would never seriously complain about that. She loved Lara’s muscles and she stared at them, licking her lips. She finished stripping and then dove into the water as well. It was both refreshing and exhilarating at the same time.

Popping out of the water, Lara turned around until she saw Bo, oogling her a little. There was something special about the way the water glistened on her curves and skin.

“I’m a very lucky woman.” As would anyone who came across them. Be lucky, that is. At least until Lara broke their nose.

Hearing Lara’s comment, Bo couldn’t help the sultry grin as she moved closer to her wife. “I’m a very lucky woman as well. So we make a good pair.” There was something about this setting that was both romantic and incredibly sexy.

They could play the ‘who was luckier’ game all they wanted, and Lara was half tempted to. Instead, she wrapped her arms around her wife and kissed her softly. No pushing, no needing, no suggestion, just a simple hug and a simple kiss. “What do you want to do for our official one year anniversary later this year?”

Smiling, Bo slid her arms around Lara’s neck and returned the soft kiss. At the question, she did take some moments to think it over. She kind of wanted to take another trip, actually leave the country kind of trip. “If it would fit with your schedule, how about taking a trip? I kind of want to go on an African safari. Or visit the pyramids in Egypt, but you’ve probably already seen the pyramids.”

“Yes, but have you seen the pyramids?” Lara asked. “Pictures just don’t do them justice. The sheer scale and size, the weight of history. All the things buried in and around them, many unexplored.”

Her dreams had told her that. Lara was certain her own quest would lead her back to egypt eventually.

“No, I haven’t. The only times I’ve been off of this continent was on our honeymoon.” Before meeting Lara, Bo hadn’t really had much desire to travel the world. That was probably because she drifted from place to place as it was, never staying anywhere overly long. Now, she wanted to see the world. Lara’s thirst for knowledge and adventure was rubbing off on her.

“Though would the pyramids be boring to you?” Bo didn’t want Lara to be bored. And, well, the pyramids would undoubtedly be more interesting to Lara than a safari.

“Not even a little,” Lara assured her. She ran her hands down Bo’s back, rubbing and squeezing in places as she did so. “There’s more to be discovered there than one life time could ever uncover. But we could make a fair start of it. Or try to be regular tourists, even. That might be fun.”

Bo shivered a little under Lara’s touch, leaning into it a bit. She rubbed her fingertips along the back of Lara’s neck. “Then Egypt it is. Though something tells me even if we tried to be regular tourists, you’d be into the first tomb we come across faster than the speed of light.” She was teasing, but she also knew her wife and her thirst for exploration and discovery.

“Shh.” Lara couldn’t promise their anniversary wouldn’t turn into some kind of adventure or work trip. Just by virtue of going to an ancient place that kind of meant avoiding it was impossible.

But she liked the idea of sharing that with Bo.

She chuckled and rubbed her nose against Lara’s gently. “Either way, it will be something nice to share with you.” Bo enjoyed watching Lara in her element. Any time spent with her was wonderful and definitely worth it.

Deciding that they’d have enough talking about the future, Lara chose to focus on the present. She nodded her head back to shore. “Now you can have the chocolate. Unless you have something else you want to sample?”

Bo chuckled. “Well, I have something much better than chocolate right here in my arms. It would be terrible of me to choose chocolate over you.” The only thing better than chocolate was her wife, and Bo was in the indulging mood currently.

And Lara pulled Bo down into the water, so they could indulge properly.
