Who: Logan Howlett and Marguerite
What: Logan attempts to woo Marguerite. It doesn't go well.
When: 15 February
Where: Cafe
Warnings: Low
Status: Log | Complete
He’d finally checked out one of Marguerite’s shows back in December at Laura’s insistence. It had been a good show, and he’d been looking at the theater page to see when the next one was in order to support Laura and her friend when something jabbed him, right as he was looking at Marguerite’s picture.
She was gorgeous. When she walked it was like light followed her, her red hair glowing like the embers of a fire, and Logan was enraptured.
This required flowers. Lots of them. Huge amounts from the short, well built man who looked damn good in a tux.
All things considered, Marguerite felt that she was putting together a good program for the cabaret show in a few weeks. Songs were chosen, she’d gotten in touch of some people she’d performed with for duets and even had managed to ‘bring back’ the Danny Nova band for one song. After all, Love Will Come and Find Me Again deserved the full treatment and not just a piano and Casey had already offered to do the piano for the performances.
Having finished up with rehearsal for the show, Marguerite had decided to stop by the cafe near the dance studio where she had class in a couple of hours. Meaning she had no idea what was waiting for her. At the moment, she was just listening to her iPod with the practice tracks as she waited in line to get her coffee.
What was waiting for her was what appeared to be a moving bouquet of flowers the size of a small bus. Figuratively speaking.
It was only after Logan set them down that he was revealed from behind the mass of plants. He gave her the googly eyes, “Hello darlin’.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that Marguerite had dealt with an overzealous admirer. However, she recognized Logan both from the Network and more so that he was Laura’s father. Which meant that she wasn’t too concerned. Mostly. Even if that was a rather odd greeting. And look.
“Hello… Logan, correct?”
What? She paid attention to things and it was always good to know who you might run into from the Network. She did do the occasional information gathering after all. For now though, she was ignoring the googly eyes.
“You know my name? Thank my lucky stars.” Logan grinned at her, uncharacteristically cheery and sappy. It was, frankly, disturbing. Clearly, it was meant to be.He held aloft the flowers, “Shoulda got the balloons. These are for you, darlin’.”
“Well, you are Laura’s father and I’ve seen you on the network.”
Well this was already getting borderline disturbing. Mostly because Marguerite did know enough about Logan to know that this was not how he normally acted. She’d noticed things on the network, people becoming seemingly obsessed with items or pets or….
Seriously?! At least it was undoubtedly Orange County being Orange County so this wouldn’t be a long term situation. Hopefully. She’d had enough with stalkers.
“It’s fine, really. You shouldn’t have though.” She and Percy would have a laugh about this later. Most likely. He was busy getting everything set for the opening of Pimpernel Outreach.
Logan wasn’t a stalker though he could be a really good, scary one. He was just in love? Head over heels in love! Heart eyes, even!
“I had to. It’s the least of what you deserved.” Logan said, humbly. He fished around in his pocket then tossed Marguerite a set of keys. “I got you something else.”
A brand new car!
Wasn’t that what all stalkers said? Even so, Marguerite was just going to see how this played out for now. Especially since these things were temporary. Though even temporary could end badly. Running her fingers through her hair, the actress quirked a brow.
“You really didn’t--”
And then it was getting a set of keys tossed at her which Marguerite managed to catch, eyes widening some.
“I… ” Looked like car keys at least as opposed to a house key which...awkward. “I really can’t accept this.”
“It’s a gift, for a beautiful, talented woman,” Logan assured her. “No take-backsies! I can afford it, easy. Figured you could use some reliable transport.”
Wouldn’t want anything to happen to her after all.
“You may be able to afford it, but really. I can’t accept it. And I doubt my boyfriend would appreciate me accepting such a gift.” Flowers were one thing. Even balloons though they would have been a bit much. A car though?! “And really, I get around just fine.”
“Boyfriend.” Logan narrowed his eyes. Who is this person? He’d have to fight this person for her honor, it was the only way. “Where is he, we gotta duel.”
So… that was the wrong thing to say. And they were getting odd looks and all Marguerite had wanted was just some coffee before dance and now this was happening. Okay. She could manage this, though she’d have to warn Percy to be on the lookout. Just in case.
“Now why would I tell you where he is so you can duel him? Though the last time he dueled someone, I joined in to fight with him and I’d do it again.”
While before she had been trying to pacify Logan and just get out of the awkward situation, the second someone threatened Percy? Well. Marguerite was a lot tougher than she appeared and it was one of the few things that would get to her like this.
“Just a friendly one, darlin’. Don’t even have to draw blood.” Though he would if he was pressed to it. Logan rubbed his chin. “.... what do you want? Anythin’ you want. Your own theater?”
Oh lord. Pinching the bridge of her nose, Marguerite let out a slow breath. This was an Orange County thing. It would pass. She just had to keep repeating that to herself. Even if it was getting exasperating.
“This isn’t the 18th century. There’s no need for a duel.” And thank goodness for that. Marguerite got enough of the 18th century in her Dreams.
“....This isn’t about wanting material things. I love Percy. That isn’t going to change.”
“But I love you,”Logan insisted, his eyes watering up as his expression crunched up into something akin to heartbreak. “Darlin;, can’t you see it’s meant to be?”
All she wanted was her coffee. Really, that was it. Not all of this. Then again, this sort of thing tended to be something most people didn’t want. Even knowing it was only a temporary situation, it was beyond uncomfortable.
“You don’t even know me. Believe me, it will pass.”
Please let this be one of the things that lasted only a couple days and not a week. That was all she could hope for right now.
“Course I know you. With hair like that, how could i not? It’s like fire on your head, and twice as beautiful.” He could be passionate, give him that at least.
Yes, he was very passionate in his words. But it didn’t change anything.
“You can’t really know a person based on their hair.” She was trying to inch towards the register to put in her drink and get out of there while keeping an eye on the time to make it to her dance class. “This is just infatuation.”
Please let logic somehow get through to him.
Logan frowned, the frown of a heartbroken man. Then he got a determined look on his face. He’d let her go for now, and woo her through another means. Nothing could stop him now!
Marguerite really didn’t know how to read the determined look but she was just going to hope that this all ended before things got messy. Or well… messier. But at least it seemed he was leaving and she could get her coffee and decompress before dance. That was really all she could hope for at the moment.
