It felt like a long time since the last time Laurence was in the OC, though in reality it had been less than a year since he had set out to sea. He still wasn't entirely certain how he felt about his return. He never felt more at home than when he was on the sea, but there had been something about the OC that had called from him even as he stood on the deck of his ship and looked out over the long, empty ocean.
But life on land must continue on. Laurence had spent Valentine's Day moving into his new apartment, but that task was now completed. Now, he was standing in line, awaiting a cup of coffee before he made his way to the DMV to renew his license and purchase insurance for his vehicle.
He wasn't sure what had stung him, but he slapped a hand to his shoulder where he had been struck, and turned to see if he could see what it was. He couldn't find the offending insect, but his eyes were drawn to a girl sitting at one of the tables. She was, perhaps, the most lovely women he'd ever laid eyes upon, and though he knew it was rude to stare, he couldn't help it.
At least, he couldn't help it until he realized how very young she appeared. She had to have been at least ten years his junior, and he was struck by how very inappropriate it was for him to continue gawking at her. And so, he tore his eyes from her, and ordered his coffee.
