I just want to have a family chat!
Who: Tonks and Bellatrix What: Bellatrix intimidates Tonks! When: Thursday Where: Some place Rating: Pg-13 for the crazy Status: Complete!
Bellatrix had tried. She really had. Every dream pulled her a little farther from reality, and Caprica's dismissal had caused one of her remaining lifelines to snap. She loved the woman, had sacrificed for her, but the favor hadn't been returned. Maybe it never would be returned. It reminded her of Him. In the dreams she'd given him so much.
Her loyalty, her love, her soul, but in the cold light of day and the waking world she knew he had given her nothing in return. She still didn't know what she would do, should she meet Voldemort in this world, again. Hopefully he was still in jail, and not dreaming like the rest of them were.
Potter. She blamed Lily Potter, who's indiscretion had outed her and forced Caprica's hand. She couldn't just go after her. That would be too obvious. Too easy. Instead, she'd go after someone who was like a daughter to Lily. Bellatrix's niece. The daughter of Andromeda who she loved and she hated.
Instead, she stalked Nymphadora Tonks.
Tonks hadn’t got enough sleep last night, it was the only way to explain this odd feeling she’d had all morning. She was watching her new target, learning his routine and seeing who he interacted with but she’d felt like she was the one being watched. It was disconcerting.
She made a note in her book before packing it away in her bag and heading back towards the quiet street she had parked her car in. Maybe she should head home and sleep, that sounded like an appealing idea.
Bellatrix had been observing the car, waiting for Tonks to return. She thought her best approach would have to be the blunt one - she'd been impressed by the woman's choice of work, at least. It amused her. Stalking the stalker and all that.
She stepped out from behind a car, and flicked her wrist. A green burst of light left her wand and hit the car nearest to Tonks, "Oh sweetie, I think we need to talk."
She didn't need to know that it was little more than a light show, that her deadly and painful spells were too weak. She just needed to believe that it was dangerous. The wild look in Bella's eyes and the confidence with which she sent another burst of green light at Tonks might just help.
Before Tonks could say anything the light hit the car making her jump back startled, “Bellatrix, what the hell are you doing?” she asked, her eyes flicking along the road but realising it was deserted.
Her Aunt looked absolutely crazy and Tonks wasn’t keen on ‘talking’ with her at all, a thought which only intensified as she had to move quickly out of the way before the second green light actually hit her.
"Come now, lovey, I just want to have a family chat!" The woman laughed, strolling nonchalantly towards Tonks, tapping the tip of her wand on her lower lip. She wore a black corset and a long black dress, despite the weather. Her wardrobe had gotten decidedly blacker since the dreams.
She pouted a little, "I want to talk about Lily, and your mother, really. We can chat civilized . It's not like I intend to tie you to a chair and beat you."
Though that did sound like a lot of fun. So much fun that Bellatrix had to mentally slap herself. She wasn't that monster. Did she want to be?
Tonks backed up until her back hit the car behind her and she mentally cursed for allowing herself to be backed into a corner.
Looking at Bellatrix she narrowed her eyes, “We’re not family” she told the older woman coldly, they may be related by blood but that didn’t make them family in Tonks’ eyes, “And I’m not talking about Lily or my mother, not with you so you can forget the intimidation routine”
She was scared, she’d be stupid not to be with the state Bellatrix was in but she was also loyal and there was no way she was going to give in, even if she did get tied to a chair and beaten which Bellatrix looked like she would enjoy despite saying it wasn’t her plan.
"What has Lily told you about the fire that killed her family?" Bellatrix asked suddenly, as if the question had just occurred to her. She continued to walk towards her, her movements lazy.
"What has she told you about me? Did you get her vicious little text?"
Which is what it came down to. The little house of cards that Bellatrix had helped build was starting to fall down, and it hadn't even been her that and done so. It vexed her. She had wanted it to come down eventually. She only hadn't moved sooner because Caprica had begged her not to.
“You’re crazy” Tonks told her, refusing to answer her question about the fire, “Lily isn’t running around talking about you all the time you know. If the stupid phones hadn’t played up none of us would have gotten her text” Well apart from Sirius, she thought, but mentioning that wouldn’t help right now.
"She sent it. Was it to you? Or was it meant to someone else?" Bellatrix stopped short, peering at Tonk thoughtfully. The crazy look in her eyes had tempered somewhat. She stared at Tonk, unblinkingly, her eyelids heavy, "Do you believe it?"
“Why do you care if I believe it?” Tonks questioned back with a frown as Bellatrix stared at her, “It makes no difference to you what I think”
"No, it doesn't," Bellatrix replied, smirking. She tapped the wand against her own lips again. She'd changed her mind several times over the last few minutes. What she'd wanted to do with Nym. She leaned in, really close.
She changed her mind again. She'd make her a messenger, "Tell Potter to call me. Tell her it's about the fire, lovey. And stay away from your grandfather."
Leaning back, she sneered, "He's a perv."
Tonks forced herself not to lean back when Bellatrix came so close, she wasn’t going to show how intimidating she found her aunt. “Well that’s not a problem” she replied with more confidence than she felt, “I haven’t seen him for years anyway” She avoided that side of her family completely and it had never bothered her; not knowing them. It bothered her even less now.
Deciding now would be a good time to get away from here before Bellatrix decided to do something more than talk and they ended up having a punch up Tonks made to move around the imposing woman and leave.
Bellatrix let Tonks move past her, turning to watch her go. She slipped her wand down the front of her corset. Some day. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
"Tell her it's true."
Tonks looked back at Bellatrix, she could not work the woman out. Though maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing, after all if she understood how the other woman’s mind worked she had a feeling it wouldn’t be all that pleasant.
Grinning devilishly, Bellatrix raised her hand and waggled her fingers, as if to say 'toodles!'
