With her red Gucci bucket bag on her shoulder, bright blonde hair bouncing down her back and her favourite winter jacket on, Celaena all but skipped up to the front door of her friend Myrcella and knocked loudly to announce her presence. Turning to look out at the street she’d just come from while she waited, she smiled to herself at the nice neighbourhood.
Myrcella loved Celaena’s visits, she was the perfect client as well as a wonderful friend. She appreciated Myrcella’s talent with her beauty treatments but they also always had a good old gossip together. And of course with Myrcella’s engagement there was plenty of talk to be had. Opening the door she smiled brightly and greeted her friend with a hug before ushering her inside, “Hey, how are you?”
“Hey you!” Celaena grinned and accepted Myrcella’s hug before stepping inside. “I’m good, yeah, I’m ok,” she nodded, taking her bag and jacket off. Truth be told, since she had heard Myrcella’s news she had been doing a lot of thinking about her own relationship with Damian. But this was a time for Myrcella, not Celaena. “Excited to hear your news! Let me see the ring!” she enthused, turning to look down for her friend’s hand.
Myrcella could tell something was on her friends mind but she didn’t seem to want to talk about it at the moment so Myrcella didn’t pry. Maybe later she’d open up once she was relaxed. “Thank you, here it is” she held out her hand for inspection, “I’ll need to take it off for work of course but I knew you’d want to see it” She had a chain for it while she was working but the moment she washed up for the day she put it back on.
“Oh wow! That is so beautiful!” Celaena gasped, taking her friend’s hand in hers to look at the ring in question. Grinning, she looked up at Myrcella. “You’re such a lucky girl,” she stepped forward and gave her friend another hug. “Congratulations!” she said as she stepped back. “Are you excited? Started planning?”
“Thank you” she smiled, blushing a little, “I am definitely lucky. Thank you” she said nodding, “I’m very excited but we haven’t started planning anything yet. I’m just going to enjoy being engaged for a while”
“Oh come on,” Celaena grinned at her friend with a cheeky wink. “You’ve not had any ideas about where you’d like to get married? The kind of dress you’d like? Big or small ceremony?” she prodded gently as they started to walk into the house a bit more.
“Oh I have ideas but we’ve not talked about anything. I mean I like the idea of a pretty garden, or maybe even the beach for a location. Relatively small ceremony and the dress I have in mind is something elegant, not puffy or anything” Myrcella said, but of course she would listen to what Jeremy wanted too.
“Sounds like you’ve got a good basis to start with,” Celaena smiled, hooking arms with Myrcella as they walked. “Any thoughts on when? Summer? Winter?” she asked curiously.
“Nice weather, so here that means anytime other than Winter. Because you know that the crazy snow would happen” Myrcella grinned, unhooking herself from Cel once they were in her treatment room.
“Yeah, that’s true,” Celaena agreed as she stepped through the door into the treatment room. “How long have you guys been together now?” she asked, trying to be casual about it. She had a feeling it was about as long as herself and Damian, possibly less. Which just made her a bit sad again.
“We’ve been together almost four and a half years now” Myrcella said, “Though we were friends for awhile before that too” She said, it was a little longer than Celaena and Damian but Myrcella could see Celaena seemed a little sad. “You okay?” she asked.
“Hmm?” Celaena asked, having been briefly distracted by her own thoughts. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” she gave a little laugh as she sat down in the treatment room. “Fine and dandy, just...thinking. Y’know about...stuff,” she shrugged, putting her bag on the floor. “Actually, daydreaming is a better word,” she tried to deflect, shaking her head and knowing she was talking too much. “It’s nothing.”
“Daydreaming about being engaged to Damian perhaps?” Myrcella asked, it was natural of course when one of your friends got engaged to look at your own situation and perhaps wish a little.
Celaena gaped in response as she fidgeted with her clothes nervously. “I...I...I don’t know what you mean...I mean, we’re not even...even, y’know, <>living</i> together. Why would he want to…” she rambled to a stop, taking a breath. “To marry me?” she asked, defeat in her tone and body language as she sank from her normally graceful posture. Her fingers played with the hem of her top as she bit her lip to stop herself from talking.
“You know it’s perfectly normal to think about it when a friend gets engaged. Have you spoken about marriage? Or moving in together?” she asked curiously, wondering if perhaps Celaena needed to talk to Damian if things were playing on her mind this much.
Celaena shrugged. “I asked him about living together and he...he said he thought it was too soon. Said he didn’t want what happened with his ex to happen with us,” she told her friend. “I mean...too soon? Really? We’ve been together for like 3 years!” she sighed as she finally vented her frustrations to someone.
“He’s worried” Myrcella said, “I know it’s hard when you want something so much but he must be still affected by his previous relationship. Maybe you just need to talk to him again, explain how you’re feeling” she suggested. She knew Cel could be a little...forthright when she wanted something.
Celaena sighed to herself and looked off to the side as she considered her friend’s words. “I guess you’re right, I kind of just...let it go when we talked last time. Didn’t exactly tell him how it made me feel,” she admitted. “Makes me want to find that girl and rip her spleen out though,” she said darkly, imagining exactly what she’d do to the girl if they ever had the misfortune of meeting.
Myrcella couldn’t help smiling then, she was such a kind person that Myrcella sometimes forgot how dangerous Cel could be. She was very loyal though, there was no denying that. “That would be rather messy and I am just about to do your nails” she grinned, trying to lighten Celaena’s mood, she didn’t want her friend dwelling on things which were going to worry her.
“That’s true,” Celaena replied as she considered her nails with a little smile on her face. “And it would be a terrible shame to waste an excellent manicure,” she grinned up at Myrcella, happy to change the conversation to happier themes. “So, tell me how you envision your big day?” she grinned, settling down for her friend to work. This was, after all, her time to shine.
