Who: Emma & Spencer When: Week before Halloween Where: Frost International What: Spencer’s Internship Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
Spencer had her ID badge, her email address, and access to the company calendar. Actually, she’d checked in with Emma Frost’s secretary, and had access to Ms. Frost’s calendar, too. Since she was mostly going to be following Ms. Frost around during this Internship, it was probably a good idea for her to know where and when to show up.
She was sitting in the outer room of Ms. Frost’s office, waiting for the older woman to be ready to see her. And it was exhilarating and unnerving. Spencer sure hoped she wouldn’t do anything stupid.
Emma wasn’t surprised at the response to some of her funding programs to help women in business. She’d funded Lena Luthor through a program and look at the woman now, Emma was more than happy to invest in the bright future of women in the corporate world, and extending opportunities to those who might not be able to get a foot in otherwise.
The internship hadn’t been her idea, and she hadn’t even snatched the thought out of the head of the employee who brought it up either, but she was proud of putting the stamp on it and extending things out. So far there were four interns, one for her Orange County based company, one in San Diego with Christian’s branch of the organisation and two in Boston, because Emma liked to make Adrienne work for her piece of Emma’s empire.
“Miss Hastings?” She hadn’t pulled any strings for the girl to receive the selection, because these things had to strictly be on merit alone, but she was exceptionally pleased to see just how competent Miss Hastings was. “Why don’t you come in, we can get started.”
Spencer sprung from the chair at the sound of her name as if the leather seat had become red hot in an instant. She wore a pleasant, professional smile and adjusted the strap of her purse on her shoulder. “Hello, Ms. Frost.” They’d met once before, and Spencer couldn’t believe her luck that they’d chosen her out of all the candidates for the internship position. “Thank you.” She turned to follow the older woman into the office. “Your office is… lovely.” So professional. This was exactly where Spencer wanted to be.
Emma spent so long in her office on a regular basis that she was against drape, office furnishings. She’d handed the reigns over and let someone design something comfortable that wouldn’t drive her insane. The result was a muted, sophisticated office space with a spectacular view of Orange County. She specifically appreciated the half carpet, for when she absolutely had to kick off her shoes while going through god knew how many reports. “Thank you, while interior decorating isn’t my forte, there are a few firms we’ve invested in.” And they would all jump at the chance to decorate for her.
“Have a seat,” thanks to the size of her office, she’d been able to put a small sitting section to side, near the window, for non-formal meetings and when she was taking some time to at least be more comfortable with work. “I know you’ve already been through a lot of the interviews and security formalities, so I won’t be rehashing all that again.” It got exceptionally tedious.
Spencer nodded. She knew a lot of things about Emma Frost’s company, as she’d done her research. Everything she could have done, anyway, there were a lot of trade secrets that she couldn’t get her hands on. But she was thorough. She moved into the office and took a seat in the comfortable chair, then folded one leg over the other and settled in. She was paying attention, but didn’t want to look too eager.
“Oh, good.” Spencer added, teasing just a little. “Because an interview with the infamous Emma Frost would be absolutely boring.”
