It had been some time since Finn had seen Vincent and had been pleasantly surprised to see that he was also a member of Valarnet. He had planned to contact him sooner, but the last few weeks had been quite busy, what with settling into his new position as well as the strange events that had taken place in Orange County since he’d arrived. Then there were the dreams, which had left him somewhat stressed.
When he finally had contacted Vincent, he had suggested they meet for coffee instead of drinks, because he’d realized that he had been drinking more than usual recently as a result of the dreams. lol had certainly been right about needing alcohol to cope with the dreams.
Vincent had only really seen Freya since moving to Orange County. Well Marguerite and he had bumped into Esmeralda as well, but of the Mikaelsons. Not that he knew all of the Mikaelsons outside of his dreams. He only knew Freya and Finn, hell even in his dreams he had barely met Freya and only heard about Klaus and the rest of his family. They were infamous. However, he had dream of Finn’s possession of him. He had no idea what happened in the time that Finn was in his body, But he knew that it had happened. That Freya had gotten Finn out. He knew he couldn’t hold the dream!possession against his friend, but still seeing him again was going to be awkward.
However, Vincent had no idea if Finn was dreaming. He couldn’t exactly decline an invitation for coffee based on dreams. Not to mention the fact that he had missed Finn. So he arrived at the agreed upon coffee shop, ordering a cappuccino and grabbing a table as he waited for his old friend from Paris. Reaching the cafe, Finn spotted Vincent just as he sat down so Finn went and ordered his coffee first then made his way over to the table his old friend had selected, “How have you been, Vincent?” He asked as he sat down across from him.
Vincent greeted his old friend with a smile. “I’ve been good,” he replied taking a sip of his coffee. “Adjusting to a new place.” This place specifically. He just had no idea if Finn knew about the oddness yet. “And yourself?”
“I’ve been alright.” If one didn’t count the fact that he was extremely stressed out by the dreams at the moment. Of course, not knowing that Vincent was also a dreamer meant that Finn wasn’t about to bring any of that up, “So what brought you to Orange County?” He couldn’t help but wonder if anyone else that he’d known in Paris would show up in California any time soon.
“I got a job offer.” At just the right time but he still wasn’t up for talking about his divorce much. Of course like Freya, Finn also had known Eva back when they were still married. “And you? Did you come back for your family?”
“Congratulations. What sort of job?” Finn hadn’t even thought to ask about Eva, mostly because Vincent hadn’t mentioned her. Finn didn’t like the pry into people's’ personal lives and he assumed that if she was there too, Vincent would have mentioned it. “Yeah. I had heard that Freya, Elijah and Klaus were back and it had been awhile since I last saw Kol, Rebekah and Henrik, so I decided to move back. It was an easy transition, considering I work for my mother and I can do the same thing here that I was doing there.”
“Teaching philosophy. At UC Irvine.” He was relieved that Finn wasn’t asking about Eva. His recent divorce wasn’t exactly his favorite topic. “So you’re whole family is back together?” That seemed like quite the feat considering how many siblings there seemed to be.
“How do you like it there?” Finn took a sip of his coffee. UC Irvine was a popular school in Orange County so he wasn’t surprised to hear that Vincent had taken a job there. “We are. For the first time in a very long time.” He may not have seen much of Henrik and Rebekah since he came back, but Finn was glad that they were all close by once again.
“It’s been good so far,” Vincent commented with a sip of his own coffee. “Minus a few strange occurrences,” that caused some of his students not to show up to class. But then Vincent couldn’t really blame them for that. He didn’t elaborate on it too much though, not knowing just how much Finn knew. Instead he went back to the topic of Finn’s family. “That must be nice,” Vincent commented. He did know a little from dreams and from conversations with Freya that they had an interesting dynamic to say the least. “Are you enjoying it?” Perhaps it was an odd question, but Vincent was curious to know Finn’s thoughts on his family.
“Strange occurrences appear to be common around here these days,” Finn had witnessed quite a few strange occurrences since he’d moved back to Orange County so he had a feeling he knew what Vincent was getting at, but since the other man didn’t elaborate, Finn didn’t either and instead nodded in response when the topic returned to his family, “I am. I mean, I could do without my parents being quite so close, but having my siblings close by has been nice.”
Vincent could understand about the parents. Not only because he had dreamed about them. Because he wasn’t close with his parents anymore either. “You have quite a few,” Vincent commented. “I bet it’s rare to have you all in one place.” He paused taking a sip of his coffee. “Almost makes me wonder what you’re doing spending time with me,” he joked.
“That I do,” Finn laughed and took a sip of his drink, “Well, one has to have friends besides family.” As much as he loved his siblings, he needed to have other people that he could talk to occasionally; besides, they did all have jobs and other things that they did so they couldn’t always be together. “That’s true I suppose,” Vincent agreed. “Happy to fill that void for you.” Minus the part where Finn took over his body in the dreams. Vincent finished off his coffee. “We’ll have to get together again soon.”
Finn smiled, nodding, “I’d like that,” Finn had spent a lot of time, in France, working and while he went out on occasion and did have friends, he didn’t have a huge social life and he wanted things to be different now that he was back home and hanging out with Vincent again would definitely help with that.
