I don’t think I believed in anything like that before I met you
Who: Shepard and Liara What: Due to misrouted txt, Shepard is forced to visit Liara. FORCED I TELL YOU. And then they embrace eternity! When: Today Where: Liara’s work, at a museum Status: Complete Rating: PG-13 for what’s not under Shepard’s coat and Liara Flail
That had been mildly embarassing, but Shepard was able to roll with the punches, and it took a lot to actually embarrass her. However, she’d been struck with the absolutely brilliant idea of surprising her lover at work. Because otherwise, she would be waiting a long time, as the other woman tended to get really involved in what she was doing.
She'd put on a coat that went down to her knees, and her legs were bare except for combat boots. She slid out of her humvee and approached the building, a smirk on her lips.
Liara was rather tied up in her work, so it took one of her colleagues mentioning she had a ‘visitor’ to drag her out. It wasn’t like you tended to get visitors in this line of work, so... there was only one woman it could be.
Honestly, the things Shepard got up to without her. She couldn’t help a slight smirk when she came out - was she that impatient to see her? “I think this is the first time you’ve come out to see me at work...”
"Well the phone systems seem to be messed up and one of my texts went to the wrong person. I figured I'd come down and make sure you didn't work all night."
Shepard slipped her arms around Liara, and shifted the top of her coat to give the woman an interesting look straight down.
To Liara’s credit, she didn’t devolve into full-blown flail once she realised. She did, however, turn several rather interesting shades of red. “I... think that’s one way to guarantee I’ll come home sooner than usual.”
By the goddess, this woman had it in for her sometimes.
Shepard grinned. That Liara wasn't flailing was absolutely hysterical. She tugged on Liara's elbow, saying suggestively, "How private is your office?"
Really, all she'd need was sunglasses and she could be The Flasher.
If Shepard ever thought of flashing anyone but her, she was going to get a nasty biotic surprise. Or tied to the bed, which’d inevitably go terribly downhill.
It took Liara a moment or two to remember quite how to speak. Damn her. “It’s... probably more than private enough. Nobody ever barges in...”
Largely because interrupting Dr T’Soni in the middle of her work tended to mean terrible, terrible revenge at a later date.
If Liara had a jealous streak, Tyra would be quite happy to see it. And maybe a little turned on. She hooked her arm through Liara's and kissed her cheek, "Well then, Dr. T'Soni, please show me this dark cave that keeps you from the rest of the world?"
“It’s a surprisingly well-decorated cave, at least...” Liara was desperately trying to will the blushing down, not wanting to attract that sort of attention with a practically-naked Shepard next to her. “No fertility idols, though, thank the goddess.”
Honestly, she’d seen that damned thing enough at home. Mostly because a certain Commander seemed to find it kind of hilarious.
"I might have put yours up on the mantle," Shepard said, with all the casualness of discussing what's for dinner. She followed Liara into her office, and locked the door behind them. She reached into a pocket and turned her phone off. With the network going haywire anyway, she didn't want to be interrupted.
That could almost seem like a ‘we should get started on the little blue babies’ sort of suggestion. If anything, Shepard was at least a little predictable... or, well, at least when it came to prominent places to put terrible things. “You just get worse and worse, Shepard. And yet, I love you.”
Probably more and more each day, which still served to surprise Liara. It probably helped that most of her dreams involving her were fairly... intense.
"I try," She replied, shrugging off the coat and revealing that yes, she was only wearing combat boots. "It's just so easy with you. Of course, I go easy on you, but that's because you're my soul mate."
The last part just slipped out, but Shepard didn’t regret it. It was true. One didn’t simply find a woman this wonderful, in two worlds. Fight with her, fight for her, have her be one of those things that kept her going through the darkness, and not realize it was meant to be.
The terrible antics with the idol were going easy on her? Really? Naturally, that thought vanished the moment she looked at Shepard properly... what was it about this woman that kept making her fumble for words? Was it just one of her myriad insane talents?
She did manage to tear her eyes away for a moment, though, to manage something a little more serious. “I don’t think I believed in anything like that before I met you... you always seem to change people for the better.”
Shepard. Making Asari scientists forget how to speak since April 11th, 2154.
"You're the better one, Liara. You always were, and you always keep me grounded in reality." She took Liara's hands and squeezed them, then kissed the palms.
Liara blushed, just slightly. How could she still manage to be romantic when stood mostly-naked in her office? “Well... our version of reality, at least. I’m not sure most other people have lives involving... well...”
She let her biotics spark just a little, probably not enough to zap Shepard. She was more than thankful she’d largely got them under control.
The effect made Shepard growl a bit, and she took Liara's wrists, pushing her towards the desk, and pinning her against it, "Do you think you're strong enough to embrace eternity yet?"
Oh, really now? Liara made a mental note to remember that, just for future reference. She couldn’t help a slight smirk at Shepard’s words. “I think it’s about time we tried. If only so I can make you lost for words all over again.”
Her eyes dilated as Liara's words sunk in a little, and she took a deep breath. As intense, as real as the dreams were, they were still memories of another life, and could never quite be the same as actually experiencing it.
"I'm ready.."
Whilst Liara was by no means as powerful as she was in her dreams - not yet, anyway - embracing eternity was hardly the most taxing thing an Asari could do. Especially not when they were with their bondmate.
She raised her hands to Shepard’s temples, keeping the pressure light as possible. “Then... embrace eternity.”
Her eyes flickered to black for the first time. Even with this, she was hoping to the goddess that she had enough strength to pull it off.
"Oh...Liara," Shepard breathed, her voice echoing in her ears. Everything around them fell away, until all that remained was an eternity, together.
