When Esther had told Freya that she knew of someone who might be interested in helping with the nonprofit she was doing with Percy, she had accepted it at face value. Sure, Esther always was planning something, however Freya was rather used to these sorts of meetings. Besides, perhaps in some small way it was her mother either trying to make amends (doubtful) or trying to gain favor by offering her support (more likely). Whatever Esther’s ulterior motives might be though, Freya wasn’t about to turn down the chance to meet with someone who she was led to believe was wanting to help with the nonprofit.
So Freya thought nothing of it when she mentioned the dinner to Klaus as she was leaving. After all, it wasn’t uncommon that Freya would pull all sorts of hours with her work and projects and that sometimes fancy dinners were part of it. Especially when looking for donors or partners or anything of the like.
Of course, once Freya was at the dinner, it started to become clear that she had been misled. The conversation had started normally enough, but as she tried to talk about the nonprofit and its aims of helping battered women get back on their feet, it was clear that her dinner partner was not interested.
“I’m sorry, am I boring you?” Quirking a brow, Freya leaned back in her chair to see what the answer would be.
The second Freya mentioned a dinner that Esther set up Klaus was suspicious. He highly doubted Esther just wanted to help Freya out with a business connection. Their mother was manipulative. She always had an ulterior motive. Yes, Klaus was known to be paranoid and perhaps following his sister to the restaurant and getting a booth in the back corner was letting his paranoia get the best of him. But he’d be damned if he let Esther manipulate his big sister.
It seemed as though his suspicion was correct. With his vampire hearing he was able to listen to Freya’s conversation with the man. He clearly wasn’t interested in her non profit. Even more evident in his next statement.
“Oh no,” her ‘business contact’ replied. “You’re far from boring. I’d rather hear more about you,” he stated sliding a hand on her knee under the table. Klaus heard the statement, but missed his actions. He was too far away to see what the guy was doing under the table, even with he close eye he was keeping on his sister.
Did this jerk really just…. Of course he did and so Freya promptly removed his hand from her knee, eyes narrowed.
“Touch my knee again and I will remove your hand.”
Her voice was hard and it was clear she was unamused by the current state of affairs going on.
While Klaus couldn’t see what was going on he certainly heard his sister’s words, and her tone. The hybrid could feel himself getting angry. It was all he could do to remain in his booth, observing. Oh, how he wanted to rip this assholes throat out. But it sounded like his sister had it under control. She was a witch. She could handle herself. Logically he knew this, but he still couldn’t control his anger, or help how protective he was of her.
“Come on, I know this is what you want. Your mother-“
Klaus didn’t even wait for him to finish his sentence. The second he heard the guy mention Esther he was up from his booth and across the restaurant in the blink of an eye. “This business dinner is over. Time for you to go.”
Was the wind picking up outside? It was possible. Even though Freya did have more control on her magic, she was now completely tense and could feel a headache coming on. Which apparently meant a brief pick up of the wind as this idiot started to speak. She didn’t have to hear his words to understand his intent, it was all in his tone.
She also had no time to respond to point out to this idiot that her mother had told her that this was a business meeting because suddenly Klaus was there. Did she even want to know? At the moment, probably not. Which was why Freya just pinched the bridge of her nose and let out a slow breath before looking at the idiot across from her.
“It would appear we were both given false pretenses for this dinner by my scheming mother. So yes. Time for you to go now.” Before she made his brain melt.
Brody was all about making the best of bad situations. Especially with a woman as gorgeous as Freya. He was a confident one too, not caring about the ex or whoever the hell this guy at their table was. Brody was the type that got what he wanted. “You know,” he said placing his hand back on her leg. “We can always make the best of it.”
That was way too far for Klaus. “I believe my sister told you not to touch her again,” he growled. He didn’t care that he was making a scene, Klaus never cared about that sort of thing. Klaus picked the man up out of his seat in a flash they were outside, in the alley. While he didn’t care about making a scene, he knew better than to kill in public. With that he snapped the asshole’s neck.
And before Freya could even respond to the hand that had been returned to her leg, Klaus was first making a scene and then….disappeared. Okay, that was definitely not a good sign. She didn’t have vampire speed and it wasn’t like the middle of a restaurant was a good place for transportation spells when she didn’t know where she was going. So it was instead racing out of the restaurant and to the alley just in time to see Klaus snap Brody’s neck.
“Seriously, Klaus? Was that really necessary?”
Part of it was just the shock of the situation. And trying to figure out how to fix this. And then just.. Honestly Freya didn’t know.
Klaus wasn’t worried about fixing it. He had compulsion now. He could get himself out of any situation he was put in. Make people forget he was there. Although he had no intention of compelling the entire restaurant. Hiding the body would be better. Not so obvious that Klaus had just took the man outside and murdered him.
As for Freya’s question. “Yes,” was all Klaus said looking at his sister over the dead body.
Freya really didn’t know how to respond to that. Of course Klaus would just say yes, like it was no big deal. He could have just used compulsion on the guy. But no. Murder. Letting out a slow breath, Freya ran her fingers through her hair.
“Right then.”
Note to self. Get Finn to verify Esther’s ‘contacts’ from now on. Honestly, she wasn’t shocked at the scheming, she just had been wrong on what Esther’s main goal was.
“Well, give me his wallet so I can at least pay for dinner with his cash. And you do...whatever it is you’re going to do with his body.” Like hell was she paying for a sham dinner with her money, but that didn’t mean she wanted the waiter to get in trouble for dine and dash or anything like that. There were definite ethical lines that were being crossed but Freya couldn’t think about that right now.
Klaus almost smirked. There was the sister he knew and loved. He grabbed the man’s wallet out of his pocket tossing it to Freya. Once she went back inside he got to taking care of the body. Not a bad day if you asked him.
