Who: River Song and Tony Stark What: Demon fighting Where: Some random street When: Demonic invasion. Warning: Demons and fighting. Status: Complete.
Well, later Melody was going to need to get on the network and take the blame for this one, wasn’t she? She’d been the one who had mentioned being bored and wanting something to happen and now there just needed to be demons who were invading the County. And it needed to be ruddy demons and not something that would have her in their data files so that she could threaten things away. No, instead she was going to need to go out and go hunting and killing them. Not that she particularly minded killing things, but she was more than a little worried that there were going to be innocent people who ended up caught in the crossfire.
Innocent people meant that River had strapped on her old gear and headed out to the streets in order to track what she could track and kill what she needed to kill. The gun that the dreams had delivered was strapped to her waist, and on the other side was the lightsaber that she’d purloined when she’d ended up killing General Grievous in the last invasion. In her hands, however, was the futuristic computer that had been the first thing to arrive, and she carried it in her hand, following the signal for things that didn’t happen to be from this planet. Normally she used it for tracking different sorts of aliens, and when it came down to it that’s what those demons were.
Suspecting that the demons were leading her into an alleyway in an attempt to ambush her, Melody smiled a very dark smile, the sort of smile that would put fear into men's hearts if they were wise. Demons weren’t wise, of course because they thought that they were scarier than she was. In the end, they were going to turn out to be quite wrong indeed. Seeing three ahead of her, River snarked. “Oh no, whatever do you happen to be?” It was all very dramatic, of course, and even more so when River pulled out her gun and fired multiple shots at them.
These were the times where Tony was at his best. He had his suit (a few of them, actually, from his different Dreams) and with a few modifications it was quite handy for alien invasions and the dead rising from their graves. He’d been flying the streets for hours, clearing the way for civilians to get through to safety, taking a perimeter of Stark Tower and defending the base, then heading to Baxter Bakery to check in with the locals taking shelter. Now he was headed back home after several hours of saving lives, when he saw a little patch of baddies in need of some punishing. But just as he was about to get out his blasters, there was the sound of gunfire. He paused and scanned the street, Jarvis 2.0 picking up on a very familiar, beautiful woman with a handgun.
He hovered in the air, watching to see how she handled the situation. Melody was quick with the gun, and her shots were very accurate thanks to the training that River had received for so long. Yes, it was never intended to be a bullet for him, but the Silence had still insisted that River be handy with that laser gun of hers and she’d shot her way out of situations so numerous that her husband might just end up having a stroke. The three undead hit the ground, and Melody still stood in a predator’s crouch. That had been too easy and she knew it because while these things were dead, they didn’t seem to be as stupid as all of that.
Which is why she was ready when two more appeared from the dumpsters, intending to launch themselves at her and her glorious hair. The one in front of her was met with a shot that send it’s head exploding into a mass of gore that Melody shields herself from with one arm across her face. It’s only a second before the other one comes too close for comfort and River shoots at the thing over her shoulder.
The bullets never made contact with the thing over Melody’s shoulder. Two beams blasted from Iron Man’s Gauntlets, laying the monster out at Melody’s feet. Tony lowered down and hovered not far from her, wondering if it was bad form to protect a woman who so clearly did not need protecting. His face mask lifted and he cleared his throat.
“You don’t need to thank me,” he offered up, playfully. “Just doing my job around here.”
Well, Melody had seen people wearing flying suits before (and of course there were legions of cybermen whom she’d run into in dreams) but she could rarely remember when she’d seen someone so handsome in one who hadn’t been forced into the metal because they were her husband and her former husband’s body was in need of a new head. Bloody hell there were moments where her lives were too complicated even for her to keep up with. Grinning at him for a moment before her gun was slipped back into it’s holster, River shrugged. “Well, it’s tough work occasionally being the damsel, but I suppose someone has to do it.” The humor she found in the situation was evident in her tone of voice, and Melody kicked the body of the monster at her feet before she stepped towards him.
“I must say that I’ve seen some impressive clothing in the past, but it’s been quite some time since I’ve such an impressive piece suit that also comes along with it’s own lasers.” A beat, “or some kind of concussive blasts?” Melody just smirked again before she added, “you know, darling you’re really going to need to let me try out a toy or two sometime.”
“I’d say you do it well--like you do pretty much everything well, so far as I can tell--but I fear that may come off the wrong way.” Tony smirked a little as he lowered to the ground to give his propulsion jets a rest. The machine landed gracefully on the sidewalk beside her.
“It’d take a while to explain, and I’m not sure we’ve got that much time before the next wave of monsters, so I’ll just invite you to my lab to check it out when we’re not currently in a battle-like situation.” Though, there was little to do with battle, and more to do with Tony blasting the heck out of creatures up and down the street. He gave her an award-winning grin. “Think you’d like to come have a drink with me in my lab?”
Melody understood that whole shooting things up and down bit; she’d been doing more of her fair share of that for a while before he had shown up. Of course, it was so much better that he was around to show off for. River Song was definitely a woman who loved to show off, and when one added her to Melody Williams who equally adored it? Well it was a recipe for a beautiful disaster in the making. Especially when there was someone as worthy as showing off for as Tony Stark was.
So she just gave him the look how much trouble I am grin that she had, and pretended to consider. “Well, I suppose if you asked me properly I could see fit to doing that.”
