“I don’t know how I’m not going to tell anybody” Izzy said to Audrey as they worked in the quiet bakery side by side. It was very early but they were both used to that as the lead bakeries of their respective branches of Audrey’s bakeries. “I want to shout out how awesome we are” she grinned as she looked over at the older woman with a cheeky look on her face.
They’d finished the recording of their episode of the cook off but it wouldn’t be shown until a week or so before Christmas and they had been sworn to secrecy.
Audrey gave a little laugh. “I know, right?” She grinned over at her friend and business partner. “It’s so amazing! I can’t believe it.” The memory of how well they’d done and the money they’d won was fresh in her mind. Of course, they wouldn’t see a dime of it until after the episode aired.
“We should start thinking about how we want to spend the money. I know BB1 could use a bathroom remodel. Maybe we can put some of the money into that?” Audrey asked.
“Me either. But we worked really well together. I’m so glad we took the chance and applied. You really are the best Aud” Izzy told her boss and friend with a bright smile.
“Oh that’s a good idea. I was thinking of maybe getting the chairs re-upholstered at my branch, just so they all match the decor we’ve got going on now” Izzy said, she didn’t think it would cost too much. In fact if they got the fabric she was pretty sure the girls at BB2 would find it a fun project to do.
“That sounds brilliant, Izz. I think we should definitely do that.” They’d won quite a chunk of change. Getting the seats fixed at BB2, and the bathroom snazzed up at BB1 would only dig a bit in. It really was quite the win.
“You think we should go back for the all-stars show? They’ve already sent us the invitation.” Audrey said, beaming. It would be playing for charity, not for cash, but the publicity alone would be worth it, right?
“Great, then the rest can just go back into the business for the usual stuff” she said, having it in the bank would definitely help especially if Audrey at some point wanted to open up a third location.
“Of course we should!” Izzy said enthusiastically, “It’d be great fun! And you know everybody would be rooting for us. We could even do themed cookies to sell for our chosen charity too for when it airs maybe?”
Having a cushion of extra money sitting around was always a good thing. Just in case they had problems. It was nice to be able to depend on that extra money. Or to do something special for their employees at Christmastime. Maybe something super nice. Audrey had ideas, but that could wait. They didn’t even have the funds yet!
“I hope so! I love that idea! Themed cookies! We’ll have to pick a charity. I was thinking something to do with children. Maybe the Children’s hospital?” Audrey laughed. “We should have a viewing party for when the episode airs in December. What do you think?”
“That sounds good, I imagine they’d definitely appreciate anything we can do for them” Izzy nodded, a children's charity felt right especially since Baxter’s was well known as a welcome place for families. “Oh that’s a great idea! I love it! I think it’d be ridiculously popular too”
“I think so, too!” Audrey thought for a moment. “We can bring out cookies just like we made on the show for snacks and have hot chocolate and other drinks? Think we could rent a big screen and a projector to show the episode?”
“Perfect” she said with a grin, “I want to go to that party already! I am positive we can rent a projector and screen, want me to look into it?” she offered.
“That would be amazing.” Audrey said, grinning brightly. “And I’ll see about organizing food and… should we advertise? Or keep it a semi-private event?” If they weren’t careful they’d have the place crowded with people. That might not be as much fun.
“Maybe semi-private? Like we could make a list of the most faithful customers we have those who help us out and who hire us for events repeatedly maybe? Never hurts to keep out network a little sweet” she smiled.
Audrey nodded. “Perhaps we have a pretty large guest list, and invite them to add plus ones? That way we can keep it fairly under control, and yet still spread the word.” Audrey paused. “I wonder if we should make this an occasional thing. If it works well, maybe we should look into it. Spend some of our winnings on a nice screen and projector. We have more floor space in the lobby at BB1. Should we hold it there?”
Izzy nodded thoughtfully, “Yeah make this a sponsor kind of deal but if people seem keen we could do indoor screenings of films or something, sell some hot chocolate and pastries and maybe charge an entrance fee that we can donate to a local charity” They’d make enough to cover their costs through the edibles they’d sell so raising a little extra for a charity would be nice.
“I think that’s a brilliant idea!” Audrey agreed, looking over at her friend. She dusted the flour off her hands and started to arrange the freshly decorated cookies onto trays. “I think these came out so lovely!” She added, motioning to the cookies.
“Everything you make comes out lovely” Izzy said with a grin, “But yes these do look especially nice”
