Who: Jean, Kitty and Wanda
What: Dress shopping
Where: Bridal shop
When: Mid November
Rating: Low
Status: Complete
Wanda had enjoyed researching dress options for her friend. After looking through this shop’s range, she’d picked out a few that she thought fit the bill that Jean had described. After arranging a time they could both make, they agreed to meet at the shop. Wanda wrung her hands together as she waited for Jean to arrive. The shop assistant had already given her a glass of water while she waited, and she’d finished that a few minutes ago. He’d made sure to arrive early to make sure everything was set up for Jean to just walk in and start trying the dresses on.
Was it too early to dress shop? Hardly. If anything, Jean wanted the dress out of the way as soon as possible. Not that she wasn't excited by it, but because it would free her to focus on other parts of the planning.
She didn't arrive alone, having asked Kitty to tag along. Besides Emma, Kitty was the woman she was closest to from her dreams, and she wanted her input. She didn't feel comfortable asking Logan to come alone, with their history both in the dreams and here in the waking world. (though she'd have Kitty text him pictures)
But no creative input from Kitty, god no, Kitty's fashion sense was awful, but just general reaction and moral support. And she thought Kitty and Wanda might get along.
At least Kitty wasn't particularly angry at Wanda for M-Day. She knew it wasn't the same Wanda, and she'd never held animosity towards Wanda for it. Probably another reason not to ask Logan along. Logan had tried to kill Wanda in the dreams once as it was.
"Wanda! Sorry we're late." She gestured at Kitty, "I don't know if you've met, this is Kitty."
“Oh that’s ok, I was here early to check everything was ready for you,” Wanda smiled and stood up, hugging Jean quickly before turning to Kitty. “Oh no, nice to met you Kitty,” she stretched out a hand to greet the other woman with a smile.
Kitty shook Wanda’s hand. “Nice to meet you too. In this life.”
Satisfied with the hug, Jean glanced around with clear desperation. “I’m going to admit that I have no idea what I’m doing.”
“You’re picking out a dress.”
“Thanks, Kitty,” Jean responded dryly.
Wanda didn’t really have time to ask about Kitty’s initial comment, having only a moment to frown before Jean was talking again. “It is going to be fine, I have asked Rose here to be your helper today,” she gestured to the sales assistant who stepped forward from behind her. “There is going to be drinks and snacks and dresses, but Rose and I are here to make sure your day is as relaxing and stress-free as possible,” she reassured her.
“I could kiss you.” Jean winked at her, and kissed Wanda on the cheek, just because. Then she rubbed her hands together and took a deep breath. “... Where do we start?”
Kitty tilted her head. “Well. What kind of style were you thinking?”
“I told Wanda some of it,” Jean said. “I wanted something flowey and less form fitting. With a neckline to make Emma jealous.”
“There’s a fine line between making Emma Frost jealous of your cleavage and being obscene,” Kitty quipped, and grinned when Jean shot her a look.
Wanda laughed at the two of them, looking back at Rose who nodded and started to lead the way. “So we have picked out a few dresses, which are slightly different styles but generally what you asked for. I wanted to try and figure out what you liked and what you didn’t, is that ok?” Wanda asked, following Rose and gesturing for Jean and Kitty to come as well.
They headed further into the shop and entered a large room with a dais in the centre in front of floor to ceiling mirrors. Along one wall there were several dresses hung up in their dark bags, waiting to be released from their confines and shown to the bride-to-be. “If you just put your bags down over there, then we can have a look at the first couple of dresses,” Rose suggested with a smile.
“That’s perfect,” Jean said, following along and feeling some definite nerves. “Lets start with the one on the left and work our way through them?”
There were only really two ways to compete with Emma, not that she needed to compete with her fiance, but she also knew Emma. It would either be that simple sort of sharp elegance, or something over the top flashy and covered in sparkly gems.
But maybe something in between, though Jean did have one thing she wanted. “I want floofy.”
“Floofy is nice,” Kitty agreed. “I think if I ever got married again I’d do floofy. I went with a white suit the last time.” She imagined Diana in white and it was a rather nice image.
“Ok, so, I wasn’t sure how ‘floofy’ was ‘floofy’, so I thought I would start out with this and work our way up, I hope that is ok,” Wanda explained as she unzipped a dress from the bag and brought it out for Jean to see.
Jean looked it over, immediately falling in love with it. “If this is the one we’re starting with, i’m not sure what else to expect. It’s beautiful. I love the pattern, and what it does to my arms and neckline.”
“You should at least look at the others,” Kitty suggested. “Just in case.”
Wanda beamed at her friend’s reaction to the dress, proud of herself for picking one successfully. “I am really happy you like this one, but Kitty is right, this is your chance to experiment,” she smiled, hanging the dress back on the rack. “What about this one?” she asked, unzipping and presenting another dress of a slightly different style for her friend to see
It was beautiful, but Jean thought that the style was definitely more Emma than her. She shook her head. “I might want to try both on, but I’m still leaning towards the first one.” She smiled at Wanda. “What’s next?”
“That’s the spirit,” Wanda nodded, replacing the gown on the rack again as Rose arrived and supplied Jean and Kitty with a glass of champagne. “What do you think of this one then?” she asked, unsheathing a third dress from its casing. “A bit floofier than the others, I think.”
If nothing else said ‘that was the one’, it would be the fact that Jean started crying. It wasn’t a lot of tears, just the watering of the eyes and some stray ones, but she couldn’t help it. “... That one is perfect. Lets try it on.”
She might end up crying more, but that was okay.
Wanda grinned, tears pricking her eyes at her friend’s reaction as she nodded and handed the dress to Rose who took it into a changing room for Jean. She picked up a glass of champagne as Jean went with Rose, and took a sip of it. “How am I doing so far?” she asked Kitty once Jean was in the changing room.
“Perfectly,” Kitty replied. She clinked her glass against Wanda’s. “You know, I’m told if we cry, that’s usually the best sign.”
So she tried to prepare herself for Jean to come out in that dress, and she wasn’t actually all that prepared. And there were indeed some tears.
Wanda had never had girl friends like this before. So when Jean stepped out of the dressing room with the dress on, she found herself swept away with the emotion of Jean and Kitty. It may have also been her telepathic powers to some degree, but she wasn’t analysing that right now. “You look beautiful. How do you feel?” she asked.
“I think we’re all crying,” Jean observed, wiping her eyes with her thumbs and doing a full spin. “I feel wonderful. This is the one.”
“I’m so happy!” Wanda grinned and shook her head. “I cannot believe we have found the one so quickly,” she laughed happily, stepping forward to hug Jean, carefully placing her feet to not step on the gown.
Jean hugged her back lightly, beaming now. “It clicks. It’s like you knew exactly what to look for. I know I wasn’t the most helpful person in describing what I wanted. I wasn’t even all that sure what I wanted.”
Kitty beamed through her own watery eyes. “Now I get to hold knowing what the dress looks like over Emma’s head, this is great.”
Chuckling, Wanda stepped back from her friend and shook her head at Kitty. “Well, whatever happens, I am definitely Team Jean,” she told her friends, and always would be.
