How’s your day?
Who: Kitty and Diana
What: Introducing Lockheed and tehgf
When: Recent
Where: Diana's
Rating: Pg
“You need to behave,” Kitty admonished, running her hand over the head of the little dragon on her shoulder. “You’re not allowed to be picky, you approved of Peter and that was a disaster. Besides, Diana is… amazing.”
Lockheed snorted, rolling his eyes.
“Shush. I mean it. She’s.. Like pure distilled goodness. She’ll love you.”
The dragon squawked, and Kitty started towards the door and knocked.
Diana ensured that the kittens were otherwise distracted. They were getting big and were increasingly more adventurous about exploring Diana’s home. Luckily they did keep to their litter boxes, for the most part. She was still needing to work on them with that. Mostly she suspected Apollo of being the one who didn’t quite prefer the litter box. Artemis was far more behaved than her brother.
Hearing the knock, Diana smiled and went to answer the door. She was wearing pants and a white blouse, casual for her. Opening the door, she smiled brightly at Kitty and the dragon on her shoulder.
“Hello there, beautiful,” she said, reaching out to stroke Kitty’s hair and lean in to give her a kiss in greeting. She then turned her attention to the dragon. “And hello there, handsome. Kitty has told me a lot about you.” She held her hand out to the dragon, intending to pet him but letting him approve or disapprove of the action first.
Diana somehow made casual look chic and sexy, but Kitty never minded. She chewed on her lip when she saw Diana and momentarily forgot she had Lockheed with her. If Diana hadn’t broken the kiss to address him Kitty would have just fallen into it for a few… years.
Lockheed squinted at her, tilting his head and flicking his tongue out. “Swack.”
He deigned to let her pet him and muttered, “Acceptable.”
Smile widening, she pet him, her fingers running along his head. “You are quite the handsome dragon. It is a pleasure to meet you.” After some moments, Diana pulled her hand away and stepped aside. “Please, come in and make yourselves comfortable. Is there anything I could get for either of you? Something to drink or eat?”
“I’m surprised, he doesn’t usually talk to me, let alone strangers.” Kitty felt guilty for never believing Wisdom that Lockheed had talked to him. Now she knew better, even if Lockheed felt content to not talk all that often. She didn’t really mind, it was still kind of weird to think about.
“Just a water. Don’t let him have any soda. He’s on a diet.”
Lockheed stuck his tongue out at her.
“Really? Well then, I feel special that he sees fit to speak in front of me.” Closing the door, she followed them both inside. At the mention of the diet, Diana tilted her head, looking the dragon over. “A diet? He doesn’t seem to need it. He looks just fine to me.” She said, but went and got some water, then brought it back for Kitty.
“Him and sugar don’t really get along,” Kitty said. “And caffeine… basically he has too much energy as it is.” She stuck her tongue back at Lockheed, who turned his nose up at her.
“Just like my cats,” Diana commented. “Still, he seems very calm and well-behaved currently.” She was definitely complimenting him. Diana thought he was quite handsome for a dragon. And she did want to be on his good side since she and Kitty were dating. It was very important to get along with each other’s animals.
“I’ll take it for now.” Kitty wriggled her shoulder, making Lockheed dislodge. He flapped his wings and darted through the air until he found a high place to perch. “He’s very independent, but I like him to meet my friends. At least he hasn’t stolen my phone to bother people with lately.”
That was a thing on occasion.
Setting the water down, Diana smiled, watching as Lockheed flew around and found a perch for himself. Of course, the sound of something flapping caught the kittens’ attention. They came scrambling across the floor from where Diana had left them. Apollo skidded right into Kitty’s ankle, letting out a mewl as he looked up at her. Artemis managed to stop before running into anything.
“He uses your phone? How very fascinating,” she commented as she looked down at the kittens.
“Used to send pranks to my friends. I changed my passcode but I’m sure he’ll figure it out eventually.” Kitt slipped her arms around Diana. Lockheed got along well with cats, in a lot of ways he was like one himself. He swooped down and promptly became the new best friend of two kittens.
“He might try to adopt them.”
Diana slipped her arms around Kitty, holding her close. “I shall be aware in the event you ever send me something odd.” Diana watched as the kittens made a new best friend and she grinned. “As long as I can see them sometimes, I am okay with that.” She laughed lightly.
Lockheed snickered, as if he were already planning something to embarrass Kitty. Or send Diana cute candids, anyway.
“How’s your day?” Kitty smoothed her hand through Diana’s hair, gazing into her eyes fondly. If she hadn’t already been certain she’d fallen head over heels, it was pretty obvious at this point.
“Better for having you in it,” she replied smoothly. “Though it was a good day to begin with. My mother is making plans to come visit, however. I just hope that she is here when things are not going crazy.” Diana didn’t want to have to explain OC craziness to her mother. It would be difficult enough weathering the inevitable storm that would come with her mother scrutinizing Kitty.
“You’ve realized you’ve cursed yourself,” Kitty pointed out. “Now something will absolutely happen that’s crazy, right when she’s here, and we’ll have to figure out an explanation. Although if it’s winter, then snow can be explained. Wishes, not so much.”
“Wishes? What sort of wishes?” Diana was versed in the crazy that tended to happen here, but she wasn’t versed in all the details. Wishes were something she didn’t know about. Kitty would need to enlighten her on them.
“Many kinds of wishes,” Kitty explained. “It’s a tradition. Shooting stars in December, and wished come true. It doesn’t last long…”
She thought about one of hers. To have her mother accept her. It had lasted a week, and then it had hurt worse to be rejected again. “And some wishes don’t come true at all. Can’t wish someone back from the dead.”
“What about world peace? Is that a wish that cannot come true?” Because of course Diana would wish for something like that as opposed to wishing for something for herself. Still, it was something to think about.
“Nope. It seems to be something tangible. Can’t wish for people from your dreams or past. I’ve seen people wish to stop dreaming, or forget their dreams. That seems to work. I wonder if you could wish for someone to have a peaceful week?” Kitty wasn’t sure. She just had an idea of what didn’t work.
“Interesting. I suppose it is something to think about, then.” Diana said. She would need to think about what she’d come up with to wish for. “What have you wished for?” She asked, curious and not knowing anything bad may have come of it.
“Well, my mother to accept my being with women.” Kitty moved over and hopped onto Diana’s counter. “To see Xi’an, one year. A quiet holiday another year.” Gaz once wished for a good holiday for Kitty with her family. She wasn’t sure if that had come true.
“I stopped wishing.” She shrugged. “It doesn’t last, and I don’t want to get my hopes up for anything anymore.”
The wish about Kitty’s mother was certainly something that Diana could understand would’ve been difficult to go through, especially when the wish wore off. “But is that not the point of the holidays, having hope that better things may come and enjoying the time you have with the people you care about?” Diana asked.
“Wishes can be a double-edged sword, but there is a time and a place for them. And if the wish is right, then it was meant to be.” There wasn’t anything that Diana wanted for herself. She couldn’t wish that Antiope was alive in her dreams, but perhaps she could use her wish to do some good for someone else in some way.
She moved to stand in front of Kitty. “Though perhaps if you want to be technical, you could always say you got your wish early this year?” She clearly meant in reference to their relationship.
Kitty shook her head, then leaned it against Diana’s chest. She found herself smiling into Diana’s shirt. “After a year or two of relationship mess ups and melt downs? Maybe you’re right.”
But there was a reasons she hadn’t even let herself dwell too long on her emotions with regard to Diana. She didn’t want to curse this one by falling too hard and fast.
Too late, but it didn’t count unless you acknowledged it. Or something.
Smiling, Diana stroked her fingers through Kitty’s hair when she leaned her head against her chest. “Perhaps it is still a bit early, but how do you plan on celebrating the holidays?” She wasn’t certain if Kitty would spend Hanukkah with her father or not. So best to ask first. Especially if Diana’s mother was going to be in town for any part of the holiday season.
“My dad is flying down this year,” Kitty said. “It’s always a little mix of everything. Xi’an was Christian so the kids celebrate Christmas, but they’ve learned to appreciate Jewish holidays too. I’m leaving it up to them what they actually want to do, if anything, with faith. I’m used to all the lights and trees from living in a shared dorm in my dreams anyway.”
“It sounds like you’ll have a nice holiday with your father.” She smiled. “That’s also good that you let them choose their own path in faith. Forcing faith on someone never works out for any involved.” Diana needed to decide what she was going to do for the holidays. Aside from baking various Greek desserts that were staples for Christmas and Epiphany, of course.
“I’ll makes sure to make room in my schedule for you,” Kitty promised. “The kids might appreciate you coming around one night. I’m not sure about my dad. I think he’d love you but I worry he’ll judge. I kind of...go through girlfriends like other people go through shoes.”
Kitty felt a momentary amount of guilt, and shame. Xi’an had died and she’d drifted from one relationship to another like she was looking for something that was just out of reach.
“Only do what you are comfortable with. I will not be offended if you would rather not introduce me to him. We can always do something later. The Epiphany on the sixth of January tends to be more of a focal point for me anyway.” Diana assured Kitty. “Though I do hope to have a chance to be different than your previous girlfriends and impress your father eventually.” Which basically was an admission that Diana wanted to be in this for the long haul.
“He wants me happy, and you make me happy. Maybe he doesn’t really care. Or just wish I’d settle down and stick with someone. I don’t know, he probably understands it’s not usually my fault. Even if it sometimes feels like it.” Kitty tightened her arms around Diana. “Promise if I do anything that’s like...self-destructive or subconsciously sabotaging us you’ll call me out on it?”
Diana looked at Kitty, running a hand along her back. “I promise. I do not take kindly to simply being pushed aside. I am known for being fiery in that respect.” And that went in all situations. How many times in her dreams had she chewed Steve’s head off already when he tried to seemingly weasel out of a promise or to tell her not to do something?
Kitty leaned her head up, pulling Diana into a kiss. She was so grateful for her, and the longer the dated the more relaxed she was about it when alone. When with Diana, everything usually washed away. But she felt more confident by the day.
Lockheed protested the affection, and Kitty broke the kiss to stick her tongue out at him.
She returned the kiss. Diana had her share of past relationships, but she hadn’t dated in a while. So this relationship with Kitty was something new, but she wasn’t going to run from it. On the contrary, she loved running head-first into these sorts of things.
Hearing Lockheed’s protest, she chuckled and looked over at him with a smile. “Jealous or do you simply not like affection shared between others?”
“He’s jealous.” Sliding her hands down Diana’s sides, Kitty leaned into her. “But he’s not activtely trying to get you, so I think you’re good. He used to steal an ex’s pants. And his cigarettes. Among other things.”
Diana chuckled, sliding her hands to rest on Kitty’s hips. “I shall take my wins where I am able, in this case,” she grinned. She would be happy not having to chase Lockheed around to reclaim articles of clothing he’d stolen from her.
Kitty would enjoy watching that. Maybe she could bribe Lockheed. Just the one time. “Do you have plans tonight? Do you want plans tonight?”
“No, I do not have plans tonight, and as long as the plans involve you, yes I would like plans tonight.” Diana grinned. She lifted her hands and brushed them along Kitty’s hair. “Do you have something specific in mind?”
Kitty looked at Diana thoughtfully, a clever smile on her face. “We could go out to dinner, and maybe sneak into places we shouldn’t be and do things that are very naughty in those places.”
Diana tilted her head. “What sort of places do you have in mind?” She did want to know what they were potentially getting into. Though she clearly knew what was meant by doing very naughty things in those places.
She just smirked at Diana, “Something classier than a lady’s room somewhere. I did it once in Big Ben.”
“Big Ben? Well, that is certainly a tall order to overcome,” Diana said. “Though I like the sound of that.” She returned the smirk. Diana hadn’t quite done anything like that with anyone, but as they said, there was a first time for everything! And she was willing to do that with Kitty.
“That’s going to be a surprise then,” Kitty responded. Anticipation could be an aphrodisiac.
