Who: Katou and Tamaki What: Flirting When: Procreation Temple day, September 24th Where: A cafe Warning/Ratings: PG-13 for suggestiveness Status: Complete
Tamaki was sitting at a table in his favorite Anaheim cafe, eating a cookie, and just enjoying the day. Something seemed to be in the air today with people, everyone seemed a lot more loving and affectionate. He’d gotten more than a few kisses from strangers while out and about. He’d have to tell Haruhi about today later and just hope that she wouldn’t be too mad at him. It wasn’t like he’d gone looking for people to kiss him. And she knew he was a flirt anyway. Just today it had been a lot more than normal - especially the number of people responding to him. He was enjoying it.

Katou had been disappointed when he realized that he’d missed out on a demon invasion, but apparently the Orange County was making up for that now. Day three of the alien invasion, and Katou was exhausted.
He was getting paid to fight these things, which meant that he was obligated to keep doing it. But hell, jobs involved breaks, and he was taking one now. He was sitting at one of the outdoor tables of a cafe in Anaheim, enjoying a cigarette, a sugary coffee, and a chocolate muffin. At least this street seemed relatively quiet so far, which was exactly how Katou liked his coffee and cigarettes.
A blond sitting at one of the tables caught his eye. He looked at least half Japanese, and was, by far, one of the hottest dudes that Katou’d ever seen. Normally he’d just settle for the eyecandy and mind his own busy, but today… well, today he was feeling a little more bold.
He slung his sword, which had been leaning against his chair, around his back, gathered his coffee in one hand and his muffin in the other, and, cigarette hanigng out of his mouth, made his way to the table. He put the coffee and muffin on the table, turned the chair, and sat down in it backwards so he could rest his arms on the back of the chair.
“Hey there,” he said. “You come here often?”

Tamaki smiled at the young man who sat down opposite him, eyes moving over him appreciatively. He was hot, there was no way around it and he was definitely intrigued by that metal arm. “Hey.” There was a French accent to his words, and despite his efforts to get rid of it there was a little bit of a Japanese tint from his father and all of his summers with him in Japan. It made talking with his relatives fun - but then their family was a bit of a mixup anyway so it would be fun talking with them no matter what he did. And probably why he and R and his maman tended to use French a lot when they were talking between themselves - habits and familiarity making it easier that way.
“Every chance I get. You?” He was definitely flirting with the other man, there was no way of mistaking that.
***
“Not really,” Katou said. “I just happened to be in the neighbourhood for work. Though,” he gave Tamaki a very obvious once-over. “I’ll have to make an effort to come by more often. Name’s Katou,” he said, offering his right, fleshy arm for a handshake.
***
Tamaki leaned back slightly, allowing Katou to look him over. He reached out to shake his hand. “I’m Tamaki.” He still wasn’t entirely happy having to use his Japanese name here in California but he was getting used to introducing himself with it. And he refused to introduce himself with his father’s last name unless absolutely necessary. He’d made a promise to his mother that he’d honor his father’s wishes about using his Japanese name instead of his French one.
“I hope you do. What kind of work had you in the neighborhood?”
***
“Me? Oh, you know, fighting the bad guys,” he said. Which was more of a job description than a job title, but close enough. “But hey, it’s hard work and I thought I could use a bit of a break. What about you? You work anything other than that shirt, Tama?”
***
“ “Fighting the bad guys? Are you a cop? Do you have a badge?” Tamaki asked, biting back the question about handcuffs that popped into his mind. He couldn’t ask him that. He had a girlfriend. That he really cared about. If he’d been single though? He’d have definitely been asking Katou about handcuffs. The guy was hot and he liked his style.
“This? You should see me in a button-up.” He told him with a flirty smile. Flirting was okay right? He wasn’t actually cheating on her. “I teach piano lessons.” He only had one student but it still counted as teaching piano lessons. In his mind anyway.
***
“Less cop and more secret agent,” Katou said, winking. Whether Tamaki believed him or not wasn’t really his problem, it didn’t change that it was still a pretty good pick-up line. He leaned back and looked at Tamaki, trying to picture him in a button up shirt. A couple of buttons up top undone to show off some chest. Katou nodded. “Yeah, that would be a nice sight. Would be even nicer if that button up was on my floor though.”
***
Tamaki leaned forward on the table a little bit. “Secret agent? Am I sitting with the areas resident James Bond?” He asked, curiosity helping propel him to get to know the man better.
Now was the time to tell Katou he had a girlfriend and he knew it but he didn’t say it. Something about today was encouraging him to keep that fact to himself. He was going to come clean to Haruhi about today when he saw her next but right now? He was just going with his instincts and his urges. “Head or foot of the bed?”
***
“Damn rights,” Katou said. Well, one of them at least. But there was no point in drawing attention to anyone who wasn’t Katou himself right now.
Katou smirked. “Definitely the foot of the bed,” he answered. “Ya know, I bet no one would miss me if I took off for a bit.”
***
Tamaki gave him a small smile at that answer, reaching for his drink so that he could lick some of the sugar off the rim of his cup with a flick of his tongue. “Oh yeah? What makes you think that?”
***
“I’ve got a good imagination,” Katou said. One that was already picturing the other things Tamaki could do with that tongue. “Though, I guess the only way to know for sure would be to test it out. Whaddya say, wanna see for yourself?”
***
Tamaki wanted to say yes. Badly actually but before he could - an image of Haruhi popped in his head. He’d worked so hard to convince Haruhi to go out with him, was still working to be the man they thought he could be. Free of his father’s influence and living the life he wanted. He couldn’t give in to his instincts. Even if most of him was screaming to go with Katou for a few hours and just enjoy what the other man was offering but he didn’t listen to that part.
“Why couldn’t you have made that offer a few months ago?”
***
Katou raised an eyebrow. He had been sure that this was going to be a sure thing, but now he wasn’t quite as sure. “Because I didn’t know you a few months ago.”
***
“A few months ago I wasn’t dating someone.” Tamaki said, his reluctance at having to turn the man down showing on his face. “And you have no clue how badly I want to say yes to you…” Whatever was making people act like this today, he was feeling a pull to be honest in why he was having to say no. He might just leave this conversation out when he was telling Haruhi about his day later.
***
Katou had had plenty of girlfriends in the past, but fidelity had never been something that he’d ever concerned himself with. In fact, back in his younger days he’d gone out of his way to sleep with his friends’ girlfriends, just to prove to them that their girlfriends weren’t worth getting all worked up over.
“Well, I won’t tell if you won’t,” he said, winking.
***
Tamaki let out a soft laugh, shaking his head as he gave the other man a half smile. “Tempting...Very very tempting. But I made a promise to not be the man I was before moving here.” True it had been a promise to himself but he’d still made it.
***
Katou let out a heavy sigh. He knew enough about changing from who you were to know better. Even if it was frustrating as hell. Dammit, all he wanted to do was get laid. What was a little sex between complete strangers?
“Fine, whatever,” he sighed. “You don’t know what you’re missing. You ever dump ‘em, gimme a shout.”
***
“You’ll be the first person I tell.” Tamaki said, the promise obvious in his tone. There was nothing wrong with having a back-up plan if things went to shit right?
