I need a vacation, what do you think would safest and won't end with me texting for help?
Who: Rogue and Kitty What: Kitty tries to cheer up Rogue When: Recently Where: Rogue's house status: complete Rating: PG
Rogue grumbled as she walked back into the house she shared with Kitty, throwing her keys on the table by the door and kicking her boots off. She’d taken a ride out into the desert and back but she’d been too paranoid to actually stay out long. Which only made her more surly then Logan on a good day. She really didn’t like the fact she was now a little skittish about being alone. Stupid Hydra. She really wanted to do nothing more than go kick them in their stupid faces. “I’m home.” she called out as she stalked further into the house.
Kitty shooed the kids upstairs, then came over to Rogue. She tilted her head, giving her a concerned look. “And how was today?”
“I took the bike out and just rode. My headache won't quit but that's normal.” She was going to have to get used to Kitty, at least, worrying about her. She'd let her in and she knew she'd not let her totally isolate herself now.
“Want an aspirin?” Kitty moved to go get the bottle, thinking that it could at least help. Her own adventures during the invasion had actually left her feeling a lot better. As long as she wasn’t alone, she could fight.
Rogue followed her. “Stop, kitty, that's not going to help. It's not a physical ailment. Thank you for trying but it's fine.” Rogue had been left on shakier ground, mentally anyway.
“Placebo effect?” Kitty suggested, tossing her the bottle anyway. “Wanna talk about it? I feel like I should go to school for this kind of stuff.”
She laughed softly and caught the bottle. “Not really, though this time I won't run off to Alaska. I would like to sort that mess out though, because I can't stop dreaming about it.” She nudged her friend. “You befriended the Rogue, shouldn't that have been an obvious career path?”
“Honey I’m an x-man, we’re all crazy.” Kitty grinned at her. “Just taking care of us would be a full time job.”
They really should have hired an actual shrink. Or six.
Rogue smirked, “pretty sure we're just a collection of crazy fuckers. How we get anything done, I don't know “ a few professionals. Maybe one for each. That might have helped.
“Ok I've got most of it down on paper, and I'm healed up, so no one gets to tell me I can't make hunting them down my hobby.”
“Wait, what are we hunting down?” It might be that Kitty was a little tired. “The people in your head? How many did you zap?”
Rogue cocked her head sideways then wave a hand. “Nevermind.” She turned the bottle over in her hands. “I need a vacation, what do you think would safest and won't end with me texting for help?”
“Disneyland.”
Rogue couldn’t suppress the shudder. “That… has never once gone well you know”
“First time for everything, right?”
Rogue actually leaned her head on the wall and very lightly head-walled. “So many people though.”
“You’re not going to zap them. Or any of them. It’ll go fine.” Kitty clapped a hand on Rogue’s shoulder. “Trust me!”
Rogue flinched, habit. She could control herself pretty well, a couple minutes if she was focused. Less if she was distracted. She'd been using her time with Logan to test those limits. But the idea still scared her.
“Yeah okay fine”
“How about this. It gets too overwhelming I phase you somewhere nice and quiet,”Kitty suggested. But Rogue needed to get used to people again. “At least it’s getting chilly enough for scarves and gloves, right?Unless you don’t want to go back to that.”
“I'll accept your terms. I'd rather not go back to that but it is safer. Maybe just gloves.” She replied with a sigh.
“Carry them on your person.” It was a compromise. A bit like a safety blanket. But this was also a better test of control then falling into Logan’s bed repeatedly. If Kitty was asked, she’d suggest finding someone who couldn’t heal.
Remove that particular safety net.
Rogue liked that safety net. She’d, before the hydra people crashed her vacation, only managed to kill one person and that was before her powers even kicked in. The thought of doing it again was not one she relished. Healing meant she didn’t need to panic. But she was also avoiding falling into his bed, so she was just avoiding it, period.
“I can do that.”
“Okay. I’ll get you up bright and early tomorrow?”
She groused a little but nodded. “Yeah that’s fine”
“Great!” Kitty threw her arms around Rogue. “It’ll be all right, eventually. I know it.”
Rogue tried not to twitch. “I’m better than I was last year. It’s an improvement, I’m not great though. I’ll get there.” she sighed, resigning herself to Disneyland and people.
“You’re acting like tomorrow is your execution.”
“You mean… it's not?” She teased before she ruffled Kitty's hair. “I'm teasing.”
“Keep this up and tomorrow really will be your execution!”
“What ever could go wrong?” She grinned as she wandered. “Seriously ill be fine.”
Kitty shook her head, but she let it go. Somehow, she thought it really wouldn’t be fine. But a girl could hope right?
