After the events of the previous week, the trio had decided that they needed to do something completely normal in order to unwind a little. Not only had they fought quite a few of the mercenaries, but Jem had been stuck inside the cafe while a tornado raged outside and Tessa had sustained a minor injury.
So unwinding was definitely something they needed, especially with the added stresses of Will and Jem returning to classes.
After trying to decide what they should do, they had finally agreed on a picnic in a nearby park. They were currently spread out on a blanket with a basket and food and Jem was playing his violin for Will and Tessa.
It was times like this that Will truly appreciated what he had. Laying on a blanket on the grass, his head pillowed on Tessa’s lap as they watched and listened to Jem play. His teacher training may be a pain in his ass right now but it would get better and he had the support of the most amazing boyfriend and girlfriend which helped beyond belief.
He smiled, linking his fingers with Tessa’s and bringing her hand to his lips to kiss her knuckles.
Tessa smiled gently down at Will as he kissed her fingers. She gave his hand a squeeze before looking back up at Jem. She loved these moments, they made everything they went through here worthwhile. “That’s beautiful Jem. Is that one of your own compositions?” she asked when he came to a natural pause.
Jem smiled as he watched Will and Tessa. There were times when he still couldn't quite believe that he was with them both and he was convinced that he must be having an incredibly crazy dream, but then they looked at him the way they were currently and he knew it was no dream.
Finishing the piece, he set the violin down in his lap and nodded, “It is. Just a little something I’ve been working on for class.” If someone had told him a few years earlier that he, not only, would be playing an instrument, but also writing music, he would have told them they were mad. Until his musical talent from the dreams had bled over, Jem couldn't play an instrument to save his life.
“Its beautiful” Will told him honestly, he was incredibly proud of Jem and never hid it. The dreams had given them all done amazing abilities but Jems was perhaps the most exquisite. “You'll blow them all away” he said affection obvious in his tone and on his face.
“It really is beautiful Jem, you should be incredibly proud,” Tessa agreed, running a hand through Will’s hair as she spoke. “You've come such a long way, my love,” she sighed happily, immensely proud of both Jem and Will.
“Thank you,” Jem felt his cheeks flush ever so slightly at the praise they gave him, “It’s not quite finished yet of course. I plan to have it finished for the end of the semester. So you’ll be able to hear the completed version then.” While Jem knew that Will and Tessa could be biased when it came to certain things in their relationship, he didn’t think they would tell him the piece was good simply because they were dating.
“We look forward to it” Will said with a smile, holding out his hand for Jem to take so he could tug him closer for a gentle kiss. “Don’t you think if every day was like this it would be perfect?” he asked them both once they were all settled together once again.
“But how would you know what a perfect day was if you didn’t have the challenging days to compare them to?” Tessa posited as she happily watched Will pull Jem down for a gentle kiss. “I know they’re rubbish, but they do make me realise how precious these sorts of moments are when they come around,” she smiled at them both, stroking back some hair from Jem’s forehead.
Jem set his violin down in its case before taking Will’s hand and allowing him to pull him forward. He smiled as their lips connected and kissed him back then settled down beside them both. There were still times when Jem became a little self conscience about PDA in public; not because he didn’t like it, but because he sometimes worried about what other people would think of their relationship. It was one thing to tell someone that he had both a boyfriend and a girlfriend, but it was another thing when people they didn’t know saw them expressing their love for one another.
“That’s a good way of putting it, Tessa,” Jem’s eyes closed briefly as she began stroking his hair, enjoying the feeling of her fingers as they brushed his scalp. It reminded him of the times she would help him dye his hair while he was sick.
Will, of course, didn’t give two hoots what other people thought. He was in love with two amazing people and he would be happy for the whole world to know it.
“Well fine if you’re going to use logic against my romantic proclamation” he smirked at them both, giving Tessa a wink.
Tessa laughed at Will. “I’m sorry Will, I didn’t realise we were in competition. Are we going to start having cute arguments about who loves who more now?” she asked, grinning brightly at him.
Jem laughed as he watched his two significant others, “I hate to break it to you, but you’re both going to lose, because I’m fairly certain that I love you more.” Not that it was hard to love either of them; Jem had been drawn to them both very easily and quickly and was glad that he had been.
“I wasn’t saying it was a competition, I made a dramatic romantic declaration and you decided to ruin it with logic. That isn’t competition dear Tessa” Will pointed out with a roll of his eyes but a grin on his face. “But since you’ve turned it into one I’m sorry Jem but I’m afraid I’m fairly certain I love you both far more than anything in the absolute whole universe”
Tessa sighed at them both and rolled her eyes playfully at the pair of them. As frustrating as they could both be at times, she loved them dearly and couldn’t imagine her life without them. “Alright, alright, enough of that you two, since we all know that you’re both wrong and I love you both more than anything in this world or the next,” she told them both resolutely. “Now Jem, would you mind playing us some more beautiful music that we could dance to?” she asked, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“Alright, I think it’s safe to say that we all love each other an equal amount,” Jem smiled as he moved and gave them each a kiss on the cheek before he got to his feet and retrieved his violin, “I think I know a few pieces you can dance to.” He readied the violin, resting his chin on the chinrest and set the bow to the strings.
Will was about to protest having to stand when Jem pressed a kiss to his cheek, happy with the more public display of affection than Jem was usually happy with he instead closed his mouth and stood, offering Tessa a hand, “May I have this dance?” he asked her with a grin.
Tessa took Will’s hand as she got to her feet then gracefully curtseyed to him, before stepping up to him and into hold. These were the days she lived for.
