Who: Maia and Morrigan
What: Morrigan finally takes a pregnancy test, and tells Maia.
When: Today
Where: Their home
Warnings: Pretty tame
At first, Morrigan hadn’t thought anything was different. Sure she’d had a bit of fatigue, her breasts had been on the more tender side of things and she’d been a bit moody. Of course, the moodiness wasn’t completely out of character for her, so she hadn’t really paid attention to anything until her period hadn’t come when it should have.
Morrigan tended to be quite regular with her cycle, though when it was a week late, she hadn’t been too concerned. However, when that stretched into two weeks late, that was when she started paying attention to her body. And she took in the knowledge from her dreams, and before jumping to conclusions, or even bringing it up to Maia first, she went and bought a couple pregnancy tests.
She sat in the bathroom, door locked, when she took them. While she waited, which seemed like forever, Morrigan was possibly having a mild heart attack. If she was pregnant, she knew exactly who the father was and when she’d gotten pregnant. While she and Maia had talked about having kids, she wasn’t certain how her fiancée would react to this unexpected turn of events. Morrigan herself didn’t even really know how to feel about it.
When it was time, she looked at the tests after taking a very deep breath to settle herself.
Positive.
Both tests were positive.
Part of Morrigan was elated, the other part was uncertain how both Maia and Logan would react to this news. But she’d start with Maia. Taking the tests, Morrigan headed out to find the other brunette mage. She held the tests behind her back.
“Maia? I need to talk to you,” she began.
Maia was entirely oblivious. Morrigan was mysterious and kept things close to her chest very often, and so she always waited for Morrigan to come to her Most of the time. Sometimes Morrigan needed a nudging.
Right now, she was focused on using magic to build a house of cards, “Of course, luv!”
To her credit, Morrigan appeared calm and collected on the outside. On the inside, it was an entirely different story. “You remember about a month and a half ago or so when we had that threesome with Logan? I...well...I’m pregnant.” Morrigan said, holding up the two tests she’d taken. She also braced herself for the cards to go flying everywhere.
“Oh yes, how could I forget that? So much stamina, it was like riding a-” Like a fast breaking car, Morrigan’s words sank in and the house exploded. About half the cards caught fire, but Maia ignored that and turned to stare at her fiance. “I’m sorry what?”
Well. The cards catching fire was also somewhat expected, but Morrigan didn’t know if that was a good sign or a bad sign. This was not the conversation she wanted to have, and it definitely wasn’t a conversation she was prepared to have. What if neither Maia nor Logan wanted this child? That was a thought running through Morrigan’s, among many, many others.
“I’m pregnant. Knocked up. With child.” Morrigan wasn’t being condescending or anything, she was mostly saying it to get it through her own head as well. This was not how she pictured this going. She really should have gotten a morning after pill after that threesome.
Maia stared at her for a moment, then burst out laughing at Morrigan’s choice of words and her generally dry tongue. She got to her feet, approaching Morrigan. “You’re not poking fun? You’re really up the spout?”
Morrigan gave Maia a pointed look. “I would never poke fun about being pregnant. And I wouldn’t fake pregnancy tests either.” Which she was still holding in plain view. And the question rubbed Morrigan the wrong way, though that was just the hormones causing that reaction. Logically, she knew it was a fair question.
Right. Maia finally looked at them, still in disbelief. “What’re the odds? The one time we’re with a man in however long and this happens? Did we shag superman? His swimmers some kind of champions?”
She took a breath, and met Morrigan’s eyes. “You okay? Are we okay? Is this okay?”
“Maker I hope not, otherwise my insides are going to take a beating.” She didn’t need some super-strong child kicking her like that. “I am still in shock. And that was going to be my question to you. I know we’ve discussed this, but this is not how I envisioned things going.”
“I had hoped for a little more planning,” Maia agreed. It was pointless to put her hand on Morrigan’s stomach, but she did it anyway. “I’m okay, if you’re okay. We’re going to be mums!”
When Maia put her hand on her stomach, something ran through Morrigan. It was a flood of emotions, similar to the emotions she’d had when she’d started viewing Kieran as a son and not as some tool to be used down the line. It brought tears to her eyes, and she pressed her lips together for some moments. “I’m okay. Shocked, but okay.”
And she’d need to tell Logan. Which she planned on doing once she got over these initial emotions.
A small part of Maia would always been a little jealous that the child wasn’t actually hers, but that didn’t really matter. The baby would still be hers in all the ways that counted. “I have so much time to make up for. I wish Leliana was still around, she’d be delighted.”
Morrigan rolled her eyes at the mention of Leliana. “If she were still here, she would not be allowed anywhere near me.” Her hatred of the woman had cooled over the years, but she still strongly disliked her. Luckily she hadn’t had much interaction with her while she was with the Inquisition. Morrigan’s focus had been on other things, as had Leliana’s, so they had kept their distance. Which is precisely how Morrigan liked it.
“Mm,” Maia said noncommittally. She still liked Leliana and a part of her enjoyed teasing them both (and everyone else she knew). “Not even to help you get maternity shoes?”
“No, decidedly not.” And at that juncture, Morrigan had to pause as something occurred to her. “Bloody hell, I’m going to be pregnant at our wedding.” And a very obviously pregnant. That would make dress fittings absolute hell for her.
“Do you want to postpone it? Or push it up?” Maia was happy with whatever Morrigan chose, though she thought Morrigan in a wedding dress with a great big baby belly. The thought, in fact, made her giggle. “You’d look fetching with a big belly in a dress.”
“I am uncertain. All I know is that dress fitting while pregnant may be hell.” Considering how her body would change, it would be difficult to keep up with the changes at times. “Though it would also be nice to be able to tell this child that they were, in fact, at our wedding.”
Maia laughed again, and gave into the urge to wrap her arms around Morrigan and spin her around. “Then it’s settled, she’ll be at our wedding!!”
It seemed like Maia was determined to have a girl.
Morrigan held onto Maia as she spun her around. She felt a little nausea wash over after it, but she didn’t have the urge to throw up. So that was a positive. “It could just as easily be a boy, you know.” Just as Maia was seemingly determined for it to be a girl, Morrigan was also equally determined for it to be a boy. After all, she already had a boy’s name that she could give him.
“I guess we’ll just have to be surprised and see.” Maia said, her expression alight with hope and mischief.
“Either way, I’ll love them as if they’re my own. And thank the Maker I’m not the pregnant one.”
“You may not be the pregnant one, but you have to deal with me being the hormonal one.” Which wasn’t going to be a pretty sight by any stretch of the imagination. “I should also tell Logan.”
“That’s fair. Both of those things are fair.” Maia bounced on her heels. “Oh, oh can we do it in person, I need to take a picture of his face!”
Unbeknownst to her, Logan would smell it before they had a chance to tell him.
“Of course we’re doing it in person, it’s not the thing you tell someone over a phone.” Even though Morrigan didn’t know Logan that well, it was still good manners to give this news in person.
“You have to admit that would be almost as funny. Almost.” Maia rubbed Morrigan’s back, figuring she’d need the practice. “Shall we invite the old bloke to dinner, or go out somewhere?”
“Perhaps go out somewhere.” Not that Morrigan thought Logan would get the wrong idea about inviting him over for dinner, she was definitely not wanting another threesome.
“Nothing too fancy, don’t want to mislead him,” Maia agreed, before adding. “Unless we do want to…?”
She had to admit she’d be happy for another go round.
“No, I do not want to.” Morrigan was not one who liked threesomes or sharing lovers. She still didn’t know what had come over her that day, but she definitely didn’t want that again.
“Then we don’t want to,” Maia assured her. While it had been nice, and really absolutely amazing to be quite blunt, but she valued Morrigan more than any roll in the hay with a man. To be quite honest, while she preferred anything consenting with a pulse, she preferred women even more.
“Do you have any place in mind that could work?” They’d need some place that provided at least a little privacy for their talk. She hoped that Logan would be relatively calm about it. If he wanted a role in the child’s life, she’d certainly allow it, and if he didn’t, then that was fine as well. She just hoped he didn’t make some dramatic scene about it.
“I think I can find a quaint little cafe for us.” Maia lifted her hand, stroking it through Morrigan’s hair and gazing at her adoringly at at the same time. “Tomorrow? I’d like us to celebrate tonight, just the two of us.”
“Tomorrow will be fine.” Morrigan smiled at Maia, leaning into her touch. “And I like the idea of celebrating.” Without alcohol on Morrigan’s part, of course. Also she’d need to make a doctor’s appointment in the near future.
