The last couple of weeks, since the last Orange County hijinks, Martha had been acclimating to her new position as the head of the Medical Department at the Agency. She had never actually been in a position of authority before, but, surprisingly, it had come more naturally than she had expected. It helped that she didn’t really have to boss anyone around. She had been working with the others in the department for some time now and just because she was the head of the department now didn’t mean that any relationships really needed to change.
One thing Martha did need to do now that things had settled down, was recruit some new colleges. Considering the things that happened in Orange County, it didn’t hurt to have a fully stocked medical department. Whether it was for administering medical help in the field or at the Agency or doing various tests on things that came in, having a fully staffed group was the best situation.
Working at the Agency and being on Valarnet, helped Martha weed out the potentials and find out where she could find them. In this case, she had used a few Agency connections to get into the Medical Examiners office where Olivia Moore was currently employed.
Liv had easily settled back into her career and life back in Orange County. Luckily her boss had taken her back, she still got to work with the same detectives. Some of her friends were still around, but she had been making new ones as well. Basically, Liv had no complaints.
She was currently sterilizing one of the autopsy tables when a woman walked in looking for her. “Can I help you?” Liv asked looking over at her.
“You’re Olivia Moore, right?” Martha recognized the other woman from the files she’d acquired from The Agency, besides she’d known that the other woman would be alone at the medical examiners office that afternoon otherwise she wouldn’t have chosen that moment to come make her this particular offer. The Agency may not have been quite as secret as some thought, but she wouldn’t want to bring this up around anyone who may not be a dreamer or familiar with them and the things that went on in the OC. “I’m Dr. Martha Jones. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yeah,” Liv confirmed. “That’s me.” It wasn’t all that shocking that this woman knew who she was given she had shown up in the morgue and Liv’s lab coat had her name on it. It was blatantly obvious to Liv that this woman was looking for her specifically. “Nice to meet you too, Dr. Jones. Did you need something?”
“Sort of.” Martha wasn’t really sure how to go about this sort of thing, but she figured that if Liv was a dreamer than she more than likely knew about The Agency so she might as well just go for it, “I head the medical department at The Agency. I’m sure you’ve heard of it by now.” She wasn’t entirely sure how long Liv had been a dreamer for, but she assumed it had been long enough, “Long story short, I’d like to offer you a position there.” She watched the other woman for any sign of a reaction as she spoke.
Liv had heard a bit about The Agency. She didn’t know much, but she knew they dealt with dream related issues and all the other weird shit that seemed to happen in this place. But her work there? She had never even considered it. “Doing what?” She couldn’t help the confused look on her face. She was just your average crime fighting, medical examiner, zombie. Were there murders The Agency handled?
“We more or less operate like a private practice, but we also do medical experiments on tissue and specimens when things that aren’t quite normal attack,” They didn’t do quite as many experiments as say the science department, but it was always good to know how other things ticked and when various diseases or poisons were a part of the OC weirdness, the medical department was there to find a cure or antidote. “We also do autopsies on occasion and I have a tendency to see other dreamers when they can’t go to a regular hospital.”
“So you would need me for help with autopsies?” She wasn’t really great at doing medical experiments on tissues. In her dreams that had always been more Ravi’s thing. Trying to find a cure for zombieism and all. As far as seeing live people? Well Liv had only done that on occasion, mostly when it came to stitches. Ever since her residency she avoided treating others at all costs. And given Dr. Jones had come to find her in a morgue it had to be that.
Martha nodded, “To start. I mean, we do so much that it’s a lot easier to show than to tell, know what I mean?” She could say they did medical experiments and saw patients on occasion, but one would have to actually see the medical department to really understand everything that they did, “If you’d like to come see the place first, we can arrange that.”
Seeing the place sounded like a good idea. If she was going to work there she’d like to at least see it first. Which led her to another question. “Could I still work here?” Liv loved her job. She didn’t want to leave it. She had access to brains and she got to help bring justice to those who might not otherwise get it. It made her feel a little less guilty about having to eat their brains.
“I don’t see why not.” As far as she knew, there were other people who worked at the Agency who still had civilian jobs, so it didn’t seem like a strange request to her at all. In her case, working at the Agency had simply worked out better than the hospital. “It also wouldn’t hurt to have access to the medical examiner’s office.”
Liv could work with that. She wanted to do whatever she could to help others this was just another part of that. “I can work with that. Let me know when to come by.”
