WHO:Blossom & Tyler WHEN: {backdated} First day of the Temple Plot WHERE: Out and About WHAT: Tyler and Blossom battle some mercenaries, injuries happen WARNINGS: Low; mention of non-fatal wound, blood drinking to heal STATUS: Complete
Tyler wished that he the Orange County would actually get some warning before shit hit the fan. Like maybe âHey, donât plan a date night, aliens are going to be invading today.â But of course, that would be asking for too much.
But at least date night didnât need to be completely ruined. Tyler wasnât the type of guy whoâd go looking for aliens to fight, but if they came to him he was more than happy to take them out. And with Blossom at his side, and his hybrid powers, he was sure that there was nothing that they couldnât stop.
Tyler rushed back to Blossomâs side, fast enough to not be much more than a blur, after having snapped the neck of one of the alien creatures. âSorry about date night, babe,â he said. âThis isnât really the night I had planned.â
In some ways, date night wouldnât be date night without something chaotic happening in Orange County. At least once every few months something seemed to be trying to destroy their home. But at least enough of them were able to fight them off, battle back the madness and all that.
âWhen do things ever go to plan here?â Everything was a little crazy, and Blossom was worried that she was starting to get used to aliens, but she was. Another group of soldier type aliens were beginning an attack, and Blossom grabbed the nearest car to tip on its side as a shield to duck behind.
âItâs just like old times, right?â Fighting off all the strange things that descended on Orange County together was almost a date night itself.
Tyler ducked behind the car with Blossom. He wasnât too worried about being shot by these guys - he healed instantly and was more or less indestructible - but he could still feel pain and that wasnât something he was looking forward to. âLike that time we nearly destroyed my work place fighting demons. Ah yes, these are the memories weâll tell our grandkids someday.â It wasnât until after Tyler said it that he remembered there werenât any grandbabies in their future. Unless someone all hybrids could procreate, but he had the feeling that was just a Klaus thing.
He pulled his mind away from the future - a topic he didnât really want to think much about in general - and back to the present. âIâll go left and draw their fire if you want to take them out while theyâre distracted,â he said.
Blossom remembered that rather interesting thing, the demons at Victrola had been one of her first battles with her powers, enjoying being able to defend people and help with things. Now it seemed like most people were constantly out there, fighting against the latest things that came into Orange County. Although the mention of grandkids made her falter just a little.
Not in a bad way. She hadnât really given much thought to if Tyler could still manage things like that, she hadnât really given much thought to kids herself just yet, although she was fairly sure she wanted kids someday.
She came back to things with Tylerâs plan of drawing fire, Blossom giving a nod in agreement. She could get the height if he drew their attention, fly upwards and blast them with her beams. âOkay, on three? But be careful.â He was more durable than ever, but she still didnât want to see him get hurt, even if they did make a really good team.
âIâm always careful,â he assured her, which wasnât a lie as far as he was concerned. He was as careful as he needed to be. His wounds healed nearly instantaneously, so taking a few of these shots wouldnât be much more than a minor inconvenience. They werenât even using bullets.
On three, he dashed out into the road, running at a quick but human pace. âWhatâs up, bitches?â he asked as he broke cover, attracting their attention.
Careful did seem to be very relative around there, people had varying levels of danger to them and that meant people could reasonably work out their own level of careful. It didnât mean that Blossom worried less of course. As Tyler drew attention his way, Blossom tried to remember that he was far more durable than normal people, they were both more durable -they werenât impervious, but it was decidedly close. Drawing their fire and attention meant that Blossom could take to the sky with a pink blur, halting with enough ground to use her eye lasers to attack.
It took more than one blast, so Tyler drawing their attention was a little split when she had to fire at them. Dodging the blasters while shooting one and then taking aim at another when the first finally went down, Blossom trying to up the power behind her lasers so that Tyler wasnât in more danger.
Tyler was able to dodge a lot of the laser blasts, but he still took some damage. Of course, the wounds began to heal almost as soon as they were made, so he was able to shrug them off with no problem. It was a little fun, dashing in once in a while to snap the occasional mercenary neck.
He took a moment to appreciate his girlfriend and her pink lasers. That ended up being a mistake. While brushing off wounds wasnât too bad, fatal wounds took a little longer to recover from. So, when one of the mercenary's lasers hit him in the temple, he dropped like a sack of laundry.
Logically, Blossom knew the Tyler was fine. She knew that these things couldnât really kill him. But logic went out the window when she saw him take a hit to the head and fall. âTyler!â The lightning bolts shot out aimlessly as Blossom hit a panic, striking mercenaries just as the hit cars, lights and buildings.
Dropping from the sky, Blossom landed just by Tylerâs fallen form, shooting beams from her eyes at anything that moved right then. She was trying to rationalise in the heat of the moment, remember that he was going to be fine, but the racing of her heart and lump in her stomach wasnât slowing or shifting right then. Even as hot beams from the mercenaries struck her, searing parts of her more durable skin and sending flares of heat and pain into her, Blossom just let her lasers kept shooting.
Tyler came to with a gasp just a few moments later. The first thing he noticed was that he still had a bit of a headache, but he knew that would fade within the minute. The second thing he noticed was Blossom, standing between his body and the mercenaries, covered in injuries and taking more damage even as he laid there.
âBlossom!â he cried, leaping to his feet. âBlossom, Iâm fine. Itâs time to get out of here,â he said, moving so that he could pick her up and rush them out of there with his hybrid speed.
It was probably just as well that Tyler could move them quickly, because right then, Blossom wasnât sure if she couldâve flown them both out of harms way. It was unusual that she took damage like like, but the heat of whatever guns were being used and her not quite fully unlocked durability seemed to find that weak area and exploit it.
She didnât think it mattered, sheâd been more worried about Tyler than herself, logic or not. Sheâd seen him take a hit and go down and her heart just lodged in her throat and nothing else really mattered.
But the adrenaline had ebbed away and she was really starting to feel the sting of it. âIâm starting to hate adrenaline.â She knew it acted as a sort of override in the moment, enough that Blossom could forget that Tyler was effectively immortal and she definitely wasnât. Curling a little into Tyler, clenching her teeth from the pain, she just tried to not think about it. Even though that wasnât working either.
It didn't take long for Tyler to find an empty building to duck into. He let Blossom down gently, and winced once he got a better look at the extent of her injuries. On one hand, he was glad he was dating a superhero, as he was sure that if she hadn't been she probably wouldn't have made it. On the other hand, if she didn't have these powers she probably wouldn't have come out in the first place.
âAt least it kept you on your feet,â he said, the worry evident in his voice. He took a moment to smooth her beautiful red hair, glad that heâd woken up before it was too late to heal Blossom. He protracted his fangs and ripped into his wrist, then held it near Blossomâs lips. âHere, drink this,â he said. âIt will make you feel better.â At least, he assumed it would. He'd never actually healed anyone in his dreams, but he couldn't think of a single reason why it wouldn't work.
Blossom was really just as thankful that she had someone like Tyler, someone who put other people ahead of himself, who tried to help anyone he could. She was raised as a superhero in her dreams, and sheâd adopted that here, but Tyler chose to do these things as heâd changed.
The offer of blood was a little bit startling, but the aching in all her limbs and the burning in her wounds stopped Blossom from actually arguing at all. It was a little gross at first, until she stopped thinking about it and then it just tasted like that metallic tang when she bit her own tongue. The fact that her aches quickly stopped and the wounds started closing before sheâd even moved back from Tyler showed that it was definitely better than arguing.
âWow,â sheâd never actually experienced anything like that, she couldnât even liken it to anything else that she knew either. âI⌠feel amazing.â She felt brand new, like nothing had even happened at all.
Relief flooded through Tyler as Blossom started to heal. Once she pulled away, the wound on his wrist closed like it had never been there, and he leaned forward to give her a kiss. âThatâs because you are,â he said. âBut if you die while my bloodâs still in your system, youâll turn into a vampire. I think we should call it a day.â The last thing that Tyler wanted was for that to happen. Besides, he had been done with this whole fighting thing the moment heâd seen Blossom get hurt.
âOh yeah, letâs not do that.â She had no problem with vampires at all. Bubbles was dating one, her boyfriend was a mix of vampire and werewolf, there wasnât a problem. But sheâd rather not battle her own blood lust right now either. âCâmon then, Iâm definitely able to get us going now.â She felt like she could fly the globe right then, not that she would try. But getting the pair of them somewhere safe, she could manage no problem.
