Rose’s flat had never been so clean...well, except for when she had first moved into it. She had gone straight home after work and started the cleaning process, making sure everything was swept, wiped down, and sparkling. She was having Match over for a movie night and she wanted to make sure everything looked perfect. He had been gracious enough to take her out to eat and then provide the picnic lunch that she felt it was her turn to host and was more than happy to have him over. She didn’t want to show him what a slob she was and a quick tidy of her small living quarters made it feel like a whole new home.
Glancing at her bedside clock, she jumped into the shower to get ready for their third date...if it was a date. She felt it had been a bit obvious that she had enjoyed their time together, perhaps a bit more than new friends would classify it. When they were at the beach, she had discovered that he was single and found she was pleasantly happy to hear.
As she was pulling on a tee and some jeans, she heard the knock at the door and grinned, glancing at herself in the mirror before going to answer the door.
“Hey,” she said, opening it up and beaming.
***
Match smiled at her, eyes warm, flowers in one hand, which he held out to her. They were in a small vase of water, and he nodded to her. “Hey. I got these for you.” Under his other arm was a large platter of brownies, still hot-ish.
He had flown over and his hair, while short, was wind-blown. He wore a nice shirt and jeans also, and sandals as well. He smiled at her as he stepped in.
“How are you?”
***
She felt like an idiot for how much she continued to smile around him, but it only grew as she took the flowers from him. “Thanks,” she said, stepping aside to let him in. “They’re beautiful.” Shutting the door behind them, she lead them into her home, setting the flowers on her round dining room table. “Perfect, yeah?” She glanced at him before she saw the brownies he had brought as well. “Ooooh, brownies too?” He really knew how to treat a girl.
“It was a busy day today, but it was good. Happy to be off and able to relax with you! Can I get you something to drink?”
***
He was grinning as well, and he loved her smile. “You have a beautiful smile.” It just kind of slipped out, and he hadn’t meant to say it, but he stood by it. She had gorgeous lips.
“Absolutely perfect.” He smiled softly at her, and he only then looked to where she put the flowers.
He nodded, holding them out to her. “I thought we could use some sugar while we watch the movies.”
***
Rose was able to hide her blush as she took the plate of brownies from him, the grin turning a bit bashful as she set them on the counter by her fridge. “Sugar is always a good thing to have, especially in the form of brownies! I also have some popcorn and fruits & veggies so we have a few options.” She hadn’t planned a fancy dinner, but more finger foods they could nibble on while they relaxed at home.
“I don’t have too many movies, but I have all the streaming channels, so I figure we could find something suitable. Just nothing scary.” She made a face. “But you’re the guest so you have first choice!” She opened some cupboards and started to pull some bowls and glasses down, standing on her tiptoes to get to the highest shelf to pull down a tray to put everything on.
“What should we start off with?”
***
Match smirked, and nodded. She looked amazing, and he was glad to be there. And he listened to her, and grinned wider. She had planned ahead, and logically, smartly. He liked that. This was going rather well.
“I like your options. Very much.” She spoke and he listened, and he chuckled. “I will be glad to watch whatever you have. I don’t know a lot about movies. I have actually never been to the movies, or rented one. I know, that sounds weird, but… I just never got around to it. I was raised in a poor foster home, and then went directly to working.”
He paused, then shrugged.
“Something you like, to start, maybe?”
***
Rose opened her fridge and frowned, glancing at her countertop to see if she had a few bottles of red wine sitting out. “Do you prefer red or white?” She reached up again, lifting two wine glasses down and setting them on the tray. She would let Match choose what sort they would start off with before choosing what snacks to go with them.
She raised an eyebrow at what he said, but tried not to sound too surprised at the fact he hadn’t seen something he worked in the industry for. “Really? What motivated you to become an actor then?” It was an interesting situation and Rose wondered what the first movie she should show him should be.
She leaned against the counter, thumbnail in mouth as she began to think about what they could watch. Romance seemed a bit too on the nose, but she didn’t want to keep it so light as a comedy. “Would it be too childish if we watched a cartoon?” She glanced over at him, a shy smile on her face. “You know Disney? They have some really cute movies out. I think you may like some.” Really, she couldn’t say as she didn’t know his preferences, but he seemed pretty open. Having not seen any other kind of movies, she wanted to make sure the first one he saw was a good one.
***
“Either is fine. I’m not a master of wine taste. I guess red? If that is convenient.” He had no idea what they tasted like. He was new to drinking, really. He had never had a reason to drink since he couldn’t get drunk.
Match chuckled at her question. “Nothing did. Actually, I just got an offer while doing a modelling job. And every now and then I would get more offers.” He nodded. “And I only got into modelling because someone thought I could earn money that way, and it helped while writing.”
“I wouldn’t mind at all. Cartoons are nice, I think? Animated stories seem like a fun idea.” He was curious and interested. “Let’s try it. And we can hope that we like it.” He nodded, watching her. She seemed nervous, ish.
“I’m really easy to please, you know. Anything is fine.”
***
“Yeah, I’m starting to get that.” She grinned at him while putting the red wine bottle on the tray and opening the fridge for various snacks. She put some cheese, dark chocolate, and popcorn on the tray as well, picking it up with some careful balance. “Do you wanna bring the brownies too?” she asked, nodding to the plate she had set down. Yeah, this would be a good start.
Glancing behind her to make sure Match was following, she went into her living area and placed the tray on the coffee table before taking a seat on the couch. “Here,” she said, handing Match the remote control. “I think Netflix has some good Disney movies on it that we can choose from.” She reached for the bottle of wine and began to open it.
***
“Sure.” He grabbed them, and followed her out to the couch area, and set the tray there next to her tray. He smiled and settled next to her, his leg touching hers, because, well, he liked hanging out with her, but more, he liked being around her.
“Okay.” He turned on the television and activated the Netflix app, and waited for it to warm up and open. He smiled at her, glad he had come here today. She was an interesting person.
“Thanks for inviting me here. I love hanging out with you.”
***
She couldn’t help but smile when she felt him sit down, his leg resting against hers. She hoped she wasn’t reading too much into it, but she didn’t move her leg away. She poured them both a glass of wine, handing one to him and setting the bottle down. “That’s nice to hear,” she said, picking up her own. “Because I like hanging out with you too.” She held up her glass in a sort of toast, her face going to a silly formal look.
“To Netflix and chill,” she said with a sneaky grin, wondering if Match would know what that meant. Her inviting him over wasn’t a sneaky plan to try and get in his pants; it just seemed an appropriate response for the built up tension that seemed to be between them.
She enjoyed her time with him too much to try and waste it on overthinking and she tried to brush the thoughts away. “Anyway, what have we got?” She settled back on the couch and if she just happened to lean against him slightly, that was just the way she seemed to fall back.
***
Match smiled as he took his glass and listened to her response. It brought a bigger grin up to his face, and he felt himself growing more and more sure he was in the right place at the right time. She was amazing, and he felt honestly, like he was ready to take things further.
When she spoke that toast, he grinned wider. “To Netflix and Chill, but only with you.” And he sipped the wine, thinking and answered her question. “Netflix seems to think we want to see anime.”
When she leaned against him, he shifted one arm behind her, looked at her, then leaned over to her, and kissed her. It seemed a good response, after all, to her statement. As long as he hadn’t read it wrong.
He really hoped he hadn’t read it wrong.
***
Rose had opened her mouth to joke that she hoped that it would only be with her when she found his mouth over hers. She responded by kissing him back, lightly at first before adding a bit more pressure. It had been a long time since she had been with someone and it felt nice. Especially with someone like Match.
Rose didn’t know how she knew, but she just felt safe with Match. She didn’t need to worry that he was just trying to get a one night stand out of this or that there was anything more than genuine interest. He wasn’t going to use or abuse her; he felt the same way about her that she did with him.
When she finally pulled back, her eyes were heavily lidded and she smiled. “That was...unexpected.” She reached over to trace a line down his cheek. “But I liked it.” She leaned closer, moving the hand to his chest and gave him another kiss.
“Should we even bother with a movie?” She pulled back, her lips brushing against his.
***
Match smiled. “I’m glad. I liked it too. “ He kissed her again, stroking his hands over her arms and down to her hips, and smiled softly.
“Maybe a movie later. Right now, you are all I want to see.’ And he kissed her again, slow and easy, slowly deepening it into something more passionate, something more intense. He felt safe, strong, and at home with Rose, and he found a part of him uncoiling and slowly unknotting that had been hurting and hiding ever since his last breakup.
And now, slowly, it washed away in the warmth, passion, and calm, of this. He smiled brightly as they parted lips again. “I definitely like this.”
***
Rose felt her heart drop at what he said and smiled as she leaned in to return his kisses, moving her hands around his neck and moving to slide her legs over his so she could be facing him; it was as if her whole body were responding to try and have him closer.
“Mmmm, I think I’m rather fond of it as well.” She grinned, rubbing her nose gently against him before moving in for another kiss. “And maybe...well, a little relieved.” She opened her eyes to look at him, a faint grin on her face.
***
Match smiled softly, and kissed her back, stroking hands along her sides and legs, smiling warmly, and feeling absolutely comfortable. He stole another kiss, lips parting and tongue teasing at her lips and when the kiss parted, his eyes were darker with lust rising in them.
He tugged her toward his lap, grinning.
Her words had him raising an eyebrow, however, and blinking. “Hmmm Relieved? Why so?”
***
Rose couldn’t help but laugh, willingly moving to sit in his lap, her arms still around his neck. She pulled back just a little at his question and smiled. “Relieved that you feel the same way. I thought maybe you did at the beach, but I wasn’t sure.” She said it all in between kisses, feeling herself sort of melt into him. This was nice...had finding interest in a guy always been so easy? So natural? The butterflies that had been growing in her stomach seemed to be easing with each kiss he returned, but a new sensation was growing deep within her.
“You know, I have a telly in my room,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “We could always watch something in there.”
***
“I’ve liked you since the first day we talked.” He grinned at her. Match was a man of passion and warmth and he had decided early on he liked her. He just had not thought she really felt the same.
Kissing her back, gently stroking her arms and her sides, relaxing into this, he felt calm and warm, and absolutely sure of himself. Warmth and arousal slowly filled him, and he nodded as she spoke again.
“I think that would be a very good plan. Where is your room?” And he scooped her up in strong arms, and rose from the couch, grinning.
***
As he picked her up, Rose couldn’t help but giggle as her grip around his neck tightened just a little. No one had ever picked her up like this before and he made her feel as if she weighed as light as a feather. She turned her head and pointed to the bedroom at the end of the hallway.
“You liked me through the network?” she asked, raising her eyebrow. “Or when we first met for dinner?” Looking back at their other hangouts, Rose began to realize that each one did seem to feel like a date. The flirtations and teasings has been light, testing each other to see if the feelings were mutual; it had all lead to tonight.
***
“Yes.” He answered with a smirk, and he carried her toward the bedroom, and in, then gently setting her on the bed. He leaned in to kiss her, before standing up and stepping back.
“From the first I liked you.”
He slowly undressed then, facing her, making it a slow reveal, showing her his body one piece at a time. Until, finally, he was bare before her.
And he bent in to kiss her again, smiling softly.
It was a very, very good night…
