It was another night of drinking for Niklaus. A common occurrence since arriving back home. If it wasn’t his family, it was the dreams. The only way to deal with it all was alcohol. At least he was going to have some company tonight. Lexi had agreed to meet him. Although being seen with another woman would probably lower his chances of getting laid. But that was okay, tonight was not about picking up women.
Klaus scouted out a booth for them, ordering himself a bourbon as he waited for the bubbly, blonde to arrive.
Lexi had been surprised to see Klaus back in town, but then again she shouldn’t have been too surprised since it seemed like if you grew up in Orange County, you came back at some point and at the moment quite a few people appeared to be coming back; especially those from their dream world.
It had been some time since Lexi had seen Klaus so getting together to get drinks had been an excellent idea; one that she’d agreed to right away. She had spent some time getting ready that night, donning a pair of black skinny jeans that were split and laced up the sides and a flowy maroon camisole, her long blond hair loose.
Reaching the bar, she went inside and began searching for Klaus, heading towards the bar first.
Klaus spotted Lexi walking toward the bar. “Lexi,” he called out from the booth not wanting to lose the spot. She looked good, better than he remembered. But then it had been quite a few years.
A normal person might not have heard Klaus call their name, but considering Lexi had superhuman hearing, she was able to pick out his voice easily and turned, smiling at her old friend as she made her way towards the bar, “Klaus Mikaelson. How long has it been?” She was pretty sure the last time she had seen him was sometime in college, but that had been quite a few years ago now; not that she expected he’d changed too much. After all, they were still in their mid twenties. Actually, in Lexi’s case, she was technically still twenty three and she would be for the rest of her life.
“Too long,” he replied with a grin. It had been ten years since Klaus had lived in Orange County. Of course he returned from time to time, for important events in his sibling’s lives. Rebekah’s, Kol’s and Henrik’s graduations. Kol’s wedding, his wife’s funeral, things like that. But he never stayed for long and always did his best to avoid his parents. “You still look as young and gorgeous as ever,” he commented with a smirk.
She returned a smirk, her gaze taking in his appearance, “You don’t look half bad yourself,” She’d always thought Klaus was good looking and the last couple of years had been kind to him; then again, from what she’d seen, it appeared that the Mikaelsons had really good genes in general. “So what had you been up to?” She glanced from Klaus to the bartender, to get his attention.
What had he been up to? It had been awhile. There was a lot to cover. Klaus opted to keep it simple. “Living the New Orleans life,” he said with a shrug. “Taking in all the music, food, culture, and of course art. I owned a gallery there for a bit.” But before she could asked the question he was beginning to despise being asked he kept the conversation going. Switching the subject to her. “And yourself? What have you been up to, love?”
“Went to New Orleans with my ex a few years ago. It was pretty much just like in the movies.” The trip had been part of a cruise they had gone on not too long before Lexi had become a vampire, “We would have stopped by your gallery, but we ran out of time.” They’d only had a few days in New Orleans and hadn’t been able to do everything they had wanted to. “As for me, I’m still working at Disneyland. Should probably look for something new, but it’s actually a pretty good job.” She shrugged and swept her long hair over her shoulder.
“I’m shocked the gallery wasn’t your first stop.” He wasn’t being sarcastic either. While Klaus knew there was a lot to do and see in New Orleans, it was part of why he loved the place so much, he still believed his gallery was the main attraction. Especially to those who knew him. “Ah, still playing princess?”
“Well, part of the trip was for his book signings, so we had limited time.” Lexi pouted slightly before smirking, “I wish we’d had the time though. It would have been nice to see you then.” In response to his question, she nodded, “I am. It’s fun. I mean, it does get exhausting some days, but it’s still fun.” She knew some people didn’t think doing what she did was a real job, but as far as she was concerned it was just as real as any other job and while she might not make a ton of money, it was more than enough for her.
Niklaus wouldn’t want to spend all his day in a theme park. The crowds, the exhausted and whiny children? No thank you. How Lexi did it, he had no idea. “At least you enjoy it,” Klaus commented taking a sip of his drink. “How long have you been there now?”
Considering the heat didn’t really bother Lexi anymore and she could always compel any extremely whiny kids, it wasn’t really a horrible gig, but Klaus didn’t know any of that stuff just yet, so she kept it to herself, “A couple of years. I’ll move on eventually, but right now I’m having fun.” She would have to move on sooner or later, before people started to notice that she wasn’t aging.
“That’s what’s important,” Klaus agreed. New Orleans had been all about fun for him. He enjoyed going out and partying with Marcel. And of course he enjoyed his work at the gallery. If Lexi liked her job as a princess why leave? “Just don’t expect me to ever come visit you at work.”
“Awwww, now you’re not being any fun,” Lexi smirked at him and glanced over for the bartender, “I bet if I bought you some shots, I could get you to agree to come see me sometime.” Truthfully, she could simply compel Klaus to come see her at Disneyland, but she had decided a long time ago that she would never compel her friends unless it was a life or death situation and getting Klaus to an amusement park was definitely not one of those situations.
“Pretty sure they don’t sell shots at Disneyland,” Klaus replied with a smirk. Although he had heard there was alcohol at that California Adventure place, but that wasn’t the point. “We can just get shots when you’re off. Like tonight.”
“Actually, California Adventure sells alcohol.” She smirked at Klaus then told the bartender what kind of shots she wanted and how many. “However, I’m always up for shots when I’m not working.” The shots were set up on the bar and Lexi divided them up between her and Klaus, “I bet I can drink all of these and not even feel tipsy.” Another perk of being a vampire; being able to drink a lot more before getting drunk.
Klaus rose a brow at her comment. “Now that wouldn’t be very gentlemanly of me to take that bet,” he replied with a grin. He highly doubted that Lexi could drink all those and not even get tipsy. He wasn’t about to look like he was taking advantage of a woman, old friend or not.
“I guess we’re just going to have to drink them and find out,” Still smirking, Lexi picked up one of the shots and brought it up close to her lips as she waited for Klaus to do the same, “Next round is on you, by the way.”
