Clary had invited Justin over to paint with her in the studio at college, taking advantage of the quieter campus surroundings to create some work for the upcoming summer exhibition. Sitting next to an easel, she was looking over the chalks, paints and pencils she’d got out from the college and comparing them to her own when Justin came in. “Hey, come on in, how are you?”
Justin hadn’t been on a college campus in a while and while he was sure that there were people there his age, it did feel a little strange to be walking around with other students. There weren’t a lot there since it was the middle of the summer, but he still kept expecting to be asked where he was going to if he knew where something was.
In an attempt to blend in, he simply kept walking towards his destination, which was the art studio. Clary had given him directions and he found it pretty easy to find. Once there, he walked into the room, smiling at the familiar redhead, “I’m good. How’re you?” He set his messanger bag down on a nearby table.
“You found the place ok then?” Clary asked and spun to face him as he came into the room. She tucked her hands between her legs as she watched him come towards her. “I’ve been ok, trying to work and get some pieces finished. Can’t figure out what I want to use though,” she sighed, looking at the paints, chalks and pencils somewhat forlornly.
Justin nodded as he approached her, “Yeah, I found it pretty easily. Kept expecting someone to stop me and ask where I was supposed to be. Had to keep reminding myself that this is college and it’s the summer session. Less of a chance of someone thinking I’m skipping class or something.” He smirked a little. “Do you have a rough idea of what you want to do? That might help you figure it out.”
Clary groaned in frustration and threw her head back as she spun herself completely around on her chair, eventually coming to rest facing him again. “Not a clue. My head is filled with monsters and demons and...stormtroopers and nobody here wants to see that stuff anymore than they have to,” she lamented.
Justin chuckled as he watched Clary spin around in her chair, “You don’t know that for sure. I’m sure there are a lot of people who would want to see Stormtroopers regardless of what has gone on here.” Star Wars was extremely popular and even after an invasion by Star Wars characters, it was still extremely popular, “And I’m sure that you could incorporate monsters and demons and things with other things.”
“Yeah, I guess so,” Clary sighed as she came to a stop on her chair. “I wonder if I could do some kind of...collage of weird shit from the OC,” she tilted her head to the side and considered the blank canvas in front of her for a minute.
With a shake of her head as if to clear her thoughts, she turned back to Justin. “What about you? You got something in mind?”
“That’d be pretty cool. I mean, considering everything that has happened here, I’m sure there’s enough inspiration for pretty much anything artistic.” Justin was surprised that no one had used any of the stuff that had happened to write a book or a movie or something. “I’ve got some ideas. I have a few older pieces I’m gonna use and I’m working on some new stuff too.”
“Sounds good. I have to say I’m looking forward to this! It’s been too long since I’ve worked with anyone,” Clary smiled at him. “How are you otherwise?”
“I’m good. Really good.” Aside from the crazy stuff that happened in the OC, Justin’s life was going pretty well as far as he was concerned. “I mean, I can’t really complain, ya know.” He had a great family, a great boyfriend and friends and a great job.
“Good, I’m glad. Although you realise that takes away from the tortured soul artists are renowned for having,” Clary teased with a little wink. “Maybe you’ll be the cheery artist that changes everyone’s perspectives about artists,” she grinned at him.
